Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Stitches out today, so swimming can resume tomorrow. Was hoping for a couple hours on the bike today, but rain will likely prevent that. Not sure I can bring myself to get on the trainer, packing for a week's vacation that starts tomorrow. Will take the bike and running shoes for some great trail runs and long hilly bike rides. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Need some help. I feel like I am in a complete funk. Almost like being depressed. Tired alot. No Motivation to workoout. Been a very busy summer at work and home. Injury knocked me out of my rhythm. Can't get out of bed for the life of me early to work out. Not sure how to get back in the groove? Anyone ever experienced this before. Any tricks? Thoughts? |

Not sure how to get back in the groove? Anyone ever experienced this before. Any tricks? Thoughts? Been there Mitch. Pretty much all of last season. It took me looking at my fat gut (I gained about 20 lbs) in the mirror to get me back in the pool and out on the road. What motivated you in the past? Maybe look for that again. Tried finding a race that you can volunteer at? How about watching some of the clips from previous Ironman races to see some of the tremendous stories of the age groupers getting out there and overcoming huge obstacles. Got any groups close by that you could make a couple of commitments with to get up and train? Sign up for an expensive race? If any of these work let us know. |

These are all excellent points. if it were me I would get a book written by someone who made running or biking a part of their lives and loves the adventure every long run or ride brings. Dean Karnazes, Pat Farmer, Lisa Tamati - these are the ones I read recently. Nothing about speed or technique, just pure fun of doing it. Hope your blues doesn't last long Mitch. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mitch - Here are a couple of thoughts:1. Sign up for a race so you have an immediate goal.2. Buy some new gear- you will either be motivated to use it or ashamed that you didn't.3. Watch countless hours of motivational videos on YouTube.4. Now that running has been dialed backed, focus on the pool. Find a coach or a masters swim to keep the focus.5. It may be cliche, but HTFU (this is a tri forum so someone had to say it). ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mitch, just go out there. If you don't have motivation in the morning, then do it later but do it. The first few times you will feel out of place but in a while you will be enthusiastic again. Do workouts in social settings like a local group ride, not only you will do the workouts but you will relax from work and make new friends. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got out for 38 miles with the group tonight, nice easy ride with two 3 mile sprints near the end. Then got a flat tire on the way home from the bike shop.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Mitch, hang in there buddy, you were doing awesome and had shown great improvement in your race times and training endurance in a short period of time. So there is no reason why you cannot be at that level again soon. Just a matter of getting out there again and not loosing the faith! Today a 55 min run and 55 min drainer workout Andy S 13/ B 9/ R 12 Rest 6 Total 34 Time 27:05:28 |

+1 Mitch I just get out there. Sometimes I only make it 15 minutes but I did something and then other times I end up feeling a lot better. I look at it as a challenge. Me against whatever it is that has me un-motivated. Eventually I will beat it! |

Those may not be your best workouts, but after you have done them you will feel better. There is a funk that come with injury. It comes from that same place that makes you go why am I doing this during a long ride or race that makes it easy to quit. Its those same little demons that make you say its easier to go home and watch the tigers or State game ( oh sorry you went to the other school |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for all the comments above. Think it comes down to simplifying my goals for a bit (might be trying to bite off too much at any single time) and a big dose of HTFU (Thanks Joe!). I did manage to get my second run of my stress fracture rehab plan in late last night (5 walk, 5 run, 5 walk, 5 run, 5 walk, 5 run). Was on the treadmill and the running was slow. Still running per a MAF HR. Watched Foo Fighters Live at Wembley Stadium so I had that going for me. Plan to get to the pool to swim at lunch. Bit concerned that my tendon is a bit sore. Doc wants me to call him after a couple weeks of gradual running. Will have to really focus on PT for the tendon and trend in how its feeling. That might be part of my funk - no running for at least 7 weeks and still have soreness in the ankle. As pointed out above - there is swimming and cycling to focus on but hope I can get back to running regularly and for longer distances. Thanks again Team! Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got two shorty runs between yesterday and this morning. Hectic week... Tomorrow I'll be doing a metric century in a course that is hellaciously hilly, incredibly hot too. High tomorrow will be 106 degrees and not a shade. Looking forward to the pain! hehe. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got out for a ride this morning with my kids, the little troopers rode a little over 14 miles all over town, to their Tennis and Baseball practices then to the park for a picnic lunch. Then I was able to get over to the Y for a quick swim. Now I'm off to the top of the roof to install a digital antenna so we can get some actual tv channels and hopefully some Olympics!

Glad to see another Foos fan...I've started my toddler early - she knows Dave plays guitar and Taylr plays drums. Even working on air guitar and air drums. Their latest album, Wasting Light, is awesome from start to finish. Tendon feels better today...might just be it taking time getting used to running. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok group, can anyone tell me what causes one person to sweat more than another? Or why some days I have a river of sweat pouring off me? Today, for example, it was cooler out (70 at the end of my run) and humidity wasn't too bad. I did 10 miles at close to MAF and I looked like I had just jumped in a pool. I was alarmed and a little freaked out at how much I had sweat. Anyone have any insight? |
