Hope everyone is doing well! Run in the a.m. and swim in the p.m. tomorrow. Catch you all tomorrow. --Jim Nice! 90 minute trainer ride can be tough (not for me, I love my trainer because I am a SUPER dork!). Hope it wasn't too painful for you. Enjoy that run and swim. Just for the record, Sal makes me do the sports in order... so if I had a swim and run on my schedule, I'd have to I'm watching you...sometimes very closely... |

So we are fixin' ta send some rain y'alls way. The fixin' ta and y'all was for Mila so she would feel comfortable with my communications. I done fixed that there for ya . Thank you so much. I appreciate yer clear communications on teh intrawebz and like that. Fortunately since I am originally from the DC area, not only can I speak several dialects of Georgian (redneck, Atlanta princess, "what do you mean I have an accent?" and such), but also I can speak Marylander, too: "Yewww got that, hon? Now go put your sweaty spin clothes in the warsher". Sounds like a great workout, Cash. How was the HR during spin class? |

Why is it that the female spin instructors are so cute? Is that a job requirement? It can't be for the men, although I have only seen one male instructor. |

Your aerobic base thanks you for that. Now as far as that spin instructor thing goes... hmmmmm... oh wait... yes, yes of course, that is a job requirement. They are all smokin' .

Pro 4216 Sous Mon Diadème | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed Good morning, Campers! Today's possible unplanned rest day is brought to you by the letters A and B (holiday parties at school for the eldest two) and by the number eleventy billion (the number of squat and step up repetitions I did yesterday... ouch). If I can swing it, however, I have a swim and run on the schedule.

COULD'VE gotten a spin workout in this morning, but opted to do work this morning just to be a little more prepared for today's meeting and test...my priorities are all wrong...(don't hate me for it )... |

I'll give you a quarter if you can successfully do this on your first try ! I fell out of my chair just loading the video; I think I'll pass on that drill. Looks like a good way to cause some drywall damage. :-) |

I don't seem to be able to swim more than a 100 without a rest, and even on my best days, I can't swim more than one or two 100's without a lengthy break (like 60 seconds) between them. Any suggestions? Should I keep going despite being completely out of breath (can't do bilateral breathing, one-sided breathing feels like it's not enough, and when I stop I can barely talk)? Or am I better off to keep taking frequent rests? amy, are you a performace member (or want to be one)? did you see this article |

Any suggestions? Should I keep going despite being completely out of breath (can't do bilateral breathing, one-sided breathing feels like it's not enough, and when I stop I can barely talk)? Or am I better off to keep taking frequent rests? I still have some days where swimming more than a hundred meters at a time is tough... however I want to commend you because you really are approaching it the right way by doing the drills and ladders and listening to your body. Also, slow and steady... not sure if your pace for today's swim includes your rest times or not so not sure what your actual swim pace was but I know that part of my problem with swim endurance when I first started out was that I seriously just wanted to get to the heck to the other side of the pool. Period. Therefore, I would start out way faster than I should have. I had to teach myself to really, really slow down and keep my HR and breathing in check. And yes, usually I do wear my HRM in the pool. I'm with Kara and Adam on this... if you could find a swim coach that was available even for just a couple of lessons to check your form and give you some specific feedback you might gain some confidence and have some concrete suggestions on how to improve. Edited because apparently I can't lurn me who too spellz. Yes, my pace includes rest times. I'm swimming 50 yards in about 50-60 seconds, and 100 yards in about 2 minutes. I'll have to use the pull buoys..its literally been years since the last time I used those. I've just been extra cautious so I don't end up irritating my rotator cuff, but maybe my body position is contributing to that, too. I've been going to master's, with a coach, but this week he actually got in the water with us for part of the workout (the part I started struggling with, of course, LOL). There are a few other masters clubs in my area (some cheaper than the one I've gone to), so I might try that or ask someone at the local tri club for a referral. I know they do a swim clinic in the spring, complete with video taping. I plan on being there for that. |

Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed I can't watch the video! darn macs! I confess that I had all intentions of running last night, but thought I'd get in some last minute shopping (before the run) which consisted of going to 2 malls and power-walking around aimlessly buying nothing... then meeting my friend for drinks. woopsie. I don't feel too terribly guilty since I actually thought about going to the gym, with a buz. That's gotta count for something, right? |

I've just been extra cautious so I don't end up irritating my rotator cuff, but maybe my body position is contributing to that, too. 1:40 to 2:00 minutes/100 is a good pace... I'm still wondering if backing off the pace and just focusing on form might help you build up your endurance to take you beyond the 100 at a time mark. I've been going to master's, with a coach, but this week he actually got in the water with us for part of the workout (the part I started struggling with, of course, LOL). I know they do a swim clinic in the spring, complete with video taping. I plan on being there for that. Great idea! I am currently trying to sucker someone into videotaping me... Masters is great but if the coach isn't able to really give you the individual feedback you need right now I'd look for an alternate group or a different coach for a couple lessons or, if you like the current masters coach in general (him swimming instead of coaching last time aside) and feel comfortable with his style, you could see if he can give you a couple of private lessons. I am a guy, so I am kinda slow on picking up on things like that. You did just fine on those zones ... but next time I know you'll spend more time in Z2. It takes some adjusting to so seriously, good effort all around! The number six thing is a reference to a Monty Python sketch (The Bruces, to be exact) in which they say "there is no number six"... dunno, it just sort of stuck and now it's a milaism, much like "the crack of stupid" and "all up in my milk". Yes, the Exhibits are my children. They are the cutest small humans on earth. It's really unfair to the other kids in the neighborhood . Exhibit B is the middle child, so of course he gets much less mention than the other two. Joking, joking... you must not have been reading my blog when Exhibit B recently broke his finger playing basketball. I blamed the coach and thought of suing him. However, since the coach and I have a joint bank account I thought better of it . Any other questions?

I guess you are all out training. I can hardly wait to check everyone's blog to see that. Swimming tip: to improve your speed dramatically, go swim in a 25 yard pool instead of a 25 meter pool . I had a really good (for me) swim today despite not feeling 100%. My joints, which sometimes feel that I am insane, were not overly cooperative today so instead of a 30 minute run on the treadmill I hit the elliptical and powered through. What did everyone else do?
