PennState - 2010-04-16 6:17 AM BTW, my new avatar is from the run at LP 2009. I am getting more and more excited as the race gets closer. Anyone else?

Excited no, Terrified YES!! Smile

Seems like it is getting less scary as the training progresses.

There is a fine line between exciting and terrifying

That's exactly how I define the Keene descent during the rains of 2008!

Hi everyone, New to the thread, but love the energy! I raced LP last year and will be there again this year.

Has anyone used a wheelbuilder.com cover at LP? I have a Flashpoint 60 that I used last year and not sure if the cover is worth the extra weight and dealing with crosswinds. Thanks!

That's excellent news!

LazyMarathoner - 2010-04-16 10:16 AM I just have to share my big breakthrough today. Some of you know I tore my PF right before my IM last year so I didn't run for 4 months and had to ease back run/walking for the past few. I've just recently moved to continuous runs and did my first 10 miler today totally pain free. I had some setbacks over the past couple weeks, one run was so atrocious I actually cried afterward. So to bounce back and finally have a decent long run was really incredible. It makes me feel like I'm finally getting back to normal. I hope this sets the tone for a really good training weekend!

KWin - 2010-04-15 8:38 AM OK everyone, when are you gonna do your first open-water swim of the season? And if you live in Florida, California, or Hawaii, you don't count! I'm talking to all of you who live where there is winter and your local open water is COLD. Tell me where you plan to do your first open-water swim and what the water is like.

I'll go first--I live in a town on Long Island that is surrounded by salt water. Long Island Sound on one side, huge bay on the other. The Sound is more fun because sometimes it has waves. Current water temperature is in the high 40s/low 50s. BRRR!

I'm hoping to do my first open-water swim in early May when hopefully the water will be about 55.

I did my first last season in the Hudson River, late May when the water was about 55 and it was fine for me. I like cold water. I was actually in a sleeveless! I'm really aiming to get out by early May, somewhere on Long Island I'm guessing. Can't wait, I H A T E the pool. Hate it.

Good lord, LazyM, you brave soul, make sure you get your shots updated before you hop in that thing! I run along the Hudson all the time and on hot days I think, might be fun to take a quick dip in there afterwards. ...And then I actually LOOK at the water and remember that the PCB dredging project is supposed to take six years...Someone asked me if I was doing the NYC Triathlon last year and thank goodness IMLP was the same weekend. Made for a nice excuse not to dip any exposed areas into the Hudson River .

I like to go up to Harriman and use the lakes up there (occasionally smelly, but...it's a natural smelly...lol). Last time I was up there was August. Water was warm. Not sure how it'll be in mid-spring, but the plan will be to do a swim/bike brick up in that area in May.

For some reason, when I read that, I keep reading "There is a finish line between exciting and terrifying." Must make sense somewhere in the multiverse.

Hi all!

I'm not training for IMLP, in fact, not even training for tris (duathlon), but thought I could advertise here. I'll be in LP for three days of training from may 11th to the 13th... I know, tuesday to thursday isn't the most convenient time for most people!   If anybody feels like joining me for some B/R, you are more than welcome! It's always fun to meet fellow BTers!

Just leave me a pm or something if interested!

PennState - 2010-04-17 2:14 PM Hello LPers. Windy and cold here, but still got a bike ride in. Anyone else bracing the conditions?

It is a brutal windy day out there Fred.  You’re better than me for facing it on the bike.

I am heading out for a run soon.

Went out for a ride on 9W this morning. It sprinkled a little for like, 10 minutes, and then it was mostly cloudy. And cold. Toes are finally starting to thaw out a bit now.

Still feels good to be out there. It also entitles me to a beer and some fries this afternoon. Doncha think?

yeah it destroyed the pace a bit, but it was actually pretty fun.

Yes it killed my pace as well but still got 76 miles in. Not a fun return trip. Felt like I was climbing hills all day on a fairly flat ride. Yeungling will taste very nice watching the Phillies game tonight!

Didn't know we had a Phils fan over here, Monty! Still hard to listen to games without Kalas though Great rides outside LPers, keep having fun out there.

As soon as the Mets figure out how to lose this game (top of 13) I'm heading out for my ride.  Just a quick 2 hour jaunt along the East China Sea to the aquarium where I'll meet the family.

Conditions are brutal - 73 and sunny with 10 mph winds.  BRUTAL

4 hours in that wind today.  I stuck to the mountains so its effect was minimized but it was still a tough day out there.

What happened to spring!? I guess this is good practice for my weekend in LP next month, which will likely be chilly. I rode 30 miles yesterday in the freezing cold and wind on Long Island. It took a couple hours for the feeling to come back in my feet. I have a longer ride today, minimum of 50 and if it's tolerable I'll add more. Can't wait for it to warm up. Nice work everyone for battling the weather and keeping it up!
