Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Speaking of training, I did my first brick workout of the season. Just a short 2 mile run after my 4.5 mile bike commute to work this morning. My legs surprised me and I was in my running stride within less than a half mile. Looking forward to my first tri of the season in just 1.5 weeks! |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Hi All! Wow - 3:30 trainer rides, 'easy' 50 milers, and multiple mountain climb rides.... I'm not worthy!! I did two bike run bricks this weekend (not ideal, I know, the first one doesn't really count), and in total rode 18 miles over the two days. Juan - "I need a couple beers to believe this" - I like the way you think!!! Training - I'm pretty well in the 6 day/week workout groove. I've started PT for my back/hip issues, and conveniently have appointments not only after work but before scheduled workouts. Thursday I start a 6 week small group Sprint Triathlon training which I am absolutely psyched for! The 6 weeks take me right up until my first Tri. Races - 1st race of any kind is the Fathers Day 5k I'm doing this coming Sunday. Can't wait! Beer - had a couple great double IPAs I've not had before on Sunday. Sierra Nevada's Hoptimum and Boulevard Brewing's The Calling. Both were fantastic and both are very different from one another. Followed those up with another Heady Topper. What a great beer day! Also that was my reward for an 8.3 mile bike ride followed immediately by a 4.5 mile interval run workout. Burned enough calories doing those that a few double IPAs was totally warranted |

189 Quakertown, Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Check-in I had a few workouts since my last post. I tried out a new trail on my N+1 bike since I knew my thinner tires on the primary couldn't handle it. This was my first good ride on N+1 and I found a few gear changing issues I'll have to fix. Overall it was a nice 18 mile ride. I'll have to do the trail again but take it further this time. There is a nice climb over Spring Mount that I need to make my white whale. Life has also been happening and getting in the way of my training, so I've been a little disappointed in myself. Today I forced myself to go swimming even though I didn't want to. I hopped in the pool and started swimming with the thought of "long slow distance" on my mind. My legs felt good, my arms felt good, I stopped at 1 mile only because of the lovely round number. I have no idea just how far I could have gone. There's my Oly distance. I really needed this confidence booster. Jenn Congrats on the ride. You choose properly by letting the hubby drink the Schlitz. I love the comments on the arms idea. I'll have to do that with the kids for my Oly. It'll be nice having them with me. Thor Good Luck Man! Kill it! Justin How'd the 5K go? |

Good luck for your Race this weekend! So first race is in the books, 5 K went great, great day great race 33:08 was my chip time, my wife beat me by 50 seconds, so she is now not only the better looking, smarter, funnier half of our matrimonial union but also the faster of the two of us, good inspiration to train for the next one to beat her! 1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business We gave her a leap pad to play with, though truthfully she spent most of the time looking at the scenery and telling me about birds and waterfalls. The bike trail we went to is gorgeous - runs along the Blackstone River in northeastern Rhode Island, and almost entirely road-free. |

Always nice to train with like minded people! Dave O: Somedays you need an extra 6 hours in a day to complete everything especially when you are active! Do what you can and move on! You will do fine at your Oly! Justin: Great job on the race! Nice of you to boost your wife's confidence and let her win by 50 seconds... We used to have a chariot for our kids...loved it. Moved to tag along bike...not so good on road bike... I think Kate posted a cross between a chariot and a tag along that looked pretty cool somewhere waayyy back...kate where are you?? 1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Originally posted by thor67 John: small group training?? is this part of tri group? class? Always nice to train with like minded people! ...The Y I go to is putting it on (also the Y that's hosting the Sprint I'm doing in 6 weeks). One of the personal trainers is an experienced triathlete and put together a 6 week small group training (6 people) to get us prepped for sprint tri - coaching us thtrough swim, bike, run plus transitions each week along with workouts for the days in between. The Y small group trainings are a pretty good deal - $111 USD per person for the 6 weeks. Most of them are an hour a week, and they have them for basically anything you might work with a personal trainer one on one, but for up to 6 people to keep the cost per person down. Mine will be longer than an hour each week, so I get extra personal trainer time for free First class is tonight, I've got my tri bag all packed up. We're doing 20 mins of laps in the outdoor pool, then 30 mins on the spin bikes, then a track workout (hopefully outdoors, the indoor track is very tight at only 100m). This will be my 2nd wetsuit swim but the first in my own gear, a DeSoto speedvest and Roka Sim shorts. Went with the shorts so I could use them indoors and not cook, and I still have a few weeks before needing to decide if they'll be ok for the race (if wetsuit legal) or if I want to go with the SpeedTube pants or the bibs. The DeSoto setup is nice since it gives me flexibility to mix and match tops and bottoms. I'll give a report back as to how the combo performs in the outdoor pool tonight. |

Member 3109 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Hi all!!!!!!! it has been crazy busy in here while I was gone! I just spent two hours catching up on posts. Congrats to all who have been racing, especially the first timers!! Sorry to hear about injuries, but all look to be healing well, so that is good! Spent another hour updating my training log for the time I was gone. It was a good trip with lots of research success. I hiked to the top of a desert mountain, which was awesome. Of course, the descent was rough--I fell off a cliff. Fortunately, I didn't break anything obvious (nearest hospital is 250km away), just bruised over most of my body. This happened the day before my birthday. Good news is that I'm up to 204/400 for the year, so I can start shopping for my new bike guilt free!! As soon as the jet lag tapers off I'm off to the shops! |

