Pre-race routine:

Half a wheat bagel with Nutella and a Minute Maid Lemonade for breakfast. Drank most of a bottle of water on the drive over. Popped a couple of Honey Stingers about 15 minutes before the race.

80 degrees with 80% humidity this morning. They named this one right.

Comments:

Felt good going into this run and my first mile was smooth and easy. Developed a side stitch on my right side about halfway through mile two and it stayed with me the rest of the race. Taking water at the aid stations seemed to help temporarily, but that could just as easily be attributed to my walking through them. Dropping my pace helped, but shortly after I picked it back up the pain would return. Frustrating race because while I feel like I ran the best race I could under the circumstances, but I know I can run faster than I did.

What would you do differently?:

HTFU? I don't know. I just didn't have the motivation to push through the pain on this one.
Post race
Warm down:

Water and a banana about 15 minutes after the race. Ate the top off a piece of cheese pizza.

Well done David! My advice is choose a realistic target time for a 10k then look on the MacMillan running calculator to find your training paces. For a 10k build up to a 14k long run one week before the race. Make sure you run the long runs at an easy pace and run the intervals at the prescribed pace and give yourself at least 8 weeks of this before a target race, GOOD LUCK!

Stuff happens when you race, can't do much about it.  Good job pushing through it.

You will get there, David!  Good job pushing through.

re: side stitches...try to take really deep breaths and see if that helps???  it usually helps me to get them to go away!
