Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod ukweeble - 2012-05-21 2:17 AM Serious question for y'aalll. I have found a rather tempting olympic distance Tri that is run on 12th Aug. My original goal was to do a tri at this distance as i didn't even know that sprints existed. It still remains a goal. So do you think that i can prepare for it in only 11 weeks, especially considering my current base fitness is not too good. My typical training is just run 5 km, bike 16km and swim 500m (not all necessarily in the same week!!!). I would have to jump to 10km run, 42 km bike and 1500m OWS, all in the same day. Yikes. My only concern for you is the swim as it doesn't look like you've actually been doing any! If you want to do this race, I think you need to make sure you are comfortable with the swim distance. So get in the pool And then log it in the May challenge https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0An7ZkKfHG1L1dDlZSkhxOWx... |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod I logged in this morning, started reading and actually did a fist pump while sitting at my desk. What a great bit of news to read on a Monday morning. Great races and even better personal news. Kate - Great swim, you killed it and you know it! How cool is it to put aside fear and swim from a place of confidence? The bike course sounds tough. Kirk - You are the man! 27 flat after not only the race, but the past few weeks you've had on the bike. Wow, you rock. Great job on a PR and on beating your goal. Salty - Are you kidding me, 1:34?!?! Wow, I can only dream of the day when I'm running 7:00 min miles for a HM. You are a running goddess in my eyes. Kirsten - I have to say, the pics of the haircut were pretty interesting. The $700 bucks to help others is AWESOME! You are quite the special person. Keep your swim smooth and steady and you'll be fine in your race. Race with a smile and stick to your decision. Ann Marie - Nice to see you are getting your mojo on. We all go through ups and downs, I know I struggle with the mental/emotional consistency. Good job on working through the injury and the struggle. Felicia - The wind you face just sounds brutal. Mine is not nearly what you deal with, but I feel much the same way. My rides from work to home are generally wind facing. I try to keep Bryancd's post in mind lately. Stay low!!! TJ - Making your races bigger then yourself is really a cool goal. I'm just happy when I'm still standing at the end. You are an inspiration. BTW, anyone looking to help out someone else in a really easy way? How about packing up some old race medals and giving them to someone else? If you want info, send a PM to Renee on BT and find out about her upcoming trip to Haiti. Allen - If this group has shown me anything, it shows that anything is possible. You can do that Oly, just put your mind to it. Get out there and get training, or you'll be buggered up. Yanti - I pray that all the decisions that are being made for your mom are working out, that things are calming down a bit and that you are feeling OK as well. Your strength and depth of character are certainly making life easier for her at this point. Jo - The reason for my fist pump this morning was your post. I hope that you and your daughter continue to have great weekends. Congrats! I know I left folks out, and I'm sorry for that. I do have to get to work this morning, since we are a person down this week. I will continue to run and pray for all of you, since that seems to be the best tool that I have been given. Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Great job on the races everyone! A sprint with a 1,000m swim? I thought my 750 was long for a sprint! My weekend was crazy busy so I sacrificed my long run rather than my long ride. Then we went out and watched the "ring of fire" eclipse which was only visible in parts of the southwest. Pretty cool! I upgraded from my 30 lap Ironman Timex watch to a 150 (25% off at REI). The 30 lap is still in good shape but I needed more laps so if anyone wants the 30 I'll send it to you. It's a womens watch but it's not super feminine, just small. I'll post pics if anyone's interested. ETA: Kirk, I liked the line in your report about the Manatee motivation. Allen, HTFU and do the OLY!! Edited by rrrunner 2012-05-21 10:25 AM |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod kgore - 2012-05-21 3:52 AM GREAT race today for me! I had the best swim EVER! 27 minutes for 1000m in a race is UNHEARD of for me! I actually just kept going and going in the water---I didn't need to rest at all---total breakthrough. As for the bike, it was S-L-O-W--but when you consider that out of 22 miles, about 13.5 of it was steep uphills, AND I have barely been able to train in about 2 weeks, AND my asthma was trying to kill me, I am not disappointed at all. The Run also went well, though by that point my body basically said it was NOT happy--and I really had to pee (this was really bad when people would make me laugh, and of course my tri club is always entertaining at the aid station they run, so that was kind of iffy. Over all, I am totally happy with my race! Its considered one of the toughest local races there is in this area.---the Half Ironman distance they put on is known as the 'world's toughest' and I don't think they are too off base with that. I am now looking forward to my first Olympic in August--which has considerably less hills! At least I know I can do the swim now! First though, another sprint in July--in which I can redeem myself on my worst race from last year! Race report will be done once I see my results--and after I relax a bit! Congrats other PR-ing and racing manatees!!!! As I said before, Auburn is CRAZY TOUGH but you were CRAZIER AND TOUGHER! CONGRATULATIONS KATE! |

