Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I've been telling myself for weeks now that training "officially" begins January 1. Of course, Wednesdays are swim days, and the pool is closed, so "official" training is going to start with a rest day! But, the unofficial training I've been doing is going to make that rest day feel good, not to mention being up late to ring in the New Year. After January 1, it will be good bye beer, see you again June 29! There will be some slippage for sure, but I will give up drinking until after CdA. Helps get to that race weight, and makes it easier to get up early on the weekends to get the miles in. |

I'm sorry to report, but after that New Years party, we just may be out of wine for the entire state. There may be a bottle kicking around in some closet somewhere, but that would be the lucky one that survived. Gave a whole new meaning to the "rest day." Now, January 2, it starts! |

Member 85 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Well..feels awesome being back in the training groove. Just confirmed that I am in fact a sick bastard by knocking out a 6 mile tempo run at 530am and 1 (yeah..1) degree...thats not counting wind chill but at that point does it really matter? Hope the first week of training (assuming you're doing a 24 week plan) is treating you well. Cheers, Brian |

Either way, that is hard core. Our winter here in California has been the exact opposite. Its supposed to be 71 and sunny tomorrow. We haven't had any rain in months, and probably will have water restrictions this summer, but its made for good winter training! |

I will take out my frustrations on my next trainer-fest ride......since riding outside is not remotely possible this time of year. Kudos to the 1 degree run in Chicagoland this morning! You'll do just fine out here in the cool lake temps in June.. hehe |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Yes, I know, its brutal. It was actually kind of warm for my lunch run today. I suspect at some point we will pay for this with a month straight of rain, and I'll be locked on the trainer for hours on end. I saw some discussion on this earlier, but was wondering what everyone is planning for races leading up to CdA? Wildflower is May 3, I am thinking about that. Should be the right amount of time before the big day. Although, a week or two earlier would probably be even better. But, there isn't really another HIM option in California that I'm excited about doing. Oceanside is sold out and the Napa one has gotten some pretty poor reviews. So, thoughts on a May 3 HIM prep? |

If I lived closer, I'd probably do St. George in mid-May..... However, I will likely do a local 70.3 up here in Spokane on May 31st. It's only 4 weeks out from IMCDA, but shouldn't be an issue as long as I treat it like a training day and not a race. I know many folks up our way who have done Boise 70.3 only 2-3 weeks out from IMCDA with no issues as long as they treated it like another training day. We should all be fit enough by end of April through May that a 70.3 should not have any adverse effects....... My 2cents... |

I've been trying to decide between a 70.3 in Oliver and a 180km training ride on the IMCDA bike course (without requiring 2 weekends away from the family). Maybe I can do both if I do Troika instead of Oliver

Member 85 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Will likely be the Triple T half in Kentucky for me. It's a 6 hour drive from Chicago, so while not ideal, the closest geographically and race schedule-wise. Crazy hilly and technical bike segment. I'm only 50% I'll do it however. Last year I planned on it prior to IMCDA but a ankle injury kept me out of it. Still had a pretty good 1st IMCDA w/o any races leading up to it. |

Ditto for me on Troika. The timing is good, it's within driving distance and I can head over to CdA the next day and at least drive the bike course. |

For those looking to do Troika 70.3 in May, the website is not operational yet. However, if you follow this link... www.troikatriathlon.mycustomevent.com then you can register at the early season pricing. It saves about $50. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread My kids went back to school today, and this was the first more substantive weekend of CdA training. That meant we all had to be up a little earlier this morning. Need to remember to start going to bed earlier. Increased training, increased need for sleep! Where's the coffee! |

Member 85 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm with you here. Have been getting out of bed at 415 to try to knock out my core daily workout prior to the toddler getting up...but trying to do this on 6 hours of sleep. Hate to do it (it eats into my xbox/general f around time) but I need to force myself to turn everything off so I can get at least 6.5-7 hours of sleep a night. |

263 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread First official week since my plan starts on a Monday. I have not been swimming since Boulder 70.3. I'm surprised that it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm actually faster now then I was at the start of last season. I still have a lot of work to get to where I was at my peak last season. |

I'm really putting a focus on that though, because I wear out pretty quickly if I only get 6 hours in a night for too many nights in a row. It's so important for recovery and letting our bodies rebuild, but it's also the first thing to go out the window when we're short on time. |

Member 85 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Well decided on a 70.3 to do, found it this AM and registered on the spot. It's the "Toughman" half in Richmond, IN. It's a nice 3.5 hours from Chicago. Pretty jacked about this and this timing is perfect, just shy of a full month out from IMCDA. Out of curiosity is there anyone else from the BT group that is in the midwest? |
