Gotta love living/training at altitude....especially when it comes time to visiting ma and pa at sea level and going for a run! Wooohooo...hopefully the effects will last until Sunday- Helen, I might just see you at the race....went for dinner with my sister and some friends and found out that they have an extra bib for the Around the Bay so I need to make a couple of calls tomorrow to see if it will happen. Kinda funny considering I was just mentioning how it was the first road race that really got me excited about road running and now I have the chance to run it again.

Tomorrow is Friday....hope it's a great one!

What exactly are the effects of training at altitude????

The way I understand it, there's less oxygen at higher altitudes so your body compensates by growing more red blood cells to help carry oxygen. When you go back down to sea level you end up with increased oxygen carrying capacity. Since muscles crave oxygen to do their job, and you've got extra oxygen capacity, they can do more work with less effort. Blood doping tries to simulate this effect.

If I were only 1/4 as smart as you are I'd be so happy !  I was about to ask the question, then saw it had already been asked and answered.........LOVE THIS TEAM !

Plus working on your own bike, you are suck a cool chick !!

Good morning all!

I started the day with a run in the fog; that's always interesting

They've reduced the chance of rain for tomorrow so I should be able to get in my maiden voyage on the tri bike. I got my red bar tape last night and got the bars rewrapped. Hopefully the new chain will arrive today. If not, I'm still gonna need to shorten the one that's on there before I can take it out.

Sunday I've got my birthday present swim clinic.

I may have people coming to look at buying my other bike  this afternoon or tomorrow. I will be sad to see it go

hoping no rain for you! and want to see pics of the bike with the red tape

be careful shortening the chain...as most often when you add new cogs the old chain is usually so worn that it doesnt fit well in the new cog teeth..causing the chain to slip, fall off and sometime jamming! had this happen when we changed my 3 cog bike to a single speed...can you not go buy a chain at your LBS?

What exactly are the effects of training at altitude????

because the air is so thin in higher altitudes...when you train there it can be VERY advantageous...

I used to take advil when I would race in high altitude mtn bike races...supposed to give you more oxygen to your blood...thus helping you to breathe a little easier....

not sure if it was mind over matter...but it always seemed to help!

and when you train all the time in altitude and the go to sea level for a race, run....it tends to be MUCh easier to breathe!!!

sure there is a MUCH more scientific explanation! NICOLE???

have a great day ALL...TRAIN WELL! and CHECK IN! time to hear from some of you....

YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! dont make me name names.

This has been a really rough week work wise for me (actually it's been a CRAZY month).  Just trying to keep my head above water with one deadline after another.  Two more deadlines for the 31st - I'll be working all weekend but April is looking up.  I'm a legal nurse consultant at a large law firm and over the last 2 days, they have laid off roughly 15% of the secretarial staff (12 secretaries).  Scary times, so I guess I should be happy I have so much work at this point.  More layoffs to come, but at this point, I'm not too worried since I'm kind of specialized.  But who knows.  (I'm taking a short break from work right now.) I actually got dressed for my run this evening, then my oldest son called asking to borrow some money and to go "grocery shopping" in my kitchen.  My niece is flying in to town tonight to stay for a few days to go to a wedding.  I'm feeling like a slacker and hate that guilty feeling that comes over me when I can't keep up with my training schedule.  Just trying to push it out of my mind for the next few days, but April is new month!

Trying to keep up with all the going ons and will get back to everyone individually when I get the chance.  You are all such a great group!

Hope everyone has a great Friday!  Time to get back to work now!

Lisa...crazy month is an understatement! hoping things settle for you soon...sounds like an interesting job...no routine checking on patients for you! good luck with job security...really scary times for many of us right now!!! and so many uncertainties in our jobs that seemed so secure just a year ago!!!!

love the son and the money and shopping from your cabinet statement! oh how our kids know how to play our heartstrings and able to walk away with almost anything we own...including the kitchen sink!

training will happen....and here is to April being a great month! HERE HERE!!!

we do have a great group...and an amazing bunch of gals that just joined us too!

plus, one final note...Cath emailed me today and she said she would also like to join us but will be a while before she can...hoping we can add her to the list and try and send her inspires...seems she is worried about a mammogram and one of her children is having some eye problems! sooooo inspire her please!!!!!

Jennifer also contacted me and will be back soon...she is having motivational issues and promises to return soon!

I also called Allyssa and spoke with her last night...she will be back today she said...was glad to hear from her! was worried with all the talk about this mtn lion...and this prevert that just moved in near her!

SOOOOOO glad to hear from them! and again if you can inspire them all   - - that would be awesome!

Have  a great day! today is the beginning of the rest of your life...TRAIN WELL!!!!!

my b-day is the 5th. i thought 30 was going to freak me out. it freaked me out from about the time i turned 25, but turning 30 wasn't so bad. then i thought 31 would freak me out, since i'd be "in my 30's" and THAT'S weird. but no......31 didn't freak me out either really, so now here i come to 32, and NOW it's freaking me out. 32 is like grown up!! i have all the trappings of a grown up life, you know? the family, the mortgage, the hot water heater, whatever, but inside i'm still like 17 and unsure of myself, i'm pretty sure that someday the "grown up" police are going to come knocking on my door, and they're gonna say "maam, we see here that you've been living this grown up life, and we're here to call you out as a fraud!! you're actually just a dumb kid-and you're not fooling anyone" LOL and i'll hang my head, and say, yeah, you got me, i'm a total fake here.

Good news and more good news:

The new chain arrived and is installed, so the new bike is ready to hit the road tomorrow.

My old bike is (basically) sold. A nice woman tried her out and likes her as much as I have. She's moving from a hybrid bike just like I was. She gave me a deposit and will come back for the bike with the rest of the cash when she returns from a business trip, middle of next week.

Yea!

The grown up police have not come for me yet.

I haven't freaked out about any particular age, but I did freak out when I started needing reading glasses shortly after I turned 40. That's when I started coloring my hair. I was already going gray and figured I couldn't control getting older, couldn't control my eyesight, but I could control my hair color!

Went swimming this evening - there were four lengths that it just felt like magic. No effort, just so smooth. Is there such a thing as a swimmer's high? Heh. Well, if not, I want to invent one.

Then went to see "The Reader." Interesting. And seriously way more nudity than was required or wanted...

Hi everyone...

Julee...I am so glad you heard from Cath. I have been worried sick about her. Will keep her and her daughter in my thoughts and prayers.

Feel like I am fighting a cold so I am going to take some extra vitamin C and go to bed early tonight. Have a great weekend everyone...train safe.

have a great day ALL...TRAIN WELL! and CHECK IN! time to hear from some of you....

32 is like grown up!! i have all the trappings of a grown up life, you know? the family, the mortgage, the hot water heater, whatever, but inside i'm still like 17 and unsure of myself, i'm pretty sure that someday the "grown up" police are going to come knocking on my door, and they're gonna say "maam, we see here that you've been living this grown up life, and we're here to call you out as a fraud!! you're actually just a dumb kid-and you're not fooling anyone" LOL and i'll hang my head, and say, yeah, you got me, i'm a total fake here.

yeah, I'm not liking the whole being 30ish thing ... I wanna go back to 24!

I'm in such a better place now than I was at 30! Just saying...