First off: Jo, I wish all the best for you and your family's safety. How scary, and I will never understand how people can treat each other, especially ones they 'love' so very badly. All weekend racing manatees: Big congrats to all the PRs and strong finishes!! Allen: sorry about the Herman's Hermits association. It was more the song than the group. From now on I will only associate you with some of the groups you mentioned like Nirvana or Foo Fighters! Kirsten: you are definitely able to pull off the shaved look, wow! And for such a great cause. Yanti: hope your mom, you and your sister are all doing OK. My race Sat. was full of mixed emotions. Overall I did set a new PR by 4 minutes for this course (3rd year doing same race) but I didn't make my swim or bike goals. Or running, for that matter. Race day (without any actual numerical reasons, just feelings) I thought I made my swim and bike time goals and was really happy and stoked. I knew the run wasn't going to be anything special since I haven't been running since March because of healing my Achilles plus I really suck at running even when I am not injured. But when I looked at the results today I saw the truth, that I didn't make my goals and didn't improve as much as I thought. Very disappointing. I did improve my transition times... But the cool thing is my fast friends all won some sort of award or awards, in some cases. All in all it was a good day because the weather was beautiful, the people were great, money was raised for an awesome, worthy cause, and I had the physical ability to participate and have fun. I don't take my health for granted, ever. Every day I am thankful that I can do what I can do, every race I am thankful to be able to participate. I may not be as fast as my friends, or even as fast as I want to be, but I can do it. Edited by melbo55 2012-05-21 12:18 PM |

Extreme Veteran 536 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod rrrunner - 2012-05-18 1:33 PM Oh, I meant to ask you all about something. At the "risk" of adding to everyone's already lengthy prayer list... my beautiful 24 year old niece (lives in Salina, KS for you Kansicans) was diagnosed with lymphoma on Wednesday. Like so many of us, I know way too many people who have battled cancer, some won, some fought valiantly until the end. I've lost 2 family members in the last two years to cancer, one was leukemia, one was lung cancer (he was the niece's uncle, passed last week). So I am considering doing a Team In Training event. I went to a meeting after my cousin passed a few months ago. I'm unsure (nervous) about the fundraising but right now feel a strong desire to DO SOMETHING! Anyone done or know someone who did? What are your thoughts? Thanks for listening. I might ask in COJ but feel so comfortable with y'all. Hey TJ - I did Team in Training for my first marathon (which snow balled into a second marathon and now triathlons, oh my!) I had no personal connection to leukemia/lymphoma and I was still able to exceed the $4000 needed for my race in San Francisco. I think with a personal connection, especially a young person like your niece, you will have no problems. But if you want some fundraiser ideas, feel free to PM me! TNT is a great organization and they give a TON of support, so I would whole-heartedly encourage you to sign up for an event. It does help you to feel as though you are doing something to fight these terrible diseases. |

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Actually I hate tokays slightly less than what we call cicaks (the smaller geckos). They're good luck. (Actually, I like all geckos FOR their mosquito-munching effects, that only). Blech. Try to post it near the last post of a page, 'kay? That way we can move quickly on to the next one and I won't have to see it ... Being that one of the signs of extreme illness in me is that geckos don't freak me out, after this extended bout ... it's weird ... I still think they're horrible and frightful, but less so. I just haven't had enough energy to be frightened or care. Still pretty grossed out, though. I almost took a picture of one the other day, just to see if I could. That would have been unthinkable just a few months ago. I had the camera out and everything but it ran off and under a door. |
