Member 109 Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Donwah, I have a coach. I usally give him my racing schedule and he adjusts my short term and long term racing plan accordingly. I am one of those guys that is better told what to do so I don't have to think about it. I get so mental with the numbers that I don't even use a computer on my bike. I don't want to know how fast (or slow) I am going. sounds crazy, but it works for me (long race or short). I just did an adventure race this past weekend. highly recommend it to anyone that is thinking about it. I am doing Tough Mudder in early December, half marathon in Disney, a local sprint in early April, St. Anthony's end of April, and the IM CDA. 3rd time at IM CDA and certainly hope the new bike course is still fun. |

I'm planning to bring 55 trillion solar pool rings to warm the lake before our swim. Someone corrected my math, and the lake is only 50 square miles. That means I need 50 million solar pool rings to warm that lake up. |

Extreme Veteran 555 Carrollton, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Patrick E - 2011-11-14 3:16 PM I'm using the 30 week IronFit plan. I agree it's a long time to stay focused, but I actually view the first 10 weeks as something of a recovery in preparation for the significantly more difficult 20 weeks that follow. Most of the first ten weeks are actually a step back for me in terms of intensity (e.g. no speedwork) than what I would be doing on my own if I wasn't following a plan. Same here. I've been doing much more while marathon training than the first 6 weeks have on plan. I look at it as structured recovery. |

Yeah, I'm curious about this as well. I'm not doing CDA2012, but definitely thinking about doing it again in 2013. So I'm just kind of lurking around your thread until someone hears something WTC announced the St George run course change months ago. Still the old course on the website for CDA. Extreme Veteran 555 Carrollton, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Welcome Jeremy! I like that a lot of us are using the Be Iron Fit plan. It will be fun to compare notes as we are doing the same workouts each day/week. I'm considering tweaking the plan by moving the long run from Sundays to a weekday, as some of my training partners do an ows each Sun AM before a recovery ride, and I really like that. Since the longest run is 3 hours and the majority of the runs are in the 2-ish hour range, it wouldn't be too hard to fit into a weekday. But I'm not sure exactly which day to put it on... and I'm sure the plan was designed with the LR being on Sun for a reason. Thoughts? |

Still relatively new to tri's, and more importantly, actually following a training plan (only ever followed one for my 1st marathon this past May) and my only thought is, because pretty much all races are on Sunday. |

Most likely it was put there because most people can do the long runs and bike on the week end. I know that I do a long bike on Saturday and a long run on Sunday. I work during the week and it is dark by the time I get home from work. I don't like running at night in the winter because most of the time the snow or water is starting to freeze. |

Expert 939 Tulsa | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread mark.evans - 2011-11-26 3:15 PM Yeah and I personally don't do a long bike and run on the same weekend. I'll do long bike on Saturday and short (8-10) run Sunday. The following week I will do a long run on Saturday and a short easy 2 hour spin Sunday. I personally don't like to go long in both sports on the same weekend just because I think it can cause injury in some people. Besides I don't understand what benefit you get from doing them both the same weekend. That's my $0.02 anyway and that's how I've trained for my past ironman races and have had good success.thedallasceliac - 2011-11-25 1:59 PM Welcome Jeremy! One of my biggest challenges is going to be getting my nutrition in line with my training - splurged a little over Thanksgiving, but now have the house stocked with healthy whole foods. Let the training begin! |

Extreme Veteran 555 Carrollton, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Thanks mark.evans and ballyard for the advice on the training plan. I tinkered with it a bit yesterday, trying to fit the long run on another day, but for now, I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is and see how it goes. I have an awful cold, so today being a rest day is much appreciated! Day 1 out of 210 - here we go! |

Day 1 out of 210 - here we go! for what it's worth, when I trained for my first ironman (IMCDA 2006), i used to do my long rides on Saturday and my long runs on Sunday. I had a coach and I just did what he told me to do. It made for some very long weekends. I did fine that year, but we ended up switching up my training schedule and moved my long runs to Thursday morning and it made a big difference for me physcially and mentally. I know there are some that like to run on tired legs and feel it prepares them for race day. I felt like it beat me up too much. |
