Hello new and ole friends.... hope everyone has a good trng w'end- I'm just heading off to Hamilton On for Around the Bay running race- 30 km - apprarently- it is the oldest race in North America- older than Boston!  Should be fun- using this as some trng for a of couple HIM's.. should be a 'fun'- hilly race- as I live in the flats of south-western Ontario.. Hmmm ..

So that being said- send prayers!!!

have a good weekend gang!

-Helen

Sounds exciting, but Race Days always are, since it gives us a chance to challenge ourselves...I hope you have a great race and enjoy the whole experience. Let us know how it goes!!!

HEY THERE SUNSHINE! how is Amy doing?

I'm doing great girl...well I will be honest yesterday I was down, just plain wornout, so I took the day off from everything...today I feel much better, but taking off again just to be nice to myself...then tomorrow it's back to training. I had such a fun time training this past week, it was really a exciting week, getting back to the bike and running.

How's your day going?????

Today was the day for my swim clinic. It took place at a very nice pool (with crappy showers and bathroom) at a private school and was given by their swim coach.

We started off with some straight swimming to warm up and then went through several different floating and balance drills. The point of this was to reinforce keeping the face looking at the bottom of the pool and to show us that while swimming the center of our balance is the lungs and that having your arms out in front of your body naturally brings your legs up towards the surface. We then did a bunch of drills with kicking to reinforce this (catch-up, one arm, etc). This is when I confirmed what I thought I already knew: I get no propulsion from my kick. Nada! (They say that a typical swimmer get about 10% propulsion from their legs; with me it's got to be more like 0-1%. But, at least, it turns out that my kick is pretty tight so at least it's not slowing me down) The underwater analysis showed that I've definitely come a LONG way on improving my body position (my legs and hips don't really sink any more!) I've got a good line, good extension, and good hip rotation but my arm entry position needs to be a bit deeper, as does my pull. I need more of a frontside stroke (i.e., I need to keep an arm extended out in front for more of my stroke). To work on this I'll be doing a lot of catch-up drills...

As part of the deal the coach said that we are welcome to come back to a couple of his Sunday morning masters swims to continue working on what we learned today. I should definitely take him up on the offer.

amy mutz - 2009-03-29 11:42 AM Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!!!!! As for the age thing.....I love 47, because all the kids are at ages that don't require as much care, money isn't as huge an issure as when you are younger if you have been conservative, so if you want to go on a trip, cruise or do triathlons you can, and at 47 you don't worry as much about your flaws because you know really in the long run it doesn't matter...everyone is going to get old, you also find who you really are deep inside and find out you really like that person you have become, with age comes wisdom and that is "priceless!" Age is truly your state of mind, and that even makes you look younger than you are.... It is all about embracing yourself and loving they person you are inside and out!!!

well put! and soo true! if you dont love yourself...then it is hard to love those around you! I guess I must really love myself...CUZ I SURE LOVE YOU GUYS! not sure if I tell you enough...but I can not tell you how you have gotten me thru some really rough times! and know that you will do so for the times to come!

thanks to all of you who have left me some really kind messages...this last week is a week that I would love to forget! but instead you gave me the strength to face things head on! THANKS Y'ALL (getting ready for my texas visit haha) You are a great bunch and I am honored to know EACH and EVERY one of you! I am leaving Tuesday and will be out of touch probably til the weekend.... the next few days I will be rushing about packing/cleaning and preparing for my trip...so will not be around much! so PLEASE carry on and train well....and hoping you guys will all chime in and keep each other motivated! NO ONE BETTER HAVE DISAPPEARED WHEN I GET SETTLED...I will send out the search parties and hunt you down!!!! just ask Allyssa!!!

You are Jules and Julie is indiana chic I think it would be sooooo awesome to coordinate a group race and try to get together....lets all start thinking and put our two cents in.............for me I would like to go to CA. since I haven't been there or Florida would be cool to...I would love to do an ocean swim....the Florida 70.3 that cheri is doing would be fun and a way to start off the race season!!! That is my two cents worth.

I'm having some coffee right now because it has cooled down into the 40's again, but supposed to be 60's tomorrow.

We will all keep the group going for you while your gone, we owe it to you for being such a wonderful mentor Tell Mom and Dad hello and blessings from us. Enjoy visit with them, I know it will be difficult because of your Dads suffering, just do what you know best....love him!

Back from the mall -- and guess what? Guess? I could put on size 12 pants!!!!

I am in shock!

I have never been a size 12 - not even in junior high. Now, they were still too tight to wear in public, but I was absolutely thrilled.

Turns out I can't move until Tuesday because my Dad had plans for the weekend.

I'm going to have to call the lawyer tomorrow morning because STBX is not taking the deal for an unconested (cheaper) divorce.

you can go directly to thier race report from their training log...usually they will have a link on the day of the race...and or click on the calendar where it is green...hope that helps! you can always just congratulate random people! they would sooo appreciate it! I sometimes will go there and if I see somoene that has only one post or no posts I will go on there and post something! hate for them to not get recognition for all the hard work they just did!!! good luck!

Hi all.  I'm back in Houston and just came back from a nice (late) morning run.  Nice light breeze and a little warm (low 70s).   I'll be flying back to Japan tomorrow morning.

Congrats to Yvonne and Helen who were both running the Hamilton Around the Bay 30K race.  Check out Yvonne's log to see her totally awesome time.  I haven't hit that pace for 1k yet this year.

a. Alyssa would love this weather!

b. The faster I run, the sooner I get out of the rain.

Have a good flight back! Hope you enjoyed your visits.

Wow!  Congrats!  I've never ever run 30K!

Have a good trip back to Japan tomorrow!

I took a little spill on my bike in some gravel yesterday and felt fine...'til this morning.  Now I feel old and my hip hurts.  I thought I somehow got low on electrolytes (was supposed to do 65 miles, but was having dizzy spells and had already decided to cut it way short when I slipped) but the dizziness seems to be Lupus related.  Still feeling dizzy today.

Were there some ideas on raising van money?  Maybe someone could PM me about that as I can't get into forums very often.

Happy Monday everyone!

Hi everyone!  I'm home for a few days, and wanted to check in.  First, huge CONGRATS to Yvonne and Helen on that crazy race!!!  I just read Yvonne's description on her log, and it sounded like difficult conditions.  You are both to be commended for getting out there and doing it!  I second what Dan said -- go see how fabulous Yvonne did.   I don't think Helen is back yet.

I hope everyone has a good training week planned.  I'm trying to crush as much in early this week as I can.  I'm taking a long weekend in Atlanta, so I'll only be able to run while I'm gone.  So it's swimming and biking (and running) until I leave.

Is spring hitting everyone yet?  I've got a bad case of spring fever today.  In the week that I've been gone, the leaves have started to come out on the trees.  I noticed it this morning while I was running, and it really made me smile.  I love spring!  The mornings are usually cool, but the days warm up so nicely.  And we don't get the tremendous humidity yet.  In fact, I wish I were outside right now.

I think I mentioned that we've seen a fox in our neighborhood, and it makes me a little leary to go out for my run in the dark.  Well, this morning I waited for the sun to come up before going out, and when I came back home there was that silly fox in my backyard!  I came in the front door, and I can see straight through to the back, and there he was just sauntering by.  I was inside, so I had the "courage" to chase him away by rapping on the glass.  What would you all do?  I had thought about calling animal control, but he'd be gone by the time why could get somebody out.

Have a great week!
