![]() | ![]() JoePetto - 2012-08-14 2:28 PM Need a consult. My Achilles is acting up a bit. Nothing serious just some tendinitis. Feels fine when warmed up, but after sitting for a while it gets pretty cranky. Going to scale back some of the running this week as it is a down week on my plan. Been icing and stretching as well.Question: Am I better off running on the treadmill as I nurse my Achilles back due to the evenness of the tread and its more forgiving nature? Joe, I've been dealing with this as well. Lower mileage while training for the HIM helped a lot. The only other thing I would say is ice it in the evening. It helps. As for the treadmill, I have no idea if that helps or not. Edited by chris2533 2012-08-14 3:55 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() JoePetto - 2012-08-14 2:30 PM Andy - Without seeing your HR during your run it is impossible to say whether you went out too hard. How did it feel based on PRE? I forgot to wear my HRM, I thought about it about a half mile in and wished I had it. I felt that the 4 miles I did around 9/mile were hard and that I'd have had a hard time doing a 5th mile that fast. Being able to back down for the last 1.5 miles was good. I'll add however that I'm also having one of those days where I'm just not feeling it. My wife woke up at 4 this morning and decided since she couldn't sleep neither should I. I'm going to spend the next two hours in the kitchen baking apple pies. County fair starts Thursday and I need to get them done in time for judging. All my friends say they're that good and I should enter them, the apples come from a tree in our backyard that's perfectly ripe right now. They also have a category for home-made beer, of which I have alot. So I guess I'll have to start opening beers to figure out what's what again (my labeling is less than good). |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got my swim in this afternoon, 3000 yards in 46:46. A good lesson in persistence, I really felt tired and didn't want to be doing it, but was able to force myself to get it done. Today's swim was a warm up then one long 2000 yard endurance set, then a cool down. Ultra boring, even with my music.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Joe, just be very careful that it wont get worse. I had the same, a pain just under the little ankle bone on the inside of my foot. It started 2 weeks before my HIM run. After it continued even with short runs. I needed to rest/stop running for 6 weeks to let it heal. I would hate that to happen to anyone that enjoys running.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ran on the beachfront in Corpus Christi this morning very early (4:30AM) and had the scare of my life, around mile two some gangsters got out of their car in front of me as I was aproaching them and positioned themselves around the trail sorta like trying to ambush me. I don't know what deterred them because they ended up doing nothing. My dumb a$$ should have known better, Corpus is famous for its gangs... If you look at my workout, you'll see my HR literally go through the roof in an instant. AndyS 6/B 8/ R 9 Rest 1 Total 23Time 28:06:27 96% Edited by ernestov 2012-08-15 6:13 AM |

I have the same issue with achilles tendonitis. Mine flares up more when I run hard, volume, surface, track, treadmill and road seem to have no effect on mine. It is just when I go anaerobic for an extended period. When mine flares up, I do what you do ice and stretch, and hope my teenaged daughters don't catch me limping. Teenaged girls can be mean |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey gang, Those of you who were over in the dunes this past weekend should have waited an extra week for your trips and come this weekend for the tri in Ludington! I'll be there "racing". Not looking for a stellar performance as the workouts the past two weeks have been less than ideal, but we'll see what happens. Work and family obligations continue to play havoc with any sort of training plan this week. So far I have managed a grand total of 20 mins on my bike, 0 pool hours and 0 running and I'll be surprised if that changes today. |

Ludington would be fun to do, its a great spot for a Tri. We have a volleyball tourney in Carrellton and Our exchange student goes home that weekend. I understand what you mean about live and training. I am just glad I get to stop going to Detroit Metro for a while. |

I didn't realize that there was a Tri up in Ludington until yesterday...also had never been to Ludington until last week. Where do they do the swim? Is it all downtown? (I could go to 3D's website and look but that would be too easy). Agree that it looks like a great location. I too have bee struggling with fmaily, etc., etc. Starting to try to get into a rhythm again from a workout perspective. I have the end of season Tri at Belle Isle in September. Doing the Sprint and will make a game time decision on whether I complete he run portion. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Brick bike and run today. E, glad you're ok. Corpus was a fun tri earlier this season. Winds forced a swim cancellation, but the run course by the bay was beautiful. Going to be on the Velodrome in Frisco this Saturday. I'm excited and nervous. Have to go to a class first. I'll be riding a single speed bike with no brakes, yikes! Andy S 6/B 8/ R 9 Rest 1 Total 23Time 28:06:27 96% |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Completed my scheduled ride today, and that's about all I have to say about that. 71.6 miles in 3:57. Considering a 30 minute swim to stretch out, but landscaping that I've been procrastinating might overrule that.
