I did a boot camp workout today. Pretty much my first workout in 2 weeks, and it felt awesome! I did some push ups that I probably shouldn't have done, but it didn't really hurt the pinky, so I think it's fine. It's a great way to start my day tough. Think I'm going to try to run tomorrow morning (it will be painful!), but I'm going to the Os game tonight so it will depend on how much crappy light beer I decide to drink :-P

It's ON! Dave I love this idea. Let's put a vote together and see what everyone can agree on for a style. As much as I'd love to brew five different 5 gallon batches , maybe we can pick one style friendly to everyone?

Are you going for the summer or just a trip? We still need to get together for a bike ride and a beer.

Thor That ride with your son looks absolutely epic! What a fantastic experience. So cool that you got the little guy riding too especially with climbs like that!

Dave Can't tell you how great it is to hear you found the ol mojo again! It's always going to have ups and downs but that little voice - that's what's important!

Congrats Dave O!

Welcome back Dave Q!

I have my first race Sat and am pretty unprepared. I did get up early and find my dusty from two summers ago wetsuit and do a 1000m lap at the res. I'll do it again Thursday and call that good for swim training. There's nothing I'm going to do at this point.

Have fun at the game. I'll be watching on TV at home as our two teams battle it out for last place in the AL East... Ugh. At least Camden is a great place to catch a game! Plus, and I suppose this is normal for EVERYONE except those at Fenway, the beer vendors come to you. It may be crappy beer but you can buy 4 16oz bottles at a time.

John thanks for the advice on the clone. I use Northern Brewer quite a bit.

Dave O- Nice race!

Devon- you will love the 910. Its a great watch.

Thor - that looks awesome, well not the bears but the rest

Nicole- hope that finger is healing

Sorry for my absence I needed some time after my test. It was VERY hard, ridiculously hard. I was furious when I walked out. I went on my run after then went back to see my score which was a 78. That may change as people are allowed to challenge questions so it may go up. I'm not sure if I made the cut off or not as they have not told us what the cut off score is. The highest score I have heard was an 84 with most being in the 60's. Like I said the test was ridiculous. I won't know for a few weeks.

Ok on to training. I skipped a run and swim monday to get things done, but I pulled it together today and got in a good bike and run. Did a bike with my daughter also and went to pool with her. She trained a little I just played with her.

I did brew a double IPA which is fermenting well can't wait till its done.

I think you pointed out a flaw in my training plan. Although I made sure that I had beer in the house, I didn't go out of my way to get a Special beer to celebrate. I think I owe myself a trip to the beer distributor (archaic Pennsylvania beer purchasing facility). I'll let you know what I get. To answer your question though, I had quite a few Yuengling Lagers that night.

That gives me an idea. I have about 2 months to my planned Tri. It seems to me that I should have a fresh batch of homebrew kegged and ready to go for me to drink at night following the big race. I'll have to see if I can do that tomorrow night. That would be fun. I'm thinking of doing the following partial.....what do you think?

Hops
2 oz Spalt Select (1 oz during steep for 45 minutes; 1 oz during steep for 5 mins)

Steep
0.75 lbs German Munich
0.5 lbs Belgian Caravienne

Boil
4 lbs Amber Malt Extract
3 lbs Light Malt Extract

Yeast
Safale 05

It's an Octoberfest style beer. I'll just celebrate early. Opinions?

It was a fun time, but not a very exciting game. I love going to Camden Yards though. There are very few bad seats. Unfortunately, I was high enough to duck when the helicopters flew by...the beer vendors rarely make it up to us. I had a Summer Shandy (Leinenkugels (sp?)) though, so I was quite content.

Glad you had a good time and got a decent beer! Baseball fans might argue that a 1-0 win for the home team is a very exciting game, but I hear ya - no scoring and no baserunners gets boring quickly... But hey - O's win!

What a brilliant idea! Especially when you have to go find a distribution warehouse to get beer normally, what better celebratory beer than one you brewed yourself! I'm totally stealing the idea, I'll have the Imperial Blonde brewed Sunday ready to go before my first tri July 26th. That'll be my celebratory beer for my first ever tri!

Scott - glad the exam is over with! Sounds like even though it sucked butt you were pretty close to the head of the class there. So although it might not feel like it, or even make the cut, it sounds like you rocked it compared to most.

Great job on exam! When the average is in 60's, perhaps they should give you guys better direction of what they want.

Great to see some father daughter training! they grow up super fast!

Not sure if you are interested but I picked up a couple of one piece tri suits for my kids(7&12) online from Salt Lake City. http://rowdywares.com/

Just received, so they will be put through the paces in the next month!

Just checking in...

I finally feel like I'm back. So often in the last 6 months I've felt more like a fat @55 who has run an IM than an IM who is fat.... Luckily - in the last three weeks, I've finally started to hit my grove. Yesterday I came home after a rough day at work (what else is new) and thought about just crashing on the couch - but that little voice, the one that's been AWOL since IMMT whispered in my ear that Coors lite doesn't taste very good and that I should get my butt to the pool. I've missed that voice! Today - I had a strong swim session where I swam 1500 and did 16 50 yard repeats all under a minute. I had to push - but it felt good! Tonight, I'm heading out for a ride so I can end my wife's year end faculty party.

On a personal note - 4 more days at work - 2.5 with kids. This has been the toughest year of my life and it's almost over!

I feel like I dropped the ball on the weight loss competition for the month. I'd love to get that going in July - or figure out how to do something on a weekly basis. Maybe a weekly contest where the winner gets to post a brag in their signature for all to see... I myself have lost 8 pounds and am hoping to leave the 220's behind this weekend!

Have a great one everyone!

DQ!!!
Really glad to hear things are looking up for you Dave! you have always been there for us, a group of complete strangers who are spread across the planet.

I am still in for any weightloss challenge, I am having huge issues keeping on top of this, and it is somethig that will literally kill me eventually if I dont get a handle on it!

My 5K run is this weekend, first race of the year, I did a 5K on Saturday to ensure that the run would be fine, and it will be. I have been playing ultimate frisbee and ball hockey all week and I am planning a short run tomorrow, looking forward to it.
