I can't believe my team that was hit with at least 3 players going on IR and another 4 or so who have missed weeks and weeks, backed into the playoffs! It still stinks, but I smell an upset. Either that or I will be completely destroyed

Brady and Hernandez, in a likely shootout with Houston, scare me.

That's why I originally drafted them, then Hernandez screwed it all up!

I would have liked to have gottem more out of Mr. P. Manning last night, but I guess that's what happens when your QB doesn't face much competition.

Damn, Josh. That's some mighty sour grapes you're having.

If you're referring to me, you're wrong. I had a great season and enjoyed it immensely. This week's playoff game didn't go the way I would have liked it to, but half the teams that made the playoffs are in the same boat. And of course I have to say, "at least we made the playoffs!"

Curious how much skill you guys (and gals) think this involves vs. pure luck.  I mean, Mutiny On The Bounty should have been the easy winner, but Peyton Manning has an average night and he loses.  If you could foresee the night coming, would you have picked up another QB off waivers?  Doubtful- who would bench Manning?  Last year I won 2 out of 3 leagues I was in.  This year I was in 2 leagues, and didn't make the playoffs in spite of pretty good drafting.

It's a mix of luck and skill. Based on a lot more than this season, I would opine that skill in pre-draft analysis, drafting and team management matters more over the course of the season, whereas luck becomes more important when you get to single-game-elimination playoffs.

Been doing this for eighteen years, one league continuously and various others sporadically over the years, paid and free leagues. When I started, internet leagues weren't prolific if they existed at all. I didn't even own a PC. For the first three years we faxed our lineups into a service. We did not get the week's results faxed back to us until Wednesday morning. We would have to watch the Sunday 6pm SportsCenter (NFL Primetime) with pencil and paper in hand and try to catch all of our scoring plays.

In the continuous league, I'll bet I've won the regular season division championship ten times and only missed the playoffs three times. However, I've only won the playoff championship three times. In two of those three playoff wins, I wasn't regular season champ. As I posted previously, in the playoffs, in one game, anything can happen.

In that league, thank goodness we have prize money for the regular season champs and for the regular season high scorer, though the bulk of the money goes to the playoff winners. Only three teams in each of two divisions (six total) make the playoffs, and the division champ gets a first-round bye. All four of the teams playing this week outscored the two division champs, who luckily were on byes.

It's the mix of skill and luck that makes this fun.

It was a rough year for my fantasy teams. It wasn't directed just at you, but at all 4 of you who will be joining me on the sidelines.

Personally, I think it is half luck and half skill. For instance AP. He was a big risk/reward guy. If anyone expected him to be on pace for 2000 yds, they were definitely a vikings homer. In a head to head format, luck has everything to do with it IMO. No one in our league was affected, but in my other league my Seahawks' D took down our head and shoulders favorite (through trades/drafting/luck he had RG3/Megatron/Marshall/Green/Forte/Martin/Witten). The guy who beat him isn't terrible, but when the Seahawks score 36 points, it's hard to overcome.

I look forward to next year already and we will have to resurrect this league. It was a very competitive, close league. Those are the best/most frustrating kind.

Better to burn out than to fade away.  After your 170 point week I thought it'd be you and John racing to 200 pts in the final.

I agree it is a combination of skill and luck. Like The Bear, I've played FF since you had to score it by hand, usually using USAToday's stats. The first league I joined I had no idea what FF was, but the guys at work needed players, so I said I'd play. I have 3 brothers ( and a mother who loves sports), so I grew up watching and liking football, so FF turned out to be something I enjoyed. I was in a league that lasted about 15 years. It disbanded this year, which is why I was happy to see this group start up. I won that league numerous times and was only out of the playoffs once. Drafting and waiver wire pick ups involve a level of skill, but luck certainly plays a part. Also, you can't control injuries or playing a team that has a record week. That is luck or the lack thereof. I didn't have the greatest draft this year and I had a lot of injuries. But I won this week because my team performed and my opponent under performed. Can't wait to see how this weekend's games go!

Lol, no just commenting on the question of does this take skill or luck. Obviously, I needed a lot of luck to get this far!

I think its all about skill when I am winning,  and all about luck when I'm losing.   There is a lot of luck even on the football field.    So we have to be lucky to have drafted someone who is lucky on the field even.    I dunno.   AND I HAD LUCK  then traded him.  what does that mean?  silly I had Luck on my side then willingly traded it.   hmmm

So  like Ann Marie  we are plying each other this week right?    Want to bet the sig line thing?     You have to sport the "Gotta hand it to Oriolepwr,  I can learn much from this fantasy football Guru"    On your BT sig line for say 2 weeks.    And I will change mine to a tasteful Homage of your choosing, should you get lucky and beat me.  :-D
