Ellie and I both had a great race and an absolute blast! We missed the lofty goals we had set for ourselves, but I think I had a nearly perfect race. I finished in 11:01:28 and Ellie was 11:14:53. For those that knew Ellie was trying for the $2,000 prize package for the fastest age group female swim split I am sad to say she didn't win despite a blistering 51:18 split, she ended up second... again. I am back home now and went ahead and wrote up a race report/novel if anyone is bored, I hope to peruse all your reports over the next few weeks. Congrats again and it was fun meeting everyone! -Jeremy |

Master 2210 Columbus, Ohio Coaching member | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Did anyone hear about the outcome for the guy who had a bad crash (head injuries) on the bike course? My husband (David tri's) stopped on the bike course and stayed with him for several minutes trying to get help and waiting for the medics. I know he would like to know if the guy is OK. All he knows is his name was David. |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread First of all. I am saddened to hear about the death of the triathlete from NY. Secondly, I hadn't heard about the bike crash, though I did see a guy walking the marathon in a sling. Finally, on a more positive note, if the file isn't too big, there is a photo of my very recently acquired tattoo attached in this work document. If it doesn't work, I'll have to try again tomorrow. Must get to bed. Peace. |

22 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I saw the guy that crashed on the bike. He was on the first downhill of the out and back section. The medics had gotten to him when I saw him but had not put him on the cart just yet. @TriSam...I saw two guys walking the course in shoulder / arm slings. I talked to one of those gentlemen. He said he crashed while training a couple of weeks ago. I was amazed that he was able to swim and ride all those hills in with his shoulder in that condition. Congrats to all who participated and finished yesterday! I look forward to reading your race reports.

Elite 3371 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Wow. Really tough day out there for me. I was fried after 40 miles on the bike. Almost threw in the towel at T2. Did the truffle shuffle for 5.5 hours and eventually crossed. Disappointed with the time, but really happy I pulled through and finished. Congrats to all! Sounds like some really great results! |

I'm back in NJ .... happy to find my basement is already dry (thanks to my dog sitter) , my power restored (one of the lucky few in my township), and all the fallen tree branches far from my roof. Jillian.... awesome to see you on stage .... and it looks like you had a great day on the course as well! Sorry we didn't officially meet you all but I'm sure we crossed paths out on the course. Congrats to everyone! Its now time to shift focus back to running.... NYC Marathon in a few months! Erica |

Veteran 300 Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Well my IMKY ended at mile 16 of the run. Little depressed today and starting to doubt myself for stopping. I was having a nice bike but my stomach was unhappy by mile 40. Drinking my nutrition or water just made it worse so I'm sure that kept me from drinking as much as I should have. At around 106 I stopped on the side of the road because of some dry heaves. I waited a little and tried to move on. I made it past the aid station, maybe half a mile, and had to stop again. This time when I got off my bike my hamstring seized up and while I laid on my back I started to hyper ventilate. EMS was called by a nice police man. I got my vitals read and some oxygen. My body was shaking oddly while I sat on the tailgate, very odd feeling They said standing may help, it did I think I sucked down 7 shot blocks and some water while I talked with them for a bit. I got back on my bike and rode the last 6 miles fine. I ran through transition, stopped to talk with my family, then headed off on the run. I get an odd sharp pain when I breath, just below my sternum, when I get off the bike and try and run so that seemed to limit me to short shuffles and walking. No problem I had plenty of time. I was having fun, I saw LisaC, Ashleigh, and some other BTers out there. I got to a water stop at 16 when things went south. My right calf cramped violently, I rolled to my back and I'm sure I howled like a dog. Then my left calf violently cramped. The volunteers were awesome they pushed on my toes and then started to massage my calves. I was on my back for a few minutes while each calf cramped on and off, OMG that hurts They stood me up to keep them from cramping and I got very lightheaded and passed out. I woke up on my back by the curb in some grass and asked if I passed out. I apologized. My calves started at it again, this one volunteer was awesome he let me push my toes against his chest while he massaged my calves while I breathed out obscenities, OMG that really hurts. I was finally able to sit up and they gave me water, a banana, some perform, and some broth. I was having some chills while I sat there. I hate being cold Then back to both calves violently cramping. They stood me up again to get my calves to stop and massaged them with ice. After they gave me more pretzels and wanted me to walk in the direction I need to go. Not sure how far I got, I passed out on them again. They walked me over to a chair and sat me down. At this point there was discussion of me getting picked up. I wanted my calves to stop and I didn't want to be another mile down the road and do it again with no one around. I had one extra hour but I was not sure how long I had been delayed. I wasn't sure if anything I ate would have kicked in enough to get me on my way.....argggggggg! Doubts.... |

