Jen it will be worth it!!! Probably like me it is just a monkey you HAVE to get off your back. I fantasized about it at least a year before deciding to do it and then there was NO turning back. It felt very overwhelming the last 3 months or so... |

Although I won't be able to qualify, I am going to do what I can to hook up with a charity. Should Boston be a mentor group target race? I was thinking about it anyway but this has pushed me over the edge but I want to qualify so I can use my slot for my daughter's 501C and not one of the one's selected by John Hancock. I got the age group bonus this year moving to sub 3:25 which is 7:49/mile pace. Considering most of my easy runs lately are in the 8:25 to 8:55 pace for 7 to 10 miles where discounting the first mile I'm running consistently even at the end in the mid 140's and this is always after some type of cycling workout often with intervals thrown in is it out of the question that I could achieve this pace this fall building up my volume enough? According to VDOT I should be able to but it just seems so fast for so long. |

According to VDOT I should be able to but it just seems so fast for so long. You should be able to do it with enough volume. You have the same issue I have, the ability to do it but trying to find and execute a marathon to get a qualifying time before the race sells out (which will likely be instantaneous). The race will open for regsitration in early September, meaning you need to run a qualifying marathon by August. If you decided to run focus from here until August and ran an August marathon, I think its a real possiblity. |

Having June and August HIMs there's no way I can pull off. I was thinking if I went with higher run volume this reason and didn't do the really long runs until after the August HIM I could pull it off if I was lucky. |

Last year because 2012 was so hot and people didn't get their rollovers so it actually did reach into October. I'm not sure what this year's tragic events will do to that. At least if they open it to everybody I'll have a shot in the dark. |

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I know that lots of people feel moved to donate in the wake of what happened in Boston on Monday. While the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has set up a One Fund to benefit victims, I'd like to suggest a few other options to people who may be interested (personally, I always prefer donating to organizations with specific missions rather than unallocated general funds): Donations to the trauma centers and trauma programs that treated victims of the attack: Massachusetts General Hospital Donations to organizations that help individuals with disabilities, loss of limbs and trauma compete in endurance events: Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF has specifically created a grant fund for victims of Boston) Achilles International (helps people with disabilities -- including the loss of limbs -- participate in mainstream athletics) Edited by kaburns1214 2013-04-18 6:06 AM |

The Red Cross actually soured me after the whole 9/11 debacle and their general fund. I had to push my brick workout to this evening. Was pouring rain outside this morning. We have had a 30% chance the last three days and everyone of them we have gotten rain at the house. |

Crazy tragedy here in Texas. A fertilizer factory exploded in West. This is a pic from Arlington which is a 2 hour drive from West. Apparently the explosion leveled about 500 homes, a nursing home, an apartment complex and a school.

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED My heart goes out to the families in West Texas. These castrophies seem to keep getting closer and closer. As you all know Cayden's soccer team was right by where the first bomb went off and one of the dads who took them took over 100 pictures which he sent into the FBI\BPD and there was enough in the pictures that they drove out to Marshfield at 7PM, 20 miles, and didn't leave until after 9PM. We took their kids so he could talk with them. They asked questions about time, his camera time wasn't set, and worked off of the marathon clock to get as close as they could. Hopefully it helps them. Recovery workout today. |

It's a fertilizer factory. They haven't really figured it out yet. Also apparently the news report I read WAY over estimated the number of homes destroyed. More like 60.
Still they use fertilizer to make homemade bombs. Something to do with the ammonia put off. Supposedly a crazy powerful explosion. |

Regular 211 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I had another trip to the doctor today about my ongoing sinus issues, and he said he thought allergy-related inflammation of my sinuses is making it difficult for the antibiotics to get at the infection. Sigh. He gave me some more, stronger, steroids (hope I don't get sent to doping control after my May 5 event!) and said he thought they'd reduce the inflammation and let all the little beasties drain out (yuck!). He also said there's no particular reason why I can't exercise, but that I should only do what I feel, and not push myself (which is pretty much what you all told me also). That being the case, I'm going to go back to Masters tomorrow morning. Wonder if they'll remember me. I certainly have a lot of sympathy for those of you who have had long-term health/injury issues that limit your ability to train. Mine isn't nearly as serious as most of yours, but it's still just killing me not to be able to exercise! |
