She might mean PowerGrips.

I've never seen those Power Grips before. I might have to check into those! Until I get used to my new shoes/pedals.

Morning everyone.  I'm up early, ready to run, and it's raining outside again.  And not just a little bit of rain.  I was prepared to run in the drizzle, but not this downpour.  My few days at home haven't really turned out like I planned.  Oh well, I'm heading to Atlanta for a few days (and driving through this storm!), and will hopefully get a few runs in up there!

Even though it is only Thursday, I wish everyone a good weekend!

You are just the best team ever !  I just love you all, not only for the help you give me (and you give me so much), but for who you are.

I enjoy getting to know you all, I picked "GPOL" 'cause the name sounded cool............. unreal that my Amy M is 1 hour from me so close we can play together and I have the best team ever to be a part of !!!  that was the best pick I ever made !!

Good night all !!!

I agree this is the best mentor group I have ever been in...there is no reason to disband until January 1, and then maybe Julee will start another group and we can either join or expand our horizons, or do both.

Congrats on the weight loss, great job. You SHOULD be feeling really good about yourself!

You must be feeling on top of the world...enjoy the new you and don't be afraid of falling off, you will learn your own boundries and you can't gain it back in one day or one meal...but you can over the course of time...so just learn what works for your mind and body.

I have a set that I used for my duathlon; did the whole thing in running shoes and breezed through the transitions   I like them better than the toe clips I had from an older bike: more secure without having to fiddle with straps to get in and out.

First ride on my "real bike".  It's not perfect, but it will do. I think it will really hurt my elbow to be on a mtn bike though.  the pressure that is on it to hold yourself up.....wow it is achey now !

I put on my helmet, it feels strange.  Bundled up (hhmmmmm 76 degrees and my ears were still cold ).  I went about 2 miles, tried to get used to gears some.  I can tell that I am more comfy on a hill standing, when we are in spin class we stand at least 1/2 hour of the time.  I am just used to it, however not on a bike that will wobble and fall over ! lol

So I did quite a few hills around here that are on my normal run route (well one of the two).  I made it up all of them ! PHEW.......

So I rode about 20 minutes, some just around the house and then some on that route...... the bike is not perfect, but it will do.  I may have them put on the fabric type cages so that I can do more than push down on the pedal.......... but i've never looked into that .

thats great Julie...just keep riding...the more you ride...the more comfortable you will be come race day! 20 minutes is a great start!

not sure I know what a fabric type cage is! you mean toe clips??? with a strap?

no, I meant like the type that are on my spin bike.  the toe goes into the strapy deal and you can pull up and forward ish when your foot is in them. Wonder if they make those for bikes that are not spin bikes..........  I would never want to add any weight to my bike LORD KNOWS......so metal cages are so not gonna happen.

Julie, I had horrible problems with my elbows when I first started riding a bike again! It's definitely a stresspoint. Two things - adjust the handlebars so they are as high as they can possibly go. If they can't go any higher, I'd recommend those extender handle thingy's everyone's using now to convert from MTB to cruiser. They come as clip-ons and look sort of like little cattle horns sticking up off the handlebar. More places to change your grip will help a lot. Second thing - you might try lowering your saddle just a half centimeter or even a whole centimeter. That little bit probably won't make much difference to your knees, but may save your arms! Leaning is all about having those hips too high and hands too low. MTB fitting should be saddle low anyway so you can get your bum up on the bumps! Ride! Ride! Ride! to strengthen your arms and improve your handling so you can relax your grip! Have fun, Trish

thanks for the ideas Trish !  I just think since I have tennis elbow I'm screwed when it comes to the bike.......  I'd like to have it worked on /mri etc........but not willing to do it until the June tri is over. lol.  I wanted to do one this month but was not used to my bike, so knew it would be stupid to try it without knowing how my bike works ! lol

