Found this article in case what I now see on the reports comes true. http://www.endurancenation.us/blog/how-to/how-to-race-a-triathlon-in-the-rain/ Could be an interesting day ... but still very fired up. Thanks. I see Friday rain predicted but none Saturday so expect wet roads to say the least. >.< |

Veteran 154 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 California : Official Thread I live about 20 min south of Oceanside.... Some tips for the visitors... If you want a magical place to do some OWS swimming, go down to La Jolla Cove. See: http://www.lajollacoveswimclub.com/ Ifthe water is clear (one in four shot of it being clear) you will get to see som sea lions swimming around and frolicking in the water while you swim.
If you are looking for some place to ride the bike... if you bring ID you can ride the front part of the course through camp Pendelton and up the old 101 all the way to the trestles bike path.
If your looking for a ride with no cars on a nice bike path then try the San Luis Rey River Trail, The best place to get on is at the end of Neptune Way. Do a google map search for Neptune Way Oceanside Then zoom in at the west end of neptune way you will see the bike trail. The first 0.6mile or so is a bit tight, but after that one can ride to 7.5 miles without having to deal with cars in any form... Great place to make sure your bike is in order after the trip...

Yay!!! :D ST has a pretty good discussion on the weather. Tribodyboarder is tr traditional oceanside meteorologist every year LOL. Yes, models show the low pressure system is slowing and looks like Saturday will be nice!! last long weekend in the books. 2:30 ride with a :25 run at HIM pace yesterday (plus a little paddling in the afternoon). 9 mile trail run and 2 mile OWS today. Done and done. Feel better going into this race than any I can recall. Hope everyone is feeling good and ready |

Member 56 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 California : Official Thread Any suggestions on a place to Swim on Friday morning to get acclimated to the water? Assume somewhere near the pier won't be a problem assuming the swells are too big (haven't checked the surf report) Plan to head out around 7 or 730am. If any out of towers are interested I plan on about 25-30 minutes at around a 1:45 -1:50 pace. |

I'm planning on swimming near the pier. That's where the 2.4 of the Tiki Swim starts. Click through for the current surf report. Play in the surf and swim a few hundred beyond the breakers, and you won't be one of the people troubled by the mild chop at the harbor entrance. http://www.tikiswim.com/ |

Master 2477 Oceanside, California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 California : Official Thread 1. I really want to kick this chest cold. I can run and bike at the same speed, but my pulse runs 10 bpm higher. However, swimming just sucks.
2. Had a beautiful ride on the Marine base Saturday. Although they have been doing some road construction, I had to ride on some steel plates and uneven pavement. I don't know how this affects the race course, I haven't studied the course maps well enough yet.
3. If anyone is around the expo on Friday, please cheer for my boy for the IronKids one miler. It would be cool if someone other than mom and dad cheered him on. He has done 5k's with me, but he has never done more than 1k solo. Jaidev (pronounced "Jay-Dave"). |

Eric - was the construction right after the Harbor Gate for that new building? I rode two weeks ago and they had that section closed to bikes, with a little detour. Meant not riding that short section of the course, but it got me onto a part of the base I'd never seen, kinda cool. If that's the area, the race course is all on the west/ocean side of Vandegrift at that point (in fact the course goes behind the commisary area) so it shouldn't affect it. As of two weeks ago there was not any other construction on the course that I saw. Looks like they are doing some major construction right at Vandegrift/Wire Mtn road intersection, next year's course is gonna have some very different scenery Edited by ChrisM 2013-03-25 12:02 PM |

The detour was still up, and I forget the name of the street. The steel plates and some recently patched ditch is at the base of that first hill when you take the left at the light (from Vandergrift to Stuart Mesa?) where the swampy water is... This is going north from Oside BTW. |

Member 45 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 California : Official Thread Sharks wouldn't come close. They don't like noise. Plus im sure they'd run off after experiencing waves and waves of people coming at them throughout the hour. Sea lions on the other hand are very curious and might join in the festivities. |
