Fred Doucette - 2010-12-18 7:08 AM Just wondering how everyone is doing? My formal training will start January 1st and I am pretty excited about it. I have still been consistently SBRing, but not so much volume.

Another question? Are the northerners doing the race using a trainer and treadmill or just toughing it outside? I have done both approaches in different years, but have decided to essentially do all my training indoors until March. Maybe the occassional run when it is nice on the weekend afternoon. Curious about other people's approaches.

I had a bit of a hiatus in November due to a vacation (Italy!) and a trip home for my dad's surgery. Running has been just about my only consistency area and I've so far done all outside, even in WI when it was snowing. I am not loving it, but since I live in NYC and we rarely have ice or snow on the roads, the only thing to battle is the biting cold. I feel like I can't run as fast and my legs are always a bit heavy. When it gets really cold I'll use the treadmill. I'm biking exclusively on the trainer right now, computrainer on the weekends in a class and the boring trainer at home. I try to lure myself with the promise of watching Netflix. I hope to ride outside a handful of times this winter. We had a warm front last Jan where I got to do 2-3 consecutive weekends. Fingers crossed!

I signed up for the LA Marathon so I'm moving into a run focused few months. I start IM focus Feb 1. Long season ahead!

Better stay laying off eating at those small-town cafes with me now.
Happy Holidays, K!

I ran outside yesterday and it was an amazing temperature for a run.  The roads were a little slushy, but overall it was a great time.  Hoping to get out there again!!

Does anyone have any experience with the polar rs 300x? I checked the gear reviews section, but it wasn't reviewed there. It seems to have gotten pretty good reviews on Amazon and whatnot, but I thought I would ask around the triathlon crowd. Thanks.

After an early October marathon followed by 4 weeks of sloth I spent most of November and December slowly building base.  January and some of February will be heavier base building.  February nad March will be the timeframe I add in intensity and than April kicks in IM specific training.  I like planning almost as much as I like training .

I will be following the Competitive Plan from Be Iron Fit (worked well for Louisville this year), so training officially starts sometime in February for me.

For now I'm trying to keep some kind of run & bike base, and plan to get back into the pool very very soon (next week in fact - there I committed!) because it's been way to long.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Happy New Year my IM WI friends!  I got to run outside in NE WI yesterday but I think with the wind and weather change today, I will be stuck inside.  I have a feeling 2011 will be a GREAT year for us!!   Hope to share this experience with everyone coming up this year!  Happy Training!

As for running in winter. Weekly snowshoe running sessions on the weekend and at least one weekday night. Love it.

Fred Doucette - 2011-01-01 10:43 AM I got a run outside this am. Was actually pretty nice to be off the treadmill, but running in the dark in the cold winter isn't happening for me this year, so on the weekdays it's back to the treadmill.

Shorts and t-shirt running in January! What a great day for a run! I might need a mentor to get my fat arse back in shape Fred!

I am really looking forward to getting back to Wisconsin. Aside from Musselman 1/2 in Geneva, NY in July (www.musselmantri.com) this is my all time favorite race!

The crowd support in Madison is like no other place in the world!!

If anyone is wondering about current course conditions this weekends heatwave has melted most of the ice on the bike course. Ride on! Wink

I'm most likely not going to taper either. It is a fantastic race that's very family friendly. I look forward to seeing you and your family there. Have you made reservations yet?

I'm just outside of Philadelphia and have been running in the cold. There's a group of us that are pretty dedicated that run every Thursday morning in and around Valley Forge National Park. On the weekends we head down to the city for longer runs in the Fairmount Park area (the venue for the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon). I'll bike on the trainer until it warms up and there's more daylight. Right now most of my running is getting done in the dark before work.

My official training starts in a week but I've been keeping in shape running and swimming a lot over the past 2 months. I actually got more running mileage in December than any other month in 2010. Pretty sure that won't be the case this year though. Really excited to start this 34 week adventure!

Central Illinois here..... Running outside year round but biking on the trainer. Trying to hit at least 3 of each sport/week. Long swim is up to an hour, but only around 8:00-8:15 per 500. Doing 10 mile runs on the weekends and may start some speed work this week. Biking has been tough, not a big fan of indoor training so I'm just getting up to an hour 3 times per week.

I'll be starting the BT free 20 wk. beginner plan in late April to get ready for IMoo. Once the weather breaks I'll need to rally on the bike to catch up. Now if I can only find some hills.

I guess that would make today 7 months and 3 weeks.  Wow, that doesn't seem like a long time when you write it out like that.  I hope everyone's training is going well.  I've been swimming pretty consistently since November.  I've started to ride my bike on trainer again and I'm starting up running this week.  I hope to supplement some x-country skiing too once my daily energy level gets to where it needs to be.  For me it takes a while to get up to the 2-a-day workouts.  My formal plan still doesn't start the end of March so I've got time to build.

I don't know how the rest of you are, but I've got dates picked out to train on the course.  If anyone wants to discuss just let me know:
June 24-26th: Wisconsin Brick Adventure (WIBA)
July 14-16th: On my own
August 19-21st: Madison Open Water Swim (MOWS)

I figure 3 times before the big day should be good to get a feel for the course.  Any thoughts on my schedule or what is everyone else thinking?  Keep that motivation up!

I plan on attending both the  WIBA and MOWS. I would like to make another trip in July but not sure of the dates yet. Have you made any hotel res for those dates yet?