Yeah, if it does happen (still waiting on the call, told I was on deck) it would be right downtown, Sparks and Lyon St, in the Transport Canada HQ building. |

256 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business I'm baaaaack!!! But before that....to prove I've caught up and am reading: Dave O: Congrats on your first race and joining the tri club! Thor: Loved the pics of the scenery/goats and your bike with your son. Nicole: I tried a Leinenkugels' (sp?) the other day at Redfish Lake. Refreshing, but a little sweet. I'm getting into hoppy lately. Alan: Welcome back. I've been there with needing a break, but it's nice to get back to the groove. Jenn: Loved the pic of your boys' inspires on your arm. I have an aerofil and LOVE IT....have mostly just used it for races but it's SO nice to be able to sip while moving. Thor: Totally in the tri-romance mode now. :-) I just need to update my log. Gretchen: Welcome back. Only BDA$$'s fall off cliffs biking. Dave Q: Good job on the weight loss. Still at it? Update from me: Have been quiet just because I've been busy....working out among other things. We are currently spending a month in Idaho and I'm really focusing on my fitness/training/vision adjustment. Working out six days a week...swimming most days and alternating biking/running with one day off per week. We have an outdoor saline pool here and swimming laps is just simply....not a chore at all....I feel guilty calling it a workout. Last year I really didn't focus too much on building speed in the pool and am doing the same now...just trying to build endurance and comfort with distance. Biking is going well....lots of wind here to deal with, as well as the elevation (the house is at 5400 feet and we are in a canyon/mountainy area, so all biking involves some sort of elevation gain/loss one way). I tried mountain biking last weekend--as in the hardcore stuff on two foot wide trails--for the first and last time. Not sure I'd ever have loved it but definitely not for me now with depth perception issues. I'll stick with nice wide trails and roads. :-) Running is coming along. It is always tough to get moving forward with running here because of the elevation, several days of adjustment are needed. I had one great run followed by two horrific ones, during one of which I think I might have burned my lungs or something in the dry wind....I got a bronchitis-like condition for a few days, so had to take a break. The drugs I'm on (high levels of antivirals for the eye) tend to make me sick to my stomach in the morning too, which affects the way I feel on the runs and unfortunately makes them difficult to do. But I ran about a 5K yesterday in 29 minutes and felt much better, so will start increasing distance tomorrow. If the next week of training continues to go well, I'm entering two races in July (the 11th & 18th). Have been planning on these but wanted to make sure the lungs recovered from whatever it was. I'll start posting pics of my training soon...it really is gorgeous here. :-) And lots of really good beer. Tomorrow: Ketchum brewfest! Can't wait! Keep at it everyone. Sandi |

Member 3109 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business 205 & 206/400 this morning. Started with a short run with the dog during a break in the rain. The humidity was brutal--I'd forgotten what it is like to run with moisture in the air! Between that and the dog sniffing every blade of grass along the route because it is her first run in a month, the time was a little slow, but it was a good first workout back. Immediately after I pulled out the yoga mat and the pup helped me with a 30min strength based class. She loves to lick me while I'm stuck in weird poses! Headed to the bike shop this afternoon to start investigating my local options. I have a suspicion that I will have to go to the city to get a bike that fits my height/size, but I sure would rather do it locally if possible. |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Sandi! Welcome back! Can't wait to see Idaho pictures. Gretchen! Welcome back to your workouts! Me - Sprint Tri Group Training last night was awesome as well as a little humbling. We did basically half a Sprint tri. 10 minutes non stop in the outdoor pool, 15 minutes on the spin bike, 15 minutes around the indoor track. Awesome to have the one on one coaching attention, there were only two of us in class last night, with apparently only 4 signed up. And awesome because swimming with the wetsuit was glorious. I did 425 in the 10 minutes which ain't breaking any records but for me - I've never swum crawl more than 200 without stopping before. My bike was great but I'm still suspect that the spin bike is a big fat hairy liar in terms of reported mileage. My run wasn't terrible, I'm hoping it would be faster on the road where I'm not slowing to turn every 25 yards. The thing to keep in mind is I wasn't going all out, but was going probably harder than I would in a race because I knew I was doing it for less time. Next week we're doing the same only increasing each discipline by 5 mins (AGH - SWIMMING FOR 15 MINUTES NO BREAK!!); and then week 3 we'll actually get to bike and run outside. Can't wait for that! |

We've had ours three years and still get a ton of use out of it. It has been amazing! I have sold a ton to friends and strangers we meet on rides. |

141 Colorado Springs, Colorado | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Long day today.. Still doing my base work for a few more weeks, got a 52 mile zone 3 ride in today, felt pretty good minus my shoulder and back getting sore after around mile 40. Came home and continued my run streak(even though I didn't want to at all), well more like struggled through it. Was having to fight to keep my HR under control. Managed to get a few hours of sleep before coming into work. Legs have felt like jello all night. Closing in on 5am now, and it's not looking like I'm going to be leaving anytime soon -.- Hope everyone has a great weekend! |
