I plan to go swimming with my tri club this evening. I hope I make it. Just taking another load of stuff to my partners parents garage so we don't have to take it on Friday . Its exciting but stressful as hell !! I so admire all you and your biking and running and stuff - although i suppose that is the point!

Moving on Friday 14th Jan. Give me the weekend to open boxes and then I'll be able to give triathlon a bit more attention.
This is partly why I joined the group. I knew training would go out of the window - any excuse really - but reading what everyone else is doing means i won't leave it too long to get back to it. (that's the plan anyway)

So, thank-you everyone for putting up with my moans while I'm not training - an I look forward to my training moans very soon.

TheGoGoGoes - 2011-01-07 7:38 PM Today was a snow day and a rest day so I was amazingly lazy. I did manage to register for an Oly tri in Paris this summer! It did bring up a training question since it's less than two months after my half marathon. How do people transition from one sport to another? My plan for now is to swim/bike on my current cross training days and maybe drop a shorter run as I get closer to the race and replace it with a bike. Then just jump into the tri plan full force after the HM. Does that sound about right?

Paris!!!  Awesome!!!!

You will have to keep your run fitness up between the two races by continuing your long runs after the half mary.  Don't slack on them!  Beginning now, you should do your bike rides on days when you will not be running.  Don't ride hard.  Just put some miles on your butt and legs.  Go to the pool at least once per week.  After the half mary, start doing harder rides and hitting the pool more often.  Don't forget to taper for both of the races!

Can't wait to hear about Paris!

Thanks! That's what I had in mind, but wasn't sure. I probably won't get outdoor rides for a while, but there are lots of stationary bikes at the gym.

So any advice on getting my toddler on my bike? I've seen those bike trailers and back seats, but don't know much about them. My guys was born August '09 so he'll be just under two by the time it's warm out.

(Oh, and yeah, Paris. I'm wicked spoiled and I love it!)

We have a bike trailer that we use once in awhile.  He loves being in it!  He loves his helmet, too!  Can't say anything about the back seats other than I was terrified to be in one when I was little.  That is a very clear memory!!

Hi gals,

Childcare: I miss the days when my daughter would tolerate the jogging stroller. She's almost 4 and would rather push it than go for a ride. Once I'm in the groove of exercising I will sometimes get a local high schooler to come over to babysit. My son likes to ride his bike along when I run, so I try to take advantage of that. My husband and I have a tough time coordinating schedules, he teaches, and always seems to have hangups at school, so most often gets home at suppertime.

Food: Ah glorious food!! I can't wait to try some of the recipes already posted. I've been listening to a podcast called the Cooking with the Moms. I think their blog is mealmakeovermoms.com. The two women are dieticians, and so far everything I've made from their site is delicious, and very kid friendly.

Workout: I'm going to actually get up tomorrow (Goal 1), and do a little run/walk. I rent a room near where I work, so I essentially have some free hours child free before work should I choose to make use of them. And tomorrow, I'm going to do it!

Owlgirl - Hope your grandmother is doing okay. I'll be thinking of you.

I got on the trainer.  On a side note, we got a lot of snow last night, well, at least a lot for Charlotte, North Carolina.  Who knows when my kids will go back to school?!?!

Yeah, I need to move away from Rochester NY to somewhere it actually snows!  Like Atlanta!

BUSY morning in clinic today- it's 1:50 and I'm just eating my lunch.  I'm planning on strength and maybe a run later today.

First time back on a bike-like-object since the fall. I did half an hour on a stationary bike at the gym. It was harder than I remembered! But a good start to getting ready to get back into all three sports. Later this week I'll brave the pool for the first time since...too long ago.

I'm a pediatric hospitalist (we take care of kids who are admitted to the hospital), but I do a little time in our resident outpatient clinic.  Most of my time is in research- I study the effect of tobacco smoke exposure on hospitalized kids, and the best way to help parents reduce their exposure.

Great job!!!  I figure if I can work up the consistency on the bike and run, then I can add in the swim .

I'm working in the ED tonight, so I got up early to run for 30 minutes.  I keep hoping it will eventually get easier, but there was a lot of mental back-and-forth before I got out of bed ("you know you should do it"..."the bed is so warm"..."you'll feel better after"..."but I'll feel awful during"..."you can watch the news and see if schools are closed"..."I can watch the back of my eyeballs and be blissfully unaware"... and so on).

Bike tomorrow.