Offthegrid - 2009-04-01 6:21 PM I broke my weight loss barrier!!!! I'm officially in the 180s baby!!!! I woke up this morning to try out housemate's new scale. 187.0. Really? 187? Really? Really? I thought I would cry or something, but I was a little in disbelief. At the Y, it was 189. And then at Weight WAtchers tonight, it was 189.8, so the three scales confirm it! (I've *never* been below 192 as an adult, and I'm now around the weight I was in 7th grade. My highest was 270. Dieters on another forum call what I experienced the Bermuda Triangle of weight loss.) And now, I'm 2 pounds away from my Weight Watchers 10% goal -AND- from no longer being classified as "obese" but merely as "overweight." (I was "morbidly obese." And, it's like ... there are all these new and exciting changes emerging, but also a little trepidation. So, first the exciting changes. I tucked in my undershirt this morning, and I LOOKED GOOD. I mean, I looked hawt. I could totally see myself actually tucking in a shirt for the first time in my life. My PF pain is better. My thighs are getting so much smaller. All of my pants are loose again, except the fake Size 10s. My body is literally shrinking a lot! It's like, holy cow, I'm not fat! The trepeditation. I guess I'm like, "OK, so I made my goal that I've been striving for forever. Now what?" And I know the answer is to just keep doing what I'm doing and not sweat it too much. I set a goal to weigh 175 by July 26 of this year. And, I could then strive for another 10% at WW, which would get me under 170. And then, who knows? I guess I'll just keep eating healthy, and whereever I stop losing weight is probably where I'll declare goal. Also, I know Easter is coming up, and I am worried that if I eat anything real starchy - like a gluten-free cake - that I will eat out of control. And I'd like to get past that, but I also don't want to eat 5 pieces of gluten-free chocolate cake. Maybe I'll take a ton of fresh fruit and have some chocolate - regular chocolate, not cake - instead. I think I'd be in better control of that. Anyhow, it was an AWESOME day for me! Edited for dumb typo. (As opposed to a smart typo.)

SOOOOOOOO awesome Susie! congrats on the new you!

as for Easter....eat before you go and try and stay away from the food table! and fruit is a great idea! I am soo proud of you!

how is the new pad!? sleeping well? able to get up and not be ATTACKED!

KEEP IT UP! you are an inspiration to us all!

Offthegrid - 2009-04-01 6:24 PM Also, it will be the first holiday I've seen my family since last Easter, because of the issues with my soon-to-be-ex-husband and my brother and some stuff around there. I don't think the extended family, other than my grandmother, know that I'm getting divorced. So, there will be a LOT of stress on that day for me. But, then again, better than being alone with STBX and missing my family.

good luck! hoping the family will be supportive for you! if not...remember you have us...your new BT family! i will be pushing some great healing relation vibes your way! I know how important they can be! and know that if things do work out...there is another GREAT chapter to add to your book!

I LOVE the new place. Love it, love it, love it, love it.

Now if I could get get STBX to put the cable in his name and get the car inspected and tell how the mileage so I can send in the registration. :/ (The cable's the easy one to solve; I'm talking to the lawyer tomorrow about the other.)

OK, everyone, I need some opinions.

I'm on STBX's cell phone plan. I get him a 17% discount, but regardless, he's going to cancel my $10 line. (while I pay the mortgage, taxes, utilities, health insurance, car loan & insurance, etc. etc. etc.)

I'm reluctant to try to go without a cell phone, because there's no house phone here. I *might* consider Skype or something like that, though.

I really want an iPhone, but I don't want to get one now because of the monthly cost.

I'm reluctant to GET a regular cell phone plan, because I want that iPhone and I'd be under contract and would have to wait 2 years to get one.

And I think if I get a pay-as-you-go phone, it'd add up to be a high monthly cost similar to the iPhone.

I've been thinking on it for a week, and I'm still not sure what I want to do.

Thoughts?

you can find some cheap plans thru AT&T and that who offers the plans for iphones...or like you said do the pay as you use it phones. I pay $40 a month but just upped it so I could have the web. I own a treo now...but soon to buy an iphone. Im with you...been wanting one for some time now! good luck!

Oh, and MORE news: I found out the MS-150 bike ride is the weekend *before* Lake Placid this year. So I could do this ride if I wanted. And I kinda want to.

The problem? I can't read cut sheets, and I don't know anyone who would ride along at my slower-than-dirt pace. Maaaaybe my roomie, but she will probably want to do the double century, and I would probably go for 50 miles/day option, or 75 at the max.

So more to think about.

Dh and I are cheap ! lol  So we use cheap phones we got from ebay and then we pay as we go on verizon (like the cards at walmart only we do it automatic).  We pay around 20$ per month and if we get too low, it will automaticlly add like $5.00.

We had one phone that was given to us by a guy who could not get service (it's an older verizon flip phone, and dh got two more one for his mom and one for me for CHEAP on ebay). we also have car chargers as well.

we have no plan, and dh loves it that way (of course we can't get cute ring tones, or fancy stuff.......but they call who I want when I want)
