Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kkcbelle - 2011-02-16 7:10 PM I wasn't offended, Suzy... just didn't want John to get down on himself at all thinking maybe he should be "less" tired. Clearly it takes more than that to get him down, eh?! John -- was thinking more about your recovery and the precious time "wasted" taking care of kids before yourself (I don't mean it's a waste of time... I mean losing timely opportunities for re-fueling). Maybe on bigger days before you head out, or even the night before, you should make up a pb&j or just throw some easy-to-munch foods in a tupperware container and keep 'em on the counter so you can multi-task and feed yourself while you care for others? If you don't have to take the time to prep your own food maybe that would help. I find carbs are easy to injest -- some fruit, a piece of toast, the 1/4 of a bagel my kid didn't finish (I'm always picking at their leftovers for a quick snack). It's harder to get good protein in. But string cheese works or a handful of almonds or some slices of turkey or trail mix? You mentioned yogurt, that's good. You can also make a huge batch of oatmeal in the crockpot one night and just keep it in the fridge and heat up your own meal-sized portions each day over the course of the week. (Extra yummy to make the oatmeal with apples, cinnamon, nuts, etc.) Anyway, in your case I think we can't underestimate the need to keep that big ole' body going strong. It takes fuel. Keep the gas tank with something in it so you're not running on fumes! We all run on fumes sleep-wise, that's a fact, but control what you can, and keep up the great work!!!!!!! Great advice Kyla, John you are doing awesome workouts! The tri training can be so draining..need to fuel the machine!! |

Yesterday I went for my run and I finished what I wanted to do (30 minute run). Then I started walking and stretching a little bit then all of sudden I got this huge cramp in my right calf. It feels like my muscles would not relax, and remained contracted. A bit of ice, then some rolling and heating pad (ice doesn't seem to help at all, but Heat did). It seems better. It is NOT injured, just a cramp. Then I looked at my logs, and saw that just a few days ago that I did the bike drills, and saw that I am weaker in my right leg than my left. It felt harder to do in my right leg. Not much, but just enough that I noticed that. I'm curious if the two is correlated. Could I have gotten the cramp because of the weakenss? Is there something (isolating leg exercise) that I can do to strengthen my right leg better? I get those cramps in the calf and thigh sometimes. Even the next day they can be sore. I think it's just overall tight muscles. Find some good stretches and do them often. How do you know you're weaker in one leg than another? I think everyone probably is but curious how you would know? When I do leg presses, and occasionally I do the one leg press, it is harder for me to press with my right leg over left. Recently I did one leg drills, and I found it "harder" to do the drill with my right, and it feels like I need to go down a lower gear to get the same "feel" as it would be for my left. So, from what I've read that the one-leg drills on the trainer will help you tell which leg is weaker. It's not THAT weak, but it's enough for me to notice the difference. The cramp went away today, Thanks to the heat therapy. I only experienced this once, but I wasn't sure if it's correlated to weakness of the leg or it's just a coincidence. |

Oh HAPPY DAY. ????????????? Is your new bike allergic to the trainer ???????? Seriously, please explain because I don't understand this comment? I don't want to wear it out GEEZ.. hahahaa No the New bike has 650 wheels. IT won't work on my trainer. I went into work today and I designed up a couple of spacers. Now when I manage to find a window of opportunity I will jump on a mill in the maint shop at work and machine up the spacer I need to move my resistance wheel up. It fits on the trainer... but it is about 1 inch from having any resistance.....lol... Much like the owner of the bike its a bit short... |

I have the same problem - my left leg is clearly stronger than my right. It is visibly larger too, i.e., the left quad. Have you seen any advice on correcting that problem? They still don't know what causes cramps - probably just a coincidence. |

![]() | ![]() My number one race for this year is Leamington Tomato Man Sprint on fathers day weekend. The interesting part is my my wife's new boss started this triatlon out of his back yard 20 years ago. It was the first triathlon in southwestern ontario. He is 62 and run several IM over his life. His whole family does triathlons, he has been an inspiration. I followed him while he was doing IM Germany last year. My goal is to complete my very first SPRINT Triathlon at his 21st Year Event. This will also be the very first year that it is a qualifier for the worlds. RELAX I AM NOT GOING TO QUALIFY...hahaha. But I am going to complete my first Sprint here. I am already nervous, excited etc. I have convince two of my co-workers to join me. They joined me in a try a tri last year. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No racing for me yet. My number one race this year (at this time) is the Guelph Lake Olympic. I want to take another 9 minutes off last years time and get under 3 hours. I believe I can do this with a little better time in my cycling and running. Oh and also my swimming and transitions. Other than that I have nothing to work on except maybe some strength training |

![]() | ![]() WOOO where is everyone. I usually have to filter through about 3-4 pages a day. I hammered out a 5k run with a friend last night. It was a sloppy mess out with all the snow melting. I had completely soaked feet about 500 feet from my house. But it was a great run and warm out. It was 41 Degrees F when I went out, with a sweater over my shirt and had to peel that off right away. Heck I almost wished I had gone out in shorts instead of tights. Signs of spring... Still a lot of snow to melt and it is supposed to get up to 47 today... Its really wet here. Hoping it clears up and gets up to the mid 40s for Saturday so I can get out on the bike as well with my friend. |

I have Alaskan Malamutes and I love the northern breed to death as long as you know how to deal with them. I am sure they loved pulling the kids, its just a matter of getting them to stop once they start. Everyone looks happy including a smile on the dog. |

![]() Those pups would love to pull all day! They're a ton of fun. It's soggy with the warm weather here, too. I'm not running my usual trail because the creek tends to get a bit smelly during times like this. Ew. Enjoy the nice weather! I hope you can get out for a ride on your new bike! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That picture is TOOOO CUTE! We haven't tried to hook Nadie up to a sled or anything since we got her, so we don't know how she would respond, but I can imagine once a sled dog, always a sled dog. Speaking of which, I'm trying to convince Ryan that we need to adopt this guy this weekend: http://upaws.org/available.php?id=6526 . We're trying to put together our own little team, I guess! So if you agree that we need him, you should probably PM Ryan and tell him that... ![]() I ran a little over 3 miles this morning, and for some reason, my legs just wanted to go really fast. My heartrate was high, but I wasn't really hurting at all, so I just went with it. Ryan told me I need to tone it down because I don't want to peak yet. Could that be what it means? Also, I didn't get a response to this when I asked earlier, so I'm going to ask again! Do you guys know what the limitations on a mag trainer are as compared to a fluid trainer? I'm looking at buying a fluid because Ryan thinks I'm starting to ride outside the limitations of the mag. I'm not really sure what that means. And I realize now that the reason I talk about Ryan so much is because he is essentially my coach, too! He is not shy about telling me what I do right or wrong. Oh well! |

Yuck, hammies kill when you pull them. Hate it. Best advice I have is to rest it as much as you can this week. With 5 weeks to go, you should be okay by then if you give it some time to recover! Good luck! |
