462 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business justin- have fun this weekend let us know how it goes thor and john - thx for the kind words. I am upset that the test was far too hard with absolutely no guidance. Had it been on job related task it would have been fine like law, or dept policy but it was on 2 books which are written like college text books. I am pretty sure I made the cut off, but it is very frustrating to put so much effort into reading and studying for a 78. The test was harder than the LSAT which is ridiculous. Got in a good bike and swim today. going to have to do some plan modifications to get everything in do to work schedule changes. I am in for a good octoberfest. I'll do the recipe but I'm going to go with Wyest 2633 octoberfest and lager it till the first week in october then I'll keg it to be ready after my IM. I now have 3 friends from work doing the half for beach to battleship so I may have a little cheering section. question for the group. I have heard that putting a little baking soda in your bottles on the bike will help with lactic acid build up. Anyone heard of this? |

New user 669 Madrid | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Scott, never heard of it - may be other experts in the group have experience. Happy to hear the test is over. I understand very well now how difficult it is to go back to good, consistent training once you have reached your season goal, which may have been to early. Now I am working out 3 days per week, half of what I was doing - and traveling does not help. But yesterday, after a long flight, arrived in Chicago and got my running shoes on for 1h run in the lake front, beautiful run with lots of runners and great weather. Afterwards, had dinner with beautiful Sophia and friends as suggested, here is the proof: Juan (BDAS is also of great help when traveling!) 1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Have fun at your 5k, Justin!! Juan!! Good to have you stateside!! Hi all! a quick check-in before bed. A double yesterday and a brick today, another planned for tomorrow. Yesterday I had a fairly long swim - but sets with some good output so I could feel it. Then I had a reasonable 1.5 hour bike. i was hungry. After dinner the kids were having vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce so I decided to do so too. (I very rarely eat ice cream - I love it, I just never really eat it, never buy it). Anyway, I love to mash peanut butter into my vanilla ice cream and put a little chocolate sauce on top - pure heaven - and I even had a few M&M's to throw on. It was lovely. About 2 hours later I downed a 16oz water and instantly felt nauseous. ??What??Why?? I headed toward bed really feeling yucky and sure enough, around 23:00 last night my evening's consumption vacated the premises. I know, TMI, but I had no idea what was going on - why that would happen. All I can think of is with fairly clean eating and the heavy workout maybe it was too rich, too much for the body to handle. Blech. I won't make that mistake again. I thought maybe I now have a sensitivity to dairy - I have eaten very little dairy recently (except cream for my coffee). I don't think so but the body can work in mysterious ways!! LOL So.....no crazy rich ice cream toppings for me for a while.. Anyway, I still got my workout in today - maybe not quite as strong but it all felt good. Supposed to go to camp this weekend but it's in the town just south of where those two escaped murderers were just spotted. Awesome. I'm supposed to do a 3 hour bike ride while I'm there. Let me tell you....it's remote, and hilly. I'm trying to convince my husband maybe we should stay home this weekend - though he says we can't live in fear...(.I agree, but personally, I'd rather not be where they may be..by myself...on a bike...without my gun...) Cat scat that would be scary. Oh, lots of flooding around here with the rains. I did a 30 minute ride to work on aero position today (maybe half in aero) and had to slow way down to go through a few inches of water probably 20-30 feet across. I felt like a little kid again riding through puddles!! Remember that?! Ah memories. Cheers all! |

