Gabe - this will be my first Boston and my first full marathon. My wife works at a local school for children with developmental disabilities and they had 4 charity numbers. I had to complete an application and commit to raising at least $7,500. It's a great cause and the school does a lot of positive things in our community, so I'm happy to be helping them and also checking Boston off my bucket list! The weekend after the marathon I'm playing in an NHL Alumni hockey tournament where every team gets to draft an ex-Boston Bruin onto their team, and then the weekend after that is my 40th birthday. So April is shaping up to be quite a month!

Dave, you and your wife rock for doing what you do and I'm so glad to hear that you got that Boston slot for your 1st marathon, very well deserved!

April totally sounds like an awesome month for you!  It will also be an interesting month for me since I will be "surviving", more than "racing" the Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara desert

Gabe that's pretty amazing, how do you train for something like that?

After I finish IMAZ in one week I need to research more about training for the MDS.  Some friends did it this year and shared with me not only their horror stories, but also their training plan and I can only say that my wife is not going to be happy with me

Had a great ride Saturday morning. We did a group ride on Zwift where we had three groups go off at different times. A, B and C ranked by groups of w/kg. Lowest w/kg group went first. 4 minutes later the Bs went and then about 3 minutes later the As went. Goal was for each group to catch group(s) ahead. We called it cat and mouse. Basically an all out 40 to 45 minute ride.

After the ride I somehow twisted in the wrong direction and tweaked my back. Spent all day yesterday on the couch and no workout yesterday or today. Hoping to be back on bike by Wednesday.

I don't recall who was looking for a wetsuit, but a couple of us replied recommending De Soto. Anyway, here is a link to a slowtwitch posting that includes a coupon code. The Black Pearl wetsuit is the same one I have and 40% off is a great price (wish I had found it at that discount).

Adding in a run at MAF yesterday 55:17 and 40 minutes on the drainer today. I lost the weekend with and annual father/son Duck and Pheasant hunt. There was a lot of walking, but nothing that counts and the time with my son was worth it.

Jim, nothing lost, that sounds like some good quality time with your son!

Yesterday off, met with the newly elected president of Guatemala, really nice guy and we are positive about the new prospects for our country with him in office.

Today 55 min drainer and tomorrow morning I head out for Arizona

I took Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off to allow my bake to heal a bit. Wednesday I doubled and did two rides. Thursday and Friday rides in the AM.

I'm sitting just shy of 4,000 miles for the year on the bike with 1.5 months to go. I need to finish this month off strong and keep the momentum going through December.

Hola from Arizona, all checked in and ready for tomorrow. Did a practice swim today and it was 63F, probably warm for Jim and others up north, but cold for this Guatemalan.
Great race atmosphere here in Tempe and will let you know hownit goes. Cheers!

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
