Question 1:

Do any of you bike somewhere, run, and then bike home?  If you do, how do you deal with the logistics of your "stuff":  running shoes/socks, nutrition.  Do you wear a backpack?, do you lock your bike while you're running?

I'm trying to keep most of my running off-road (for my sore achy feet), so it's making bricks hard to do logistically.  Right now I ride, hop in my car and drive to a park to run, but it makes it really difficult to get there in time to make it a "true" brick.

#2:

bike tire pressure--my tires recommended psi range is 100-145.  I've been filling them to 120psi for both training rides and races.  Should I be going higher on race day?

GO MG RACERS, GO!!!

I have only done bricks using home as a base, so no help there.

On the tires, there is a thread in the tritalk forum and they include the chart below which pops up at least once a year when people ask about their tire pressure.  I have kept mine at 100 psi ever since seeing this chart.  I used to run them up around 115 and I would bounce around.    Recommended pressure may vary according to manufacturer.

Here's the thread: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=450386&posts=48&start=1

Thanks for the chart Dan and for the other responses.  It looks like I might be backing the pressure down closer to 100 psi.  I'm going to give it a try and see how it feel.  My dentist will probably thank you all too!  LOL

Suzy and Kim, I don't know why it sometimes takes other people to point out things that should be quite obvious.  I can load up my bike and run gear and drive over to Oxbow park.  There's even a really nice paved multi purpose trail adjacent to the park, so I can ride and then run my favorite trails.  FIXED.

Can someone do a rain dance for us.  My brother is a farmer (who doesn't irrigate).  He's not the most pleasant person to be around during good times.  I'm going to keep my distance!  Ha!

Great information, but why do training books always make out that being over 180lbs makes you a chubba? Also when I look at pace charts in the Triathletes Training Bible my paces for running put me way down the list and yet at most races I'm in the top third??

The brick question is interesting, I didn't do any bricks before my last tri but I did quite a few of my long runs on Sunday afternoon having done my long ride that morning - so not a brick just a double day. I think that was more effective for me. I'm one of those people who actually likes running off the bike so come race day I seem to settle into the run quite comfortably.

I had a great morning.  I volunteered at our local Kids Try-athlon.  I helped about 300 kids from 5-15 years old in T1.  Fun and entertaining times.  One boy was so focused, he sped off on his bike still wearing his goggles.  Several kids in training wheels got stuck in the gravel and were just sitting there spinning until we gave them a push.

P.S.  If you're a parent of a kid doing a triathlon, just remember to lighten up and go easy.  The kids were having a blast, but some of the parents were INTENSE!  This is all designed to instill a desire to keep on swimming, biking and running for the joy of it.

Hope all is going well with our racers.  Stay hydrated and crush it!!

I will post my RR tomorrow.  Short story: brutal weather.  They cut the swim in half because of waves and current and it was still tough, but I made it this time.   The bike was scary at times (really hard rain, clouds or fog, lots of water on the road, narrow roads, lots of turns, and the death wobble several times amidst all that) and fun for the second half when the rain slacked off a bit.   The run was the best part for me.  Temps stayed low and I picked the right rabbit to follow.   According to my Garmin, I clocked 47:13 which is only 2 seconds slower than my best 10k from an Oly last year.

Dan, you have had some epic races this year!! Wow!! Great job, and awesome run! Looking forward to that RR!

OK, is it just me?? I cannot find Vineman tracking and I'm going nuts digging around for it. On Ironmanlive, the only races that show at the top are Lake Stevens, Racine, and Switzerland. WTF??? Somehow I worked my way to a test page for Vineman and saw some fun photos, but wasn't able to find any athlete results. I'm really going nuts here as I need to check up on our little Kimster! HELP!!!!!

?? 1425 gives me Samantha Hodges from San Francisco, who didn't swim as fast as our Melissa. Confused.

Edit. Found Melissa -- 1435. Get an editor, Fatty!!!

But the triple posting skill set is a bit further down the line.

Heading off to San Francisco to cheer on the Giants, since Kim can't be there.  Wink

Lots of impressive results coming in.  Can't wait to read the RR, Dan.  You should have some good pictures to share with us!

David, great race and I feel your pain with the side stitches. Been there and suffered through them.

Kim and Melissa are crushing it out there.  Melissa's making her first HIM look like a piece of cake.
