Wow, it sounds like most of the parents in this group are sleep deprived.  LOL

Gordon was chasing Fred around the house, and Fred's head hit the wall.  When I went to comfort him, he passed out.  He couldn't stand up and wanted to go to sleep.  Spent a few hours in the ER but all is good now.  He has to see the pediatrician tomorrow morning to get cleared for any sort of activity.  This wasn't the first time I spent the day in the ER (and won't be the last time, because I have 3 wild boys).

He's in good company.  My brother got hit with a line drive today (there was a whole in the net when playing soft toss).  This is now his second concussion in 4 months.

Oh jeez sorry you guys.  It is scary when that happens.  glad they are ok!

My poor brother bit down so hard when he was hit that he chipped his teeth and now needs to have them capped.  They're hoping the chip isn't so big that he'll need root canals as well.

Chics will dig the story.  He'll be fine.

luv2bhealthy - 2013-04-23 10:25 PM I got bit by a dog on my bike ride Sunday. Luckily it was my neighbors digg and it had it's rabies shoot.

Ouch! When I was about 8 a friend got bit by a German Sheppard and that's exactly what his calf looked like.

Concussions are being taken much more seriously these days and the closer together the more serious. We would be better off taking it easy for a bit.

Take those concussions serious please! Jen hope the symptoms have subsided for your son. Kelly hope your brother is feeling better and bummer on the teeth :/

Hope the dog bite is healing up. That looks like it hurt.

Where do you all run, geez? We have wild turkeys, dogs, that cat thing...the only thing I have run across is rabbits and deer and they both run away.

Z3 intervals on the bike for me this morning. Z2/Z1 run later today.

Ouch on the injuries lately...  I hope everyone recovers quickly.

Does anyone here know what x2Perform is and/or how it differes from regular Perform?

It's more a natural energy/endurance supplement than a hydration/nutrition product like Perform.

label

First of all I hate prop blends.  The BIOIDS blend is just that.  Prop blends generally want to sell you on the fact an ingredient is in the blend, but normally it's underdosed so it works less than ideally.  Legally they have to list from largest amount of the substance in the blend to smallest.

So there is 15g of sugars in there.  That's fine.  Many substances need a quick carb to enhance uptake into the system.  But if you notice the first item in the prop blend is glucose.  So how much of the 15.94g of the prop blend is a carb?  Who knows.  D-Ribose has conflicting data from studies.  It is supposed to restore optimum ATP (energy) production to tired muscles.  ATP di-sodium is designed to increase circulating levels of ATP in the blood stream.  It also helps open the arteries wider to increase blood flow.  CoQ10 also has conflicting studies done on whether or not it helps in an endurance setting.  Mostly because most adults aren't deficient in this enzyme, so there is little to no benefit of more.  Caffeine is caffeine.  D-Pinitol is supposed to help with the uptake of glycogen to the muscles.  It has an insulin like effect.

So the idea behind the product is shaky based on the number of iffy ingredients IMO.  Then you add that you don't know if they are in there in effective amounts.  If I had extra cash on hand I might try it, but I think it's just another supplement that falls short.

Ouch!!!!  I'm glad it had its shots and you were able to shake it off.  I'm sorry you had to deal with that.  You can report the dog if you want, but it would probably be the end of your relationship with your neighbor.

Dogs scare me to death when I'm out running and riding.  You never know when they might attack.  Yes, I blame the owners and not the dogs.  Why are there unsupervised dogs running around?  I don't get it.  A couple weeks ago a runner was mauled and almost died on the running path in my hometown.  I won't be running on that path again.

Serious ouch.

Usually a good squirt to the face by a water bottle works.  I just don't understand people who let their dogs run loose.

Just saw my post that needed serious grammer check.  That's what I get for posting with my phone.  lol

The problem was the dogs are normally fenced in and there is also an electric fence, but come to find out, they have found a way to jump it.  So, I am riding up my road when about 5 dogs all come rushing out.  I slow up because there are two who are coming in front of my bike and I don't want to hit one and crash.  So the others start to flank me but one stays behind.  I can hear him, and the next thing I know, I feel his teeth sink into my calf.  He then lets go and runs back into his yard.  I yell because it hurt then got off my bike and walked towards the home hoping someone is there (but of couirse not), and the dog is looking at me and kicking up dirt with his back legs as if to say, "Yeah, I got you!  What are you going to do about it?"  I don't think I could have turned around fast enough with something in my hand to get him.  It all happened very quickly.  Thankfully, he didn't hold and rip!  I did a lot of doctoring and it looks like it will be fine - just a beautiful new scar.

