Joel was planning on staying in for 20 years and retiring, but now it doesn't even seem worth it anymore. |

I will definatley go back to LOU at some point, maybe 2014? It's nice that it is so close for me. IMFL is a great venue ~ a little late in the season for me, but a great race. You will enjoy it! Dang girl - that is awesome! I am trying to find a 70.3 in July of next year but like this year am having a hard time finding one within a reasonable drive. Muncie and Racine are both 12-hour drives each way for me. Of the ones I found online, Vineman sounds the funnest (helloooo wine country!) but that would involve flying me and my bike. We'll see... |

Veteran 329 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Wow! My family and I arrived back in Alaska last night, and I am now here at work still relishing in the IM bliss. I'm so happy to see all of you still posting on this board. This board made this race even that more memorable. Depending on where my life and career lead me will determine when and where I do my next IM. I'm thinking Florida in 2013. I have already decided that there will be no IM distance races in 2012. Not because it was overwhelming, but because I anticipate a move back South--I hope my boss isn't secretly reading this board Louisville will always hold a special place in my heart. I couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect race for my inagural IM. Heck, I've had more issues in short sprint triathlons than I did in Louisville. By the way, who was wearing the BT kit out on the course? I think I saw two different men with it on. Very neat to see. Nathan |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Hello- I received a proof of my book today. I had to make some changes, so it will be another week before it is available. However, I can share with you the "Introduction." Note...I am not completely happy with the introduction or any other part of the book for that matter, but I could change it again and again for years and still feel this way. At this point I'm trying to be satisfied and move on with my life. In fact, when I read the following introduction...I cringed.
Introduction In 2005 I published, Race Fans, My Genesis and Evolution as a Triathlete. The purpose of that particular book was to share with my family and friends what it is like for me to be a triathlete. I put the reader in the water, on the bike, and in running shoes along with me for many races throughout the years. If you want to know what it’s like being in my head when I race, that is a good book to read. This book, The Road to Ironman Louisville 2011, A Man, a Journey, and 140.6 Miles of Swim, Bike, Run is not meant to take the reader through many races, though it will ultimately take you through my day in Louisville. No, this book is intended to show my family and friends my reflections leading up to the race. This book reveals much of my process in thinking and feeling. It is not a step-by-step explanation of my training, but of what I’m thinking about when I’m reflecting on my journey. Through these pages, you will also be introduced to many of the characters I have met along the way through Beginner Triathlete.com. This will be in the form of sixteen different athlete interviews. The Road to Ironman Louisville, A Man, a Journey, and 140.6 Miles of Swim, Bike, Run, in many ways is not just my story, but theirs as well. The book contains entries from my blog. They are dated for when I entered my posts. The book shares a similar name as my blog because it is almost exclusively a compilation of my blog posts throughout my season. You will find I have a terrible time determining when to appropriately insert a comma, a have a heck of a time deciding when to use the word that, and my timing for when to start a new paragraph is awful. Furthermore, I am atrocious with the use of dialogue. I hope these and other errors are not too distracting. On that note…enjoy.

Regular 99 Holland, Mich. | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Hey, Sam! Since the majority of my day is spent at work as a writer/editor, I can relate to your angst in the publication process ; - ) Still, I think that you articulate your approach quite well in the intro. along with the idea that this will be a different book than the first you've done. That, in itself, creates a different focus, and I think you'll be happy with the finished product. Of course, one can never ever completely let go of one's writing, no matter what the project is. I still publish material each week (in a different setting, mind you) that I'm never entirely satisfied with. Such is the very fluid process of writing, eh? Still, I'm excited to read the story, which you've already shared a great deal of with us. Since I always begin by teaching personal narratives with my community college students, I still think it's the very best and most genuine writing we can create. Just my two cents. |

Extreme Veteran 604 Carrollton, Virginia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Hahaha... IF (IF IF IF) I do another IM next year, it will either be IMKY or IMCOZ. I'd prefer Cozumel based on everything I hear (and having done IMKY twice) but the travel and date is hard - my wife is a teacher and IMKY is SOOOOO much easier to get her to. Having said that, I did Rev 3 Cedar Point full this past weekend and it was an UH-MAZE-ING race. Really. WAYYYY different than IMKY... soo much smaller... such a different course, but a really, really great race. And Rev3 as a company was SO accommodating to me as a last minute sign up (4 days prior to race). |

I'll be working on my race report this afternoon and come back and let you know when it was up. I'll try to be detailed moreso than typically since it is a race more people have not done or read about - versus something widespread like IMKY. |

Veteran 300 Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread All this talk of next year and I'm still trying to get this year over with I may try to get into IMAZ with a friend and if that doesn't work I think I will give IMKY another go. The end of August is a better time frame for me, after September the wife goes back to teaching, the days are shorter and colder. IMWI would be good but it falls on a bad weekend. Anything before July requires to much time on the trainer, no thank you MI Iron sounds interesting, anything else in August that I'm missing?? IMCA sounds awesome but seemed like a logistic nightmare. Someone mentioned the HITS series, but most of their Irion Distance events are shorter than 140.6...very odd. When you need to ask "What distance was your full iron race?" something is off in the universe |

Veteran 329 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Good for you, Gobey, for staying focused. I don't have any advice for you in terms of late summer Iron distance races; but I wanted to stop in and wish you the best of luck. I am confident you will redeem yourself in your next attempt. As for me, I am going to either do Louisville again in 2013 or Florida in 2013--I like the idea of an ocean swim (Gulf to be exact). The only hold up I have for Florida is that it is in November and I will miss a lot of college football on those long training weekends. Nathan |
