Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() TriAya - 2013-03-04 2:19 PM riorio - 2013-03-05 5:41 AM Happy Monday guys! This is my last week before Spring break (2 weeks off)! I went back to the dermatologist today because I was not happy with how my foot was healing. I can still only wear a couple of pairs of shoes and it hurts a lot. They were not real happy with it either and gave me some cream for it that might speed up the healing process (why didn't they give me that 5 weeks ago??). I am so sick of my foot hurting, and sick of wearing ugly shoes! I know it's not a major injury but it has become a real nuisance Grrrrrrrr I really hope it gets better soon ... I know what it's like to be held back from being as active as you are! Amusingly enough, I just had breakfast with an ER doc here in Taupo who's on BT (leftrunner) ... he's awesome! I'm healing up well myself ... and already looking forward toward the next race ...
I love how you are always plotting your next adventure! |

That falls right into when I'd like to do a second HIM this year and would also fall under my race-cation preferences. Arend - never done a European race, but we are a big fan of the race-cation and usually try to one a year or so with all of tri friends. We almost bagged IMLP for IM Switzerland this year which is on the same date, but our group of friends that we race and travel with opted out of IM this year. Very interested to hear what others have experienced as well, because if we do another IM anytime in the near future it will probably be France, Austria, Switzerland, or UK just based on timing. Sort of leaning toward the (non-WTC) Alpe D'huez Long Course Triathlon for next year as part of a longer trip to France that would include watching a couple of TDF mountain stages, but we are in the very early stages of considering it. Gotta get through IMLP one more time first... I love France! That sounds like a fantastic race-cation. |

The friend of mine who did Austria last year stayed over a couple of weeks to watch the first few stages of the tour. They got to see the early ITT stage which I think is cool because you actually get to see riders pass by for almost 2 hours...instead of having a 3 second blow by and you're done. |

![]() | ![]() Anyone run with a cell phone and if so how do you carry it if it is one of those stupid big ones (mine is a razor maxx so it is fairly big). I generally do not carry it but I am backup on call this week then on call next week so I need to. And in reality I should anyways cause I am often in the woods and don't see a sole often. I hate anything around my waist so that is out. And I am pretty small so an arm band is like most my arm but I'd go that route if it was comfortable enough, of which I have yet to find one cause they tend to make them for average size people. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kim, I just started carrying my phone. Right now I usually just tuck it in the band of my running tights, but that's not going to work once it warms up to shorts weather. What about something like these shorts? Pocket in the back. I have a friend that runs in something similar and she loves them http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodMC_300428.html PS. can you tell me how to make that a workable link??? Since I switched to a mac I've become stupid. |

![]() | ![]() http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodMC_300428.html I just use the link icon, which is the one that looks like a .... link. Not sure that pocket is big enough, but I do like the shorts and have been looking for new ones. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Went to the dr today for a follow up on my asthma (exercise induced)... my airways have improved tremendously over the past year. My small airways used to be at 67% and are now at 90%. My middle airways are at 96% and my large airways went from 88% to 98%. I can almost breathe like a normal person! |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hit There Is No Try tonight on the trainer. 28 minutes of intervals FTP or higher. Ow. Think I should be able to go higher as HR isn't quite reaching what I've used for threshold in the past. Still walking funny for awhile afterward. Run went a lot better than I thought too. Able to get up to 8 min/mi after a bit and it wasn't hard. |

My Blackberry just happens to fit into a little zipper pocket on the back one of my pairs of shorts.... ok, I admit it - they are Lululemon (not the ones I stole from my wife). In the winter when I am almost always wearing my vest, my phone will fit nicely in a pocket there too. There are times during the summer when I run home from work and have to carry a little more than my phone and then I take a small travel waist pack (an anti pickpocket thing for a passport and some cash) that will lie flat against me and sit under the waist of my shorts. I don't ever notice it as it doesn't bounce around at all. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't normally run with anything, but a while back I was in Korea and for some reason felt like I should carry a phone with me (mostly in case I got hopelessly lost, which I nearly did once). I put it into a ziplock bag and tucked it under my hat. I know it sounds like it would bounce around up there and bonk you in the head, but actually with the hat pulled down snugly, the phone didn't move around at all and I quickly forgot about it. |

I used to run with mine in the back pocket of my Dri-Fit shorts. I kept it in a ziplock baggie. If not there, then in my belt pouch. I tried the arm band, but I found it just wasn't my thing. It felt like a laptop strapped to my arm. You may find that a SpiBelt works. They seem to be the smallest, most flexible belts I've seen. I thought I saw something the other day that was a cell phone pouch that attaches to a handheld. I don't know if you carry water or not, but that might be an option as well. Or Nathan makes a shoe pouch. That would drive me nuts though. Good Luck! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question for the fishies. I jumped up a lane in Masters this morning. This lane sets their 100's about 10 secs faster than the lane I normally swim in. For reference, 1:50 is my very best 100 and I can only hold that for about 3-4 before dropping to 1:55 or 2:00. I was able to hang on in the back but there was some drafting for sure. It's a very relaxed group from my tri-club, if that makes a difference. If I drop down a lane, I'll be the lead swimmer 90% of the time. Am I better off swimming off lead in a slower lane or holding on to the back (and drafting when necessary) of a faster lane? Hope that makes sense. |

Hope that makes sense. How big is the difference in send-off (as in how much rest are you getting)? I've been gaining more trying to hold onto the back than leading the other, but I'm also on a tighter interval for that. I'm eying the next lane up for this. I'll jump when I think I can make it, though for the group I'm in it's a big jump as we have fairly distinct faster and slower groups without much middle ground. |

Don't drop down a lane unless you are really falling behind / not able to hit your sendoffs. Drafting in the pool is overrated anyhow, since you have swimmers going both directions at the same time. If you are swimming over feet towards the end of your sets, then maybe you can lead your current lane or move up to the next one. |

If you have to fight definitely go with the faster lane. |

Just got back from a Tuesday group ride...love the lighter mornings and it felt like spring here today! My son has his first cross country meet this afternoon. They run the season at a different time in his district (jr high). I am hoping he has a good race, first one is 2.5 miles, mostly path around the lakes. |

You may find that after a few practices you can hang on for longer and not need to grab that draft as much/early. It sounds perfect really, just a bit faster to force you to work harder but not so much faster that you are just getting run over. |

That will make you faster faster than leading a group you don't really have to work to lead. |
