Veteran 285 Austin | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! Had a nice swim and a very short run this morning. I'm planning to go get fitted for my first official running shoes on Friday. My current shoes I bought on my own and they work okay, but as my runs have gotten over 3 miles I've started to get blisters on the front of my toes. So I've been keeping my runs shorter until Friday - can't wait! |

My tri training is scheduled to begin January 3, woot!! woot!! It is 64 glorious degrees outside today though. Wish I had a bike. That's a long story, but I'm in the market for a new entry level bike this year. Suggestions? I had a Felt before and really liked it. Headed to the gym at 5 to do a boot camp class with a friend, at least it's something! Here's my wish list for this year: Feb 26 - Cowtown 5K/10K Fort Worth, TX April 10 - Lone Star Tri Festival (sprint) Galveston, TX May 30 - Capital of Texas Tri (first Oly ever) Austin, TX June 19 - Lake Pflugerville Tri (sprint) Pflugerville, TX July 10 - Iron Bros Super Sprint Grand Prairie, TX Aug 21 - Kelowna Apple Tri (Oly) Kelowna, BC Canada And if I could dream, I'd like to complete a 1/2 marathon at the end of my season in October. Do you think it's realistic? I am selling my entry level tribike. Felt S22 56 cm. |

Veteran 126 Phoenix | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! So far, my only registered sprint is Tri for the Cure on 03/20/11. My girlfriend wants me to do a 5k with her earlier in the month of March, so we'll see about that. I started using the Couch to Sprint plan available on the Silver plan. It gives you the details of the first 2 weeks, so I'll follow it for that long and then decide if I want to go ahead and buy the membership. The run and bike are in minutes - but the swim is in distance. So, yesterday's workout was a 10 minute run (I made it 12 so I could have 2 minutes of a warm up). And it said you could run 8 and walk 2 - but my thighs, calves and butt would not let me keep running. Cardiovascularly (is that a word) I felt OK - like I could have kept going - but my muscles from my 30 Day Shred workout the day before were on fire. So I ran 5, walked 2, ran 2.5 and ended with a 30 second cool-down walk. Immediately following was a 400m swim, with the goal set by the plan to consecutively swim it, with only brief rests if needed. I finished in 9 minutes...and only slightly had the urge to puke. haha. I think the swim is going to be my favorite. |

Master 1332 Vista, CA | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! Did you get a brisk walk in Yanti? Sounded like a good plan dodging people texting through the airport. As for me, I got on the treadmill in the garage this morning while it poured outside....again. Did some core work in the garage last night.
Oh, and I got a P90X for Xmas. DH heard me talking about it and curious so he got it and the stretch cords. What's the consensus, should I keep it? I already use the stability ball, medicine ball, BOSU, etc. to put myself off balance for all things plank and core. |

I like the lifting workouts but that is it. I can't figure out how to do the 90 plan and run. I don't want to decrease my running endurance and I can't fit in 2 workouts a day. |

Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! Hmmmm...jumping off a cliff doesn't sound like a LOT of fun, even with someone holding my hand. I think i may stick with the idea of 2 olympic distance tri's. I'll shoot for just finishing the 1st and try to better my time on the second. Thanks for your input! I'll search for a good 20 week marathon plan. It will be my first, and my longest run to date is about 16 kilometers....and I'm very, very slow... |

Veteran 287 Pueblo, CO | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! pga_mike - 2010-12-29 7:15 AM What is on the plate for everyone today? I have a trainer spin class in my basement. What WAS on the plate was a 35 minute interval run session and 3000 yards in the pool. Managed 20 minutes - slow - and just 1000 yards in the pool. REALLY feeling down today, so listening to my body and changing my rest day to tomorrow. Long sessions on Friday and Saturday instead. If dry, may try to do bike outside. 50 something here today, so should have gone for a ride, but I spent the time after the swim visiting all the bike shops in Colorado Springs - Colorado Cyclist, Performance, Bike Nashbar, and Bicycle Village. Got invited to a Triathlon clinic at Bicycle Village and some great advise from their chief bike fitter / fellow triathlete. Showed me his new Trek (forget wich one, but 2011 full carbon - top of the line one) - being built up with Shram. Told me he would give me a killer deal on his old scott bike, but it is a 58 cm - bit big. Also kind of talked me into a Celervo S2 - great cross between full Tri and road bike (more road but areo). Now if I could talk him down to $400, we would have a deal (currently on sale for $3k). Also saw a flyer for a tri series I might jump into - Tuesday night Tri. 300 yard swim, 8 mile bike, and 2 mile run - every other tuesday for a month at the COS rec center. Looked fun and may be a way to break up the standard training. |

Since non of the races around here have been set yet - these are basically what I hope to do if the dates all fit.... (and if I can start running soon...) Regina Police Service 1/2mary - April 17th (can register on Jan 1st) - Splash 'Sprint (March?) - Ice Breaker Sprint Tri - May (?) - Spin off Spadina Oly - June (?) - Great White North HIM - July 3rd - Registered - Regina Beach Oly - late July? or - Waskisu - early Aug? - Queen City 1/2 Marathon in Sept I was one of those silly (or crazy) people who jumped off the cliff.... and registered for that HIM after a party with several Ironmen/women who convinced me that I could do it! ..... now... I'm not so sure!! Hand holding may seriously be needed here!!! A question for those of you who ride on a trainer.... what kinds of work outs do you do/suggest? I will definately be doing all of my riding indoors as I am NOT one of those people who will brave the great outdoors of the great white north to ride my bike. |

One of my squirts when tasked to straighten they coat and shoe area thought it would be a good idea to put items in their school bags instead of putting things away properly. Thank heavens for going sledding and a lost glove otherwise it would have been another 10 days before they were found. I also completed another goal for the year today. My goals for this year were not grand and it was important mentaly to complete it. 2011 for is a couple indoor events (Jan-Mar) and the marathon. |

Expert 801 Oklahoma City | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! Hey Manatees - How is everyone starting their New Year? I'm thinking about a 5K race New Years Day @ 9am if it isn't too cold. Hope it isn't! Other than that, I'm a participant with TRI-OKC in our training contest. Prizes for different levels of training attained over the next three months. Having a lot of fun with it. Went swimming today and let me tell you - salt water is so much easier to swim in! I felt as though I were swimming through Jello at the Y today. Wish I lived close to the ocean. I'm thinking I need a foam roller for my sore muscles after running. I don't run that far, but boy does it hurt my legs, back and bum afterwards. Anyone have suggestions for what size to get? |

I know you'll want to scream at me and say I CAN'T, but it's amazing how far a little laziness can go ... literally ... ultimately, you will be able to run farther and faster at this stage of the game your legs, back and bum shouldn't be hurting like that, and rarely at other stages, either. really important, esp. with running, especially as you're building up running [very carefully, as you are, kudos], to run at a 'conversational' pace, and with an exertion level where both in terms of energy and muscle wear you'd be able to go out the next day and do the same run, no problem. [not that you would, but that you could] that said, foamies are great, and by all means get one for working out tight spots now and then. but it shouldn't be a tool that you have to consistently depend on for recovery, or something isn't right. new year's--a bt'er has entrusted me with his (um 20-something-year-old, i think) daughter, who on earth knows why, ha ha, but we are going to rip it up at the michael franti concert, and i will be logging my dancing, thankyouverymuch. maybe a nice easy swim the next day if it's not storming. |
