No and mostly likely to save costs I'll be camping.  Plus I enjoy sleeping outside vs. a hotel anyways =)

I'll see you @ WIBA and MOWS also. I have brother living in Milwaukee so I hope to hit the course at least another time before race day.  Good luck w/ your training.

Have you checked camping in the area? I've not yet and wondered if you (or anyone) had recommendations for a close camping spot?

I'm glad I found this thread.  I'll enjoy rolling through it from time to time to see what others think of IMWI.

To start:

1. Is this your first IM?NO
2. Have you done IMWI before? 5 times and counting
3. What are your goals for the 2011 race? Sub 11 but would love a sub 10:30 (in reality I want to beat my wife's PR of 10:39:56)
4. How/Why did you select the Ironman Wisconsin race?  I live in Madison, went to school at UW, raced the first IMWI, have ridden the bike course over 60 times, it's just home for me.
5. Do you have any specific questions that you wish addressed about IMWI; the race, training etc...? Actually I'm here to help if others have questions.  PM me if you'd like.  I'm up for summer rides and runs if you're coming to town.

Forgot about this thread....smacks head.

A picture of the run course, other side of the building is about Mile 18 of the run.

My update: Training is going well, two more weeks of Vo2m work and move back into a LT block. Power numbers are looking good, if I can put the fork down, looking at 4w/kg at the next test.

Running outside once a week but on the hamster wheel for the most part. Just started swimming again *grumble grumble*

Not yet.  Every time I think too, I'm at work and they filter our interent here.  But suprisingly I can get to this site, weird? Anyway I'm hoping to cross that little detail off my to-do list tonight.  I'll let you know what I find.

This is where we camped last year and are again this year.  It is about a 6 min drive time to the swim start.  Electric and regular sites still available.  Clean bathrooms and showers available close to campsites.

When it asks you to select a park..click on Lake Farm county park.

In fact here is a google map from the park to Monona Terrace.

Hey Scott - you may want to start here with your campground search - http://www.countyofdane.com/lwrd/parks/lake_farm.aspx I found it to be the closest campground to Monona Terrace - 6 miles away. It has electric only with water at various places throughout but no full hook ups so if that's what you need you'll have to go keep looking. On my search someone mentioned a couple KOAs in the area. Oh, and there's plenty of campsites available at Lake Farm for race weekend at this point. Electric sites are $25/night and non-electric are $16. Nice for the wallet.

Thanks for all the info.  I'm just tenting it so a site without electric even would be fine.  I'm used to camping in the Boundary Waters and along the Superior Hiking Trail.  I didn't think there would be something so close to the swim start.  That's awesome!  I'll let you folks know which site I pick.  I'll probably be staying there for those training weekends I mentioned in my earlier post.

Fred Doucette - 2011-01-19 9:17 AM I will definitely be heading up in July or August. I need to ride the course at least once to get an idea of the hills and the pacing downhill etc.

It is an interesting IM for me as I usually am done IM season by late July, so it will make for a longer season. Then again my off-season will probably start immediately after, so it's a nice transition.

How's everybody's training going?

Training plan officially started this past Monday. So far, so good, but then again what can go wrong only three days in?...

I'm just curious - Is anyone else using the D3 Multisport plans from beginnertriathlete.com? I'm using the 20 HIM and then the 12 week bridge to IM with two weeks in between plans (because that's the way my races fall on the calendar). I was hoping to get someone else's take on the amount of volume the plan calls for so early.

. Hey congrats! When is the big day?

Wait til you meet those two Fred, 2 of the nicest people on the planet! Craig gave me a tour of the bike course in 2007 when I did the race my first time. He's robbing the cradle marrying a 25 year old! (Was that my outside voice?) I can't wait to get out there again this year.

BTW - Training is getting back on track. I am back with Kevin Crossman of T3 Coaching with my Kouch to Kona plan. :-)

LOVE this pic you guys!!! Such an exciting 2011 it's going to be for you.

Maybe I missed an earlier discussion about WI course offerings.........What do they offer to drink now? Gatorade something? Just wanting to start experiments with my tummy. I'm aware of the coke and chikcen broth on the run course.

also cannot wait to ride the course MANY times this spring/summer. I say we just schedule a bunch right off the bat!! WOOT!!!!!

Lara...that pic is of me and Bob...LOL! Craig was taking the picture!

If I remember right the drink was Perform last year! And it was Pepsi....rather than coke.  The pros made sure we heard the complaints on that one.

Throw some dates out there and I am sure we can get some on the schedule! Can't wait!

Yes, the drinks on the bike course were Perform by Powerbar and water, along with powerbars, gels, and bananas for food. The run had chicken broth and cola as mentioned before along with Perform, water, ice chips, wet sponges, pretzels, gels, bananas, and possibly cookies. And well as far as the swim goes to drink there is murky Lake Monona water, and to eat, the occasional seaweed leaf that floats by or a nearby competitors foot.

Just an FYI to everyone- they reuse the sponges. I found it hard to believe that for $600 you couldn't get a clean sponge.

Do you mean from year to year/race to race? At least at my run station the sponges started out clean (not sure if they had ever been used before that day), and were not reused. I handed out sponges for much of the run, and there were more than enough so that none had to be reused, and most of the volunteers did a pretty good job of making sure everything was clean. I agree that for $600 we should get a clean sponge, but at least in my experience this was the case.
