swbkrun - 2012-07-25 10:33 AM Jayne not a chick, but if it is not the saddle what type of shorts are you wearing?  I always feel that it very important not to be "cheap" when it comes to bike shorts!!!

I'm rotating between my Sugio tri shorts and a pair of Canari Micro bike shorts.  I have learned that more padding is not necessarily better, and chamois cream is your friend.  Thinking about trying out a couple pair of good quality tri short--any suggestions?

I did try tipping the nose of my seat down just a bit on today's ride, but that just made me feel like I was sliding forward all the time.  Not a solution.

Some saddles the nose is ever so slightly pointed up a bit. I think that is the case with Cobb's. Right John?

I'm back and I survived!  The temps only hit 100F (heat index=107F), but I got the pleasure of unexpected 25mph WNW winds with gusts to 30 to keep me on my toes.  I swear there were times when my insides were cooking and other times when I was gripping the bars so tightly to stay upright my shoulders were crying.  The good news?  My nutrition was spot on and so were my Watts targets even if the MPH were in the tank!

Jayne, I often get a tension headache despite being well hydrated.  I think it's the combination of the heat, my helmet and concetration.  That headache stays with me for hours afterwards.  And I don't have any girly part issues on my long rides. At one point I did and I changed my saddle and bought Castelli bike shorts.  The pad isn't like a diaper, but it is thicker than a tri chamois.  It fits really well and makes me very happy!

John, MLYLT!  I can't believe you had a broken rib all of these months.  And now two broken toes.  Hmm.  How long does it take for broken toes to heal?  Linda?  Anyone?  I am glad you did not crash with the broken seat post.  Geesh.

Jayne, just to add a few more cents, I recall that last year when my rides started to get longer, I had similar saddle issues on the first few 4 hour plus rides.  I started looking for a new saddle, but Suzy recommended getting more bike specific shorts as an alternative...and the ones I got (Assos Lady Fi S5) did the trick.

I wear my Oomph with the distance pad for the HIM distance but anything longer, I go with the Assos.

Every season when I start training the bike hard again, i think my saddle sucks and I need a new one, but mostly it is just getting used to riding again.  So, if I start to complain in a few months, someone remind me of this!

I'm at 7 weeks. Still some pain, but manageable.  I'm a wimp, though. I can't IMAGINE running on it at all in the first 4 weeks.

HA!

It took me a long time to do it, but I finally converted all my "using Arcgis" books to Mpeg. I love listening to them on long bike rides now. Well worth the time.

Trev--you listen to something while riding? like with ear buds in your ears?  unles you're on a trainer, aren't you worried about getting nailed by a driver?  I would/could NEVER do that for two reasons 1) safety and 2) staying in the moment is a good mental build for IM.

Late to the party but awesome job at Ragnar guys. Love the pics.  I'm in for a MG relay!

Trevor, glad to see you're hanging in there and your injury hasn't held you back. Sorry to hear about your teammate.  I hope he's ok.

Suzy, as always, awesome ride. you amaze me.

Jayne- Ditto on investigating the fit, your shorts, and the saddle.  I did a lot of investigative work and finally settled on a Selle SMP Pro saddle with a slight downward angle on top of the turned nose and a pair of castrelli shorts at Suzy's suggestion.  My oomph tri shorts are ok for HIM but not for rides over 3 hrs.  I think it has to do with how they (particularly the pad) fit on me.

John- how in the world did you break those two toes? without affecting the middle toe?  That's highly suspicious to me.

Went to the beach for a few days and I feel like I've been gone two weeks.  Need to update my logs at some point.

I got ya, Trev.  Was going to chime in about how podcasts on remote sensing had helped me on my runs lately.

I'm up for an MG Ragnar depending on the time and location.   Just add me to the list of slow, but determined runners.

Nada for me this weekend.  I am headed to Maine for a week.  I'll check in if there is access in the woods.

Good luck to everyone who is racing.
