Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() MDHillSlug - 2009-03-30 1:02 PM Sledge - 2009-03-30 1:42 PM Hi everyone! I'm home for a few days, and wanted to check in. First, huge CONGRATS to Yvonne and Helen on that crazy race!!! I just read Yvonne's description on her log, and it sounded like difficult conditions. You are both to be commended for getting out there and doing it! I second what Dan said -- go see how fabulous Yvonne did. I hope everyone has a good training week planned. I'm trying to crush as much in early this week as I can. I'm taking a long weekend in Atlanta, so I'll only be able to run while I'm gone. So it's swimming and biking (and running) until I leave. Is spring hitting everyone yet? I've got a bad case of spring fever today. In the week that I've been gone, the leaves have started to come out on the trees. I noticed it this morning while I was running, and it really made me smile. I love spring! The mornings are usually cool, but the days warm up so nicely. And we don't get the tremendous humidity yet. In fact, I wish I were outside right now. I think I mentioned that we've seen a fox in our neighborhood, and it makes me a little leary to go out for my run in the dark. Well, this morning I waited for the sun to come up before going out, and when I came back home there was that silly fox in my backyard! I came in the front door, and I can see straight through to the back, and there he was just sauntering by. I was inside, so I had the "courage" to chase him away by rapping on the glass. What would you all do? I had thought about calling animal control, but he'd be gone by the time why could get somebody out. Have a great week! I don't think a fox is any threat to a person. I hope your long weekend is for pleasure? Nicole, you are so smart! Why didn't I think of that? And yes, my long weekend is definitely a pleasure trip. I belong to a Sampler Guild up in Atlanta, and I'm taking a class from a national teacher. I'm excited! |

Have a great week! hey Cheri...great to have you back home...even for the short time you will be there! x2 on posting on Yvonnes race report and check back to do so for Helen...hope you will all go by and see the great job they did! running 18+miles in the rain is not an easy feat! HATS OFF TO YOU BOTH!!! love spring too! except the pollen it tends to bring! I didnt realize how many things triggered my allergies til recently! but LOVE the green and color it brings! so I will just deal with it! as for the fox...they are as afraid of you as you are them...in fact probably more sooo. But I would call animal control...for safety of small animals (cats/dogs) in your area....not sure they can do anything..but can at least be on the lookout...I used to run into them all the time near my parents cabin. They would always run away...but some were curious and would just look..from a far distance...never had any approach me or confront me! now if you see more then one...I would be more concerned! and definitely contact animal control to let them know that small animals need to be locked up or kept away...or they may not come home! ;( way to be safe...better then sorry! have a great day! and really glad to have you back... thanks for keeping things going while I am away...leaving in the morning and since I swam this morning....I have tons of things to do this afternoon...so will probably not be back online til this weekend! I will check in three times a week....PROMISE! have a safe trip to Atlanta....and a good trip!

Congrats to Yvonne and Helen who were both running the Hamilton Around the Bay 30K race. Check out Yvonne's log to see her totally awesome time. I haven't hit that pace for 1k yet this year.
Wow! Congrats! I've never ever run 30K! Have a good trip back to Japan tomorrow! I took a little spill on my bike in some gravel yesterday and felt fine...'til this morning. Now I feel old and my hip hurts. I thought I somehow got low on electrolytes (was supposed to do 65 miles, but was having dizzy spells and had already decided to cut it way short when I slipped) but the dizziness seems to be Lupus related. Still feeling dizzy today. Were there some ideas on raising van money? Maybe someone could PM me about that as I can't get into forums very often. Happy Monday everyone! oh, no! I hope you're feeling better soon! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You guys are a hard group to keep up with. March was a tough month at work, way too busy (can't even remember ever being this busy in the 17 years I've been at my firm) and lots of layoffs the last couple of weeks. But it's almost April, spring is here, baseball season (for my son) is in full swing, and all is well, at least for the time being! I hope that everyone has a great week this week, and that you are starting to have some beautiful spring days for training! Way to go Yvonne and Helen this weekend!! Whose racing next? -Lisa

I have two races coming up, but I haven't signed up yet. Because I'm traveling for work during the week, I'm planning to wait and see how the plane trips go and how tired I am. But on the schedule is a 5K on the 11th and a sprint tri on the 18th. The sprint has an OWS and I don't have a wetsuit. And since I don't own a wetsuit, I'm thinking about renting one online. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'll also need a wetsuit (probably) for my HIM in May, so I'd have to rent twice. I'm beginning to wonder if this makes economic sense, or whether I should buy one. On the other hand, most of the time here the gulf water is so warm that I wouldn't need a wetsuit. It's just for these early season races... |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks gang for all the inspires...you sure know how to make someone feel great! I have my tri swim workout tonight so I am hopeful that it will help flush the legs a bit more. They are feeling pretty good but time for stretching and rolling will be needed today. Just got an email from the race organizer of my super sprint this weekend and it seems like it will be a go no matter what although they may cancel the bike portion depending on road conditions. We have had 3 snow storms in the past 2 weeks so the roads are still a bit slick in areas. I am pretty psyched about it. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was back into the pool today, trying to remember what I was told on Sunday and apply it by myself. The two main things I was working on was slicing my hand into the water and bringing it forward at the proper depth and "reach and replace, the coach's mantra for holding the arm out front longer for each stroke (more of a catch up stroke). I was concentrating so much on this stuff that I was losing my normal breathing pattern and getting tired. When it's all correct, it feels so good! I also spent time doing drills: catch-up, side swimming, and one arm swimming. I've finished out March as my biggest swimming volume month ever: 22,700m! |

Price seems reasonable enough and if you rent, they will allow you to apply the fee(s) toward your purchase. ($40 a shot x2) It would give you a chance to try the wetsuits to see how they fit and give you some time to decide if you want to buy. I have gone through the whole fitting process, I can say that each brand fits VERY differently and you might even want to go to a local tri shop if you have time to give some models a try- likely they will also have a rental program. Good luck with it! BTW if renting online- don't forget to make sure there is enough time for it to arrive! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok all...... I need input /help/ideas/you name it, I need it !!!!! I do not balance well at all in the pool. I tried the drill where you put one hand out straight and lean your head on it........swim on your side and turn your head up to breathe. My friend watched me and she said "you sink"........ I do not know why, but you sink. I would turn my head to breathe and be under the water so far I'd take in water in my nose (why I am sick now I think). my legs did not sink , it was my entire torso and head ! I do not know how to correct my balance. I saw myself on video again from our last class (you can see the horror at www.rubberduckyswimclub.blogspot.com I swim last in that video......... and I literally hang my head low in an attempt to push my chest down into the water. I thought I'd made progress and done so much better fixing how I swim, but wow..........not it just looks bad in a different way. LOL I will ask my friend for her swim coach's name......... but I kinda worry that I am that girl who no matter what someone else tries to show me.....i will not be able to do it. I could not do any of the drills that my friend did so easily, I was embarrassed at my lack of progress and she was SO patient ! She stayed 1/2 hour after our swim was over and worked with me........i still could not do it. My balance is horrible ! I blame my huge boobs !!!!!! so other than a boob reduction ....... I'll take any ideas and seriously, that adult sized rubber ducky floatie.........NOT A BAD IDEA !!!! |