Passing out twice was likely a sign; I think you did the right thing. Still bummed for you though. |

Regular 93 Minneapolis, MN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread 14:15:37 I have never, ever suffered that much both mentally and physically. It was 100% worth it. My hip began to hurt at mile 20 on the bike but I fought my heart out. Reaching that finish line and hearing Mike Reilly say "Noah Fessler, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!!!" was the best emotional experience I have ever had. My body feels like it's been hit by a Mack truck but I'm wearing the biggest smile. |

Expert 1128 Fort Riley, Kansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread 4:17:00 here, had a really rough day out there! After grinding it out the first few hills (my first time EVER going up hills) I realized that wasn't going to work for 112 miles. I watched the other competitors climbs hills, what they did with their gearing, and gave myself a crash course in hill climbing during the race. 40 miles into the bike course, I started getting excruciating IT band pain from climbing the hills, a few times I had tears in my eyes because of the pain, and the pain lasted the rest of the bike course. My legs were so toasted from the bike I walked most of the marathon. I was so happy to see that finish line, and crossing it was an incredible experience. As if being up on stage wasn't embarrassing enough, I saw the pic up on ironmanlive.com Nice tat Sam, I got my M-Dot tattoo today, I know, pretty boring, not original, but it means a lot to me, and it's what I wanted. Congrats to everyone on finishing! It was awesome meeting a lot of you over the weekend! |

Veteran 163 Newburgh, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread It was so cool meeting so many of you at Starbucks. That was one of the highlights of my weekend. 14:25:13 finish for me. My first IM and very pleased. Had a swim of 1:12, bike of 6:35 (16.98 avg) and run (walk) of 6:22ish. Nausea plagued me all day and I definitely had legs under me to run the majority of the mary but the stomach was having no part of it. I was one of those poor saps out there vomiting on the run course. I walked 75% of the mary to help keep the nausea at bay. Couldn't even hold down water. I was close enough to the finish I knew I'd make it home and I did!!! Yeehah, Ran the last half mile while my 18 year old son ran along the sidewalk with me. WOW!!! What a great experience. No disappointments here at all. One of these day I'll find a nutrition hydration strategy that yields consistent results. I'm just not there yet. Either way, I am an IRONMAN baby! I didn't let myself cry all weekend but as soon as they handed me that finishers cap I broke down. Like many of you, I dreamed of making it across that finish line and putting that cap on my head for an entire year. FYI, I went to medical right after they took my picture as I was going downhill fast. Barely made the one block walk there. They got an IV in me after three tries and administered some anti-nausea medication and 30 minutes later I was a new man! There must have been 100 cots in there and most of them were full. Many suffering the same symptoms.... Congrats to all......YOU ARE AN IRONMAN! |

Extreme Veteran 683 Cleveland Area | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread 15:40:23 here and I don't know if anyone could have had a bigger smile than the one I had. I was able to run up to about mile 3, yea it sucked, legs were tightening, not cramping but very tight. I tried some run/walk for the first lap but by mile 8ish, the turn around, my feet had pruned from being soaked by the water I was pouring all over me and had developed blisters down the middle of the ball of my foot. By the time I got to special needs the damage was done, my dry socks didn't really help. I can post pics if anyones interested
Going that close to the finish line and having to start the second lap knowing I had to walk the rest of the way was just cruel but I accepted my fate. I was able to keep a 4 mile/ hour pace walking, passing many along the way. I wouldn't let myself slow down because I knew that would end me!
I was wearing an NF Endurance tri top and cycling jersey, bright yellow, if some of you saw me. An athlete finishing spotted me on my first lap and stopped me to thank me, he had NF (nuero fibromitosis) what an inspiration to me, it kept me going.
Big thanks to Davidtris and DLaw (david and Dan) seeing you guys on the run course and exchanging pleasantries helped alot, you guys really made me feel welcome with the little time we spent together, thanks! Post Davids underpants run picture, its worth seeing again. Congrats to all and thank you to everyone throughout this long journey, race report to come tomorrow, need something to do at work
