Fine here I am....Tony must be taking pictures of tourists!!
I've been trying to get a condo for an out of town Tri for the middle of July.  Nice little town 3 hours from here. Nice beach oh ya. Taking a week off around that time, so deciding where we are going.
See how busy I have been?

OK all, I have to tell it.  Personal milestone in the pool today - 1/2 mile continuous swim!  I know it doesn't sound like much compared to the yardage some of you put up, but considering 3 months ago, I was doing 100 yards at a time and was wiped out after each one, I am extremely happy!

Great job man, those of us that didn't swim competitively as kids have to start somewhere.  You just keep building up those milestones until you feel you can swim all day.

dalessit - 2009-06-18 8:42 AM ugh, forecast for next 10 days, rain and thunderstorms...

Was going to get up at 0600 this morning to do my tempo run but the lightning outside kept me from doing it.  Don't mind the rain but lightning tends to make me stay in bed.

Also was reading up more on that Marathon Challenge from runnersworld.  Did you see their 16 week plan?  First 6 weeks no speedwork the speedwork days were switched to hills, 5-7 miles of hills.

Interesting reading up on it.  Basically he said the hills get you more bang for the buck vs a LSD run.  I do try to run hills but might try to really add it to my marathon program.

Oh and I think we are pretty much set on Lonestar, we like the bike profile _____________________

Andy:

I don't look at as if I am a slow swimmer. (Glass 1/2 empty) Rather, I have LOTS of room for improvement!  (Glass 1/2 full). Am will probably see more results working on my swim right now than anything else.

While I will ease up somewhat next week for the tri on saturday, the next one is only 2 weeks later with my first OWS and a longer distance to boot. So I will probably keep at a target of 6000 yds/week swimming.

My parents are coming to town today, so I will have to work around their visit to keep up my training. I am hoping for an hour on the bike tonight and 1/2 hour strength and yoga.

Tomorrow early AM is a run and then another PM bike.

I have no plan per se right now just trying to work my weaknesses while building speed and endurance.

BTW: Does tdk.teacher know that he is boosting our page count? I blame him for interfering. Now we have to start over again! Laughing

It is funny we have so many pages and quite amazing that most of them revolve around training.  There was a group last time that crushed us on page count but whenever I looked at their posts it was mainly chit-chat like you see in the challenge forums.

So suzy what do you do for Marathon nutrition and fueling?

I realized I have gotten really slack this year and doing everything off reserves which isn't a good idea and really not possible in a Marathon which would be the longest event I have done.  I am really shooting for right around 4hrs(would love to be just under but not counting on it for my first)

I have no problem with gels while running, I stick with chocolate ones, which is funny because I normally am not a chocolate fan but other gels taste too sweet and fake where chocolate gels just taste like chocolate.

I can drink from a squirt bottle while running, but pretty much have to come to a stop to drink from a cup or I just splash it everywhere.

I have used sport beans and some other shot block type stuff also and they all seem fine also.

While I guess I could just go with the solid foods, I really don't want to have to carry them for 26 miles.  I ran my 1/2 with a fuel belt with 2 small bottles of accelerade one gel at the 6.5 mile mark and some sports beans every mile or so.

I thought about infinit but obviously can't carry enough for the whole race, maybe could do some conentrated stuff and squirt into cup but then I pretty much have to walk to drink it.

Official training starts in a few weeks and I want to use the nutrition for the whole plan so trying to get a plan figured out.

Andy-- Awesome achievement.   I know, for me, 800 continuous swimming was a huge mental block that I had to get past, but once I finally did it, any distance suddenly seemed do-able.  Congrats!

Suzy and Tracy, can we see some proof of registration for these upcoming events?  Receipts would be nice, too!

Tracy, 75 miles sounds sooooo far.  I am supposed to do another brick this weekend...and I shorted last weekend's 3.5 hour ride to 3 hours.  I'll try to go the whole 3.5, since you are not going to bail at 50.

Good luck Trevor!  You are so ready!