Veteran 732 Pittsburgh, PA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Originally posted by justinfss Originally posted by Qua17 Just checking in... I finally feel like I'm back. So often in the last 6 months I've felt more like a fat @55 who has run an IM than an IM who is fat.... Luckily - in the last three weeks, I've finally started to hit my grove. Yesterday I came home after a rough day at work (what else is new) and thought about just crashing on the couch - but that little voice, the one that's been AWOL since IMMT whispered in my ear that Coors lite doesn't taste very good and that I should get my butt to the pool. I've missed that voice! Today - I had a strong swim session where I swam 1500 and did 16 50 yard repeats all under a minute. I had to push - but it felt good! Tonight, I'm heading out for a ride so I can end my wife's year end faculty party. On a personal note - 4 more days at work - 2.5 with kids. This has been the toughest year of my life and it's almost over! I feel like I dropped the ball on the weight loss competition for the month. I'd love to get that going in July - or figure out how to do something on a weekly basis. Maybe a weekly contest where the winner gets to post a brag in their signature for all to see... I myself have lost 8 pounds and am hoping to leave the 220's behind this weekend! Have a great one everyone! DQ!!! Really glad to hear things are looking up for you Dave! you have always been there for us, a group of complete strangers who are spread across the planet. I am still in for any weightloss challenge, I am having huge issues keeping on top of this, and it is somethig that will literally kill me eventually if I dont get a handle on it! My 5K run is this weekend, first race of the year, I did a 5K on Saturday to ensure that the run would be fine, and it will be. I have been playing ultimate frisbee and ball hockey all week and I am planning a short run tomorrow, looking forward to it. OK, Justin! Do you want to do a head-to-head challenge for the rest of June? eta: you made mine bold too! Haha I have no idea how to change it. Edited by chayes 2015-06-10 9:51 PM |

Come on man - the masses want to know. What did you wash down that taste of victory with? I think I owe myself a trip to the beer distributor (archaic Pennsylvania beer purchasing facility). HA! So true, PA is way behind the times. But... at least we can get 12-packs at the beer distributor now! The one I go to sells them for exactly half the price of the case, which is nice. |

141 Colorado Springs, Colorado | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Been away from my scheduled workouts for the last few days, been helping my roommate strip, lay rock, lay sod and refence the backyard, on top of working overtime all weekend. I've been a little beat lately. Hopefully will be able to get back on it tomorrow. Hope everyone else is having a great week. |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Jenn Stay safe! Juan Awesome beer choices! Color me jealous! Devon and Scott The bad workouts happen, the missed workouts happen when life gets in the way. The more important thing is to keep going, get the next workout, get some rest, you know, all that jazz. And again I say this as much to myself, since last night was supposed to be a run-swim double, but the swim didn't happen (not enough time, and too much soreness in the hips). Today's a rest day, tomorrow is my 2nd scheduled swim of the week, so I'll just have to kill it then. |

423 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business I've been absent for a long while but I have been reading posts via email updates. A lot of action on the forum recently, which is great to see everyone so involved in their sport, even if it's just thinking and talking about it when there is no time to train. I haven't been posting much because I feel a little weird being a part of a triathlon forum when I'm not even doing any triathlons this summer (I'm spending 10 days and a buttload of money in Chicago for a bike bike race series in July so my wife has put a moratorium on any events outside priority cycling events. With me not working right now, it seems only fair :P) On a beer related note, my new apartment is in a really trendy hipster neighbourhood in Ottawa (I'm sure there are some eye rolls but I have to admit, I love hipsterdom) and there are a number of craft breweries within a 3 minute bike ride. Beyond the Pale is the closest and they make a delicious beer called Rye Guy. I also went on a brewery tour with my wife and grandparents last weekend at the Muskoka Brewery. It was unlimited free samples. Their popular beers are Detour, Mad Tom IPA and Muskoka Craft Lager. There are some beers that they only sell through the brewery, such as the Mad Tom IPA aged in whiskey casks. So delicious. Anyways, here's what almost last place looks like. :P (blown.jpg) Attachments ---------------- blown.jpg (942KB - 3 downloads) |

Btw you look more bada$$ in near last than most of us would look in first. Can't wait to hear the reports from the Chicago races! Also it's awesome you live so close to good beer. My closest craft brewery is very good but at least 10 miles away, only open on Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons, and perpetually crowded in the very small tap room. |

Just my two cents but I would plan my bike training around these two days, 10 out and 10 back with carbloading in between or even better start from brewery and do an out and back.... |

There's a few locations for Nate's Deli but I think the original is on Sparks st. And yea, it definitely had some distinct whiskey flavouring. It was delicious. There's another brewery about half hour up the road. The Lake of Bays Brewing Company. I recommend everyone do the Muskoka half iron. What more could you want than a tri in the heart of cottage country with two awesome breweries within 30min of each and the IM course. Edited by adempsey10 2015-06-11 5:31 PM |

Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Well rolled my ankle on Monday at beginning of run and ran anyways...now I have pretty much done nothing the rest of the week..stupid. Might try a short run tonight or tomorrow for sure. On positive side of things, I am buying a 24" mountain bike for my soon to be 8 year old daughter! She has been stuck getting hand me downs from her brother so it will be her first new bike...as long as she doesn't sprout up too quickly, it should last her for a few years! |

462 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business thor- nice. All my daughter gets are hand me downs from her best friend (who's mother is my wife's best friend). 3:30 bike on trainer today followed by a 30 min run. It was very humid and hot, I was miserable but just then a light drizzle started like God was sending me a cool wet towel. Gotta love those kinds of runs. |

Scott, 3:30 on trainer then 30 minute run...you are a better man than me! Nice job on the brick! Well celebrated my birthday on weekend by driving 3 hours+ to the mountains to redo the ride I did last weekend. There was some snow the night before at highter altitudes...coming down was freezing!! Reward was a stop for beer and nachos at Brewster's(brewpub). Ankle still bothering me for running. Tried on Sunday with daughter... First tri of season this weekend! 141 Colorado Springs, Colorado | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Had the chance to get back on my bike today for the first time with my 910xt. Was aiming for a nice and easy 50 miles today, had my HRM to keep me in zones 2 and 3. Got 40 miles in before the sky decided to come crashing down. Just barely missed the torrential downpour. Definitely was a challenge at times keeping my HR under zone 4, guess that's what training with a monitor will help improve though. Hope everyone had a great weekend! |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Hello! It's been a while for posting but I've tried to be good and keep up with everyone's posts. I had a few doubles last week and on Saturday I put on my big girl panties and biked up Smuggler's Notch (past our ski area) and back for my last long ride (did 54+). Between the up and back I had 3,940' of elevation gain. My quads were fatigued to say the least. I pulled off for 5 minutes on the way up to stretch my quads and calves so my actual moving time up I think was 2:03 (for only 27 miles that seems slow - and it is). There were multiple class 3,4, & 5 climbs and strung out together with not much of a break. I stopped at the top to stretch, use the port-o-john, and check in with the hubby to let him know I made it. I stopped my watch too and restarted for the ride home so it looks like two separate workouts. I finally picked up an Aerofil system for my shorty Jammer GT's and what a game changer!!! I am so pleased!! I consumed at least 30 ounces of fluids including a Skratch Labs packet in there and other than tired legs form the crazy climbing, I felt great when I got home - none of the usual edema I get in my right ankle! Really, really pleased. I wore my tri shorts and really worked aero position when I could, still trying to get comfortable. My sit bones were absolutely crying - can you say saddle sores?? No open wounds, fortunately. If I'm in the aero position - the seat is super comfortable, but if I'm in a traditional cycling position it's best to have some nice cycling shorts with good padding - then it's tolerable. I'm not sure where the happy medium is, but i'll have to suck it up buttercup for the race. I do love the saddle when I'm in aero position though - just have to get stronger there so I can ride it more! Lots of pictures below. The last one has the messages the boys wanted to write on my arms to encourage me along this tough ride. The first is at the top of the Notch, and the second is just a pretty picture I stopped to take on the ride home. 1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Oh, forgot to mention - I didn't have a celebratory beer after that ride, but I did have a double Grey Goose martini with olives that evening! Yesterday was my husband's and my 13th anniversary. He has a thing with nostalgia - and therefore Schlitz beer (hard to come by here). Here are our beverages for cocktail hour (followed up by a lovely Bordeaux with dinner)..... I think Schlitz should be an even worse penalty than a Coors Light penalty.... Schlitz---that is nasty stuff! Devon great job getting back on the bike for a ride. 40 miles is better then bailing and having no ride! Juan-yeah snow. Good reason to have a beer though... How is everyone's training coming? I know it can become a grind around this time...the tri romance slips away. Take a step back, reload and get going! Cheers! |
