It was cool (60s) and rained once I got on the run course, but I managed to set a 10 minute PR, finishing in 4:51:08. This was my 4th HIM and I finally managed to have a good run. That made all the difference. Congratulations! Good job on the run. The run is the discipline I struggle in the most. |

Master 1641 Seattle, California | Subject: RE: Team 3 - June Challenge I had to skip my run yesterday and might have to skip things again today. My ankle is still quite swollen and bruised. It doesn't feel to bad but I figure I should let it heal up a bit more. If it is feeling good later today I may try and go for a short run. I'm using up all my buffer between my planned training and my goal because of this so I'm going to have to hit all my workouts for the rest of the month to make my goal. Hopefully I can pull it off. |

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: Team 3 - June Challenge Hey Team 3... I hate to say this but I think I'm going to have to withdrawl from this month's challenge. I came down with a nasty cold, turned sinus infection last week and am still struggling to keep moving. Even today, a week later, I'm still fever-y (yes, I'm making up words), have stabbing pains in my eyes and can't breathe in deep. Plus, I think both kids have this too and have been up a lot trying to take care of one's headaches and the other's bloody noses. Fun times for all! I would try to adjust my goals for the rest of the month but don't even know where to start trying to figure out what I can do. I think it's best for all to just withdraw at this point... I will continue to cheer for you all though! |

Yup, it will be my first oly. I'm a little nervous, because I did the sprint last year and there were some seriously aggressive and rude people on the bike course. Men were cursing and screaming at each other--City of Brotherly Love, my a$$. |

Subject: RE: Team 3 - June Challenge gonna get on the trainer tonight. And going to try and resume running tomorrow. Hoping to get back into the pool by Wednesday if this scab will finally fall of...but my shoulder is still sore. Range of motion is getting better by the day, but still maybe only 60%. My first of four OW swim races is next Saturday...1 mile...so hopefully I'm good by then. |

When I woke up this morning I couldn't lift my left arm above my shoulder and I couldn't look left or right without pain. Yay I thought - the pain is still here so I can work with the doctor. She was cool. It appears that two weeks ago when I got bit in the head by a wasp and I swung at him that I screwed up something with my Trapezius muscle in the shoulder/back. Apparently I have quite the strain and knot in that muscle that is causing my neck/shoulder/back pain. It hasn't effected the actual shoulder yet but I am now on muscle relaxers 4x a day, pain meds 3x a day, and some in home PT/stretching for two weeks to see if we can work it out (which works since I will be out of town for work for the two weeks). When I asked her about running she told me if it hurt to do it to NOT do it. For the next few days she doesn't want me doing anything more than the light stretching and heating pads on it. So running is out for a few days. I will try to adjust my run goal for the challenge since it seems I can do some core work and lower body strength and then my bikes on the trainer yet where I can sit up and pedal at least. Could be worse - now to just listen to the doc and no running through the weekend at least. but I need to get better since if I don't fix this now it can get much worse. Dee - Can I adjust my run mileage to account for being out of the run for at least the next few days (Sunday) - then my next run isn't til wed and I can see how I am doing then? Thanks, Stacie Yikes, scary stuff, Stacie! Hope the meds/PT does the trick for you! Thanks Neal - so far the meds/PT is working. It is amazing the progress in just two days on the meds. I am on the muscle relaxers 2x a day - It just seems a lot to take them 3x a day and it is still working. Still some minor pain but nothing compared to what it was on friday. Traveling to AK today and it seems the airports won't be bad after all. I was really worried how they would go with a bad shoulder/pain. Owww! I'm glad you're feeling a bit better with the meds and PT!! Hopefully you'll be back to 100% soon! |

Expert 1163 | Subject: RE: Team 3 - June Challenge Hey team, I just got caught up to the last 2 pages... not sure if I'll read much further back than that. Looks like despite being sick & injured, our team is doing pretty well in terms of our goals. Keep it up! Sorry I've been MIA-- was out of town Friday & Saturday for a 200-mile running relay, which means I've been busy at work last week and this week to make up for not being around on Fri. The race was a ton of fun, even though we lost our team captain due to illness and the race almost got canceled due to storms. But we pulled through and had some of our team members run extra legs to make up for being on (wo)man down, and we hustled at the end to beat the rain to the finish! |
