So what you need to do it get your Ironsherpa to wait in line for you so you don't have to (Dont tell glazebal I said that, he might make me do it!!) They list "Official Ironman Store" starting tomorrow. So do I need to tempt fate and go tomorrow or do they have "finisher" stuff on Monday only" |

Yeah, you might confuse the line for the next year registration line from what I saw last year. |

I'm pretty sure finisher stuff is Monday only-you can buy LP IM stuff before then, but on Monday they have "finisher 2011" stuff out. But FYI, we did get a hat and shirt at the finish line last year that said 2010 finisher. |

Can't imagine it not being wetsuit legal. Definitely cool enough IMO. Biked a little bit of course...roads are rough and bumpy, at least on the shoulders. Its going to be a painful ride for me. Oh well. Glad you made it to race!! I seriously need my wetsuit folks (I know, I know I shouldn't be doing this race if I can't swim great but I feel so insecure without it) fingers crossed OK, more "Calming influenece posts from Fred".... (deep thoughts from Jack Handy??) 1. LP has always been wetsuit legal. Last year my wife watched the whole swim and she said there were a number of people who quit anywhere from 100-300 yards into the race and grabbed onto rescue boats etc and DNF'd. That was with wetsuits, so I really doubt the WTC (which is a business trying to sell you folks stuff AND make you happy ) has a vested interest in making it non-wetsuit legal. If it is non-wetsuit legal it will be because it is so hot that a wetsuit would be dangerous for health reasons. I am quite sure about this. Lastly I think Melissa's guess of 2-3% DNS without wetsuits is actually accurate, but truthfully Kate *I* know you can do it regardless. Lastly this board (LP thread) always starts to get antsy about now with worries like this. Stay calm, relax. ENJOY!! THANKS Fred!!!!! Yes I'll be wearing the suit.... I ain't eligible for no award or no Kona slot so I should be able to wear it. I know it is apparent that I'm freaking and I am ... thanks for talking me off the ledge |

Regular 118 Grand Rapids | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Swam a lap of the swim course today in long sleeve wetsuit. Water felt nice, not as warm as I thought it would be. First time swimming with the cable, loved it. I know it will not be easy to use it during the race though. |

It is my go to race report ... I plan to try to copy everything you did and keep your attitude throughout (I don't swim nearly as fast though) Kate Hi Kate!! It's good to hear my IMLP RR was helpful to someone. =) I tried to put a lot of thought into it, especially for a first-timer. Good luck with your race! I will be hanging out at the Yellow/Green peoples tent this week. It's Broome County Triathlon Club and we should be on Mirror Lake Drive during the race to cheer you all on and hang out. I'll try to sport my BT tri suit when I am swimming, though, so feel free to say "Witty!" or "Sara!" if you see me! =) |

Veteran 274 State College, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Safely made it to Lake Placid today. Currently sitting in my hotel room.
Only one small problem, turns out the change I made to my reservation never made it into the system and they still had me checking in tomorrow. Took care of, not a big deal. However there is a very large problem. The Cable TV doesn't get Versus.... how am I supposed to watch the tour now????!!!!!! |

Champion 6656 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread I packed up my bike in its box yesterday and will be flying from Vancouver to Montreal red eye and driving down to LP in the morning. Now I just have to get the box out of the basement...up a flight of stairs and into my SUV...I think I can manage it by myself...having my BF in the same country as me would help a lot in moments like this! That's what guys are for right? Carrying the heavy stuff? All my gear has been checked and double checked to make sure I am not missing anything! |

Yeah, you might confuse the line for the next year registration line from what I saw last year. That's exactly what we did last year - got in the line for shopping rather than signing up. After standing in line for awhile it was a bummer to go to another line and start at the back again. We arrived at LP late yesterday afternoon. Before we left, I said to my husband we are going to be different people when we return. We will be an Ironman! The week before we left, I was feeling a little like I did before we sent our kids off to college. Did we do all we could to prepare them to be safe and successful out on their own? You start to worry about it and realize that whatever you did, the time for that is now done, and now on to the next stage, come what may. A few things we've learned at LP. If you go grocery shopping at Price Chopper, get an Advantage card right away. It will discount some prices and also get a reduction in gas at their station. The swim was comfortable in a wetsuit. There are so many nice and friendly people around here, it is fun just to get out and talk to others. Looking forward to finally meeting all of you. Edited by ckunst 2011-07-20 2:14 PM |

Extreme Veteran 444 North Brunswick, NJ | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread The nervous energy has begun. Pacing around the house and starting to pack. 8 months of prep and THE weekend is around of corner. Crazy psyched!! Reading the information guide one last time before heading up to LP tomorrow. Is Friday's "Mandatory Athlete Race Briefing" @ 7:30 really mandatory??? If so, are family allowed or racers only? |

Veteran 867 Vicksburg | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Well I am in New York now. We flew into Albany and are staying at Lake George tonight. My little man (3 year old) has gotten sick so it wasn't fun flying with him coughing up a storm. He did alright all things considering though. He has asthma problems and they seem to show up every time we take a trip. He got a shot yesterday before we left so hopefully he will recover soon. We will be rolling into town Placid tomorrow afternoon. Is anyone else staying at the Crowne Plaza? |

Champion 11989 Philly 'burbs | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread I'm doing the OCD packing right now, reviewing all my lists and my list of lists. My gym bag is in my wife's car and she dropping her daughter off at her mom's and it's making me crazy not having that hear to inventory and pack. I imagine that there will be a few times on Sunday when I will just sort of sit back and take it all in and remind myself that I'm doing a freaking Ironman. I mean really, how cool is this?! |

Just dropped my pup off at doggy daycare and put the finishing touches on packing to head up in the morning. It will be nice to leave the 100 degree weather here for some cooler temps this weekend. I hope I have an opportunity to meet most of you over the course of the trip. I've really enjoyed this group! Safe travels. Ryan |

Champion 6656 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread SO I've been delayed leaving Vancouver and I got here over 4hrs too early for my switched flight....I whined a little bit about being so early because I came early for my original flight to make sure my bike was dealt with effectively....so they waved the fees for my bike. I guess I can't really complain. Free bike transport?? Booooyaaaaaaahhhhhh Haha. Is it weird that that makes it okay I am here so early? Luckily I have my computer to keep me occupied! |