On another note, my first tri of the season is this Sunday.

We are off to Disney in the morning and don't get back until Sunday 5/6 so my participation will be limited to not at all. Overall happy with April especially considering how crazy it was. I didn't hit the cycling mileage I wanted this month but for 25 days still not too shabby. I had planned to get in a run at lunch but with all we have to do to get ready it's not happening. I had a great session on the trainer. Knowing this was it for a while there was no need to hold back. I'm not packing the Garmin or running shoes so there will be no temptation. I do plan on doing my core work every morning. I'll be up an hour before everybody else as usual anyway so it won't interfere with the trip. I could possibly get some swimming in while there but I'm not going to push to get it. My wife puts up with a lot to let me train as much as I do so I told her no training on this trip or the week after we go to Williamsburg for REV3. I'm ahead of last year's totals for biking (ever so slightly) and running (solid 10% higher) but down on swimming (10% but not concerned). So overall I think I'll be in a good place to come back and hit it hard for 7 weeks.

Hope you all have a good end of the month and start of May. Stay healthy!

April's totals:
Bike:21h 05m  - 391.12 Mi
Run:13h 58m 16s  - 95.05 Mi
Swim:6h 25m  - 18000 Yd
Strength:1h 25m
Core Training:5h 02m

I got some new running shoes (Kelly's suggestion) and can't wait to try them out.  Today's run was a speed session so I wasn't going to start there.  May try them out on Sunday's t run.

If the kids' soccer is canceled tonight, then I am taking my daughter to the pool to work on her swimming technique.  Her lessons start next week.  She has 6 weeks until swim team starts, and I want her to go into her first season feeling confident.  Conrad doesn't need the refresher because he swam club last year.  I'm a volunteer for lane timing for the entire swim season.  Should be fun.  Both my kids will swim 8 and under, and I find this group to be too cute.  Nothing puts a smile on my face like watching a 6 year old swimming as hard as they can for 25 meters.  Soooooo darn cute!

Jen that does sound adorable

I am doing relay next week with friends and will be running 20 miles in three legs... should be a lot of fun, but I know I will need some recovery.  I am hoping not to go too hard so I won't be away from tri training too long but I historically don't do that too well.

So there are a couple of lectures/seminars at the University of Southern Maine in June that may be of interest to some of you NE folks.

Psychological Preparation for Competition

Understanding and regulating anxiety in sports competition

The seminars are from 6/26-6/28. Not my area of clinical focus, but I always need CEUs. Maybe I will check it out.

With a bunch of races approaching, I thought I'd share an e-mail I sent Chris about preparing for transitions in a sprint triathlon.  Most people over do transitions and it leads to cluttered transition areas and wasted time.  Here's the e-mail:

Essentially what you are going to do before the race is rack your bike (I'm not sure if Polar Bear has designated rack slots or if its first come first serve -- I'm guessing the race info they send out next week will include that) and arrange what you need for the bike and run next to or on your bike.  This is a sprint, you really just need the basics:

Bike
Helmet
Sun Glasses
Bottle of sports drink on the bike
Bike Shoes (if its going to be cold you may want toe covers on the outside of your shoes)
A long sleeve top (once again if its cold out)
Race belt with your number attached (I have tons of extras and can bring on for you)
Running shoes
Hat for running (if you want one)
Towel (to place all your stuff on)

When you finish the swim you're going to hop out of the pool and run to transition and put on your shoes, long sleeve top, glasses and helmet.  Make sure your bike helmet is on before you un rack your bike.  Run (carefully) to the bike out and mount your bike once you hit the mount line.  Once you're on the bike its all out for the entire ride.

When you come back into transition, dismount before the dismount line.  Run your bike into the transition area and re-rack your bike.  Helmet off, bike shoes off, run shoes on and then head to the run out.  Again, once you're on the run course, its all out.

Nothing complicated.

What a day, what a day. It did not start off well. Couldn't sleep last night (Ran late maybe that is why) Then slept-in past alarm for swim. Now I have have no idea how to fit it in with the kids soccer practice tonight. Been swamped at work all day and will probably be working on the train ride home instead of unwinding.

Scott hope you have a great trip!

As for my first tri...May 19th seems sooooo long away! Next year I will have to find something sooner

Yea it is going to sneak up on me I am sure. Plus I am driving down that morning now instead of staying overnight. It is just over an hour drive and should be that way as long as there is no traffic. Which there shouldn't be that early in the morning on a Saturday.
