Check out my Bike and Run from yesterday. If you click on them - you will see elevation data, and a map.. you can click the map, and see the elevation chart, in addition to the Google Maps chart. (I love this new feature in the new site) Due to the conversation about flat lands and hills, I thought I would show you all the elevation I deal with around here. It is non stop up, down, up, down.......... oops - that's starting to sound a little dirty. : Hey, that's cool!! Nice up and down movement there, Skrat! I use an app on my phone to track my rides and runs. This app overlays on Google Maps. I can download the data file for the map, and upload it here now (I couldn't do that with the old site)... when I do that, a map will show up on my training log. The ones that have no map, also have no elevation data, because I have not imported the google map data file for that run. What app is that? I would love to have one of those. There are so many hills in Appalachia. I have come to embrace them (smile at the hill!). I hail from Central California where our hills were highway overpasses and wind. I would love to know the elevation of my favorite trail runs. Well I can't get enough of rafting so I'm taking my 10' Avon scout out for a spin on the Pigeon River and then home for a bike ride later this afternoon, then gardening. Great weekend all! |

Nope - the conversation started with our landlocked manatee in Kansas I believe... then someone said something about Florida having long flat runs or rides. I was late to this party. I was thinking specifically of the grade on a treadmill comment (otherwise everything traces back to Yanti as the OP). You said to use 1-1.5% or so to simulate outdoor riding and go to show with the elevation charts that "flat" might be like 5% of what outside is actually like for you with all the hills around. |

That is all. Now back to your regular programming. I am a JoGo failure. Kick me off the list, I've missed too many days, like 3 or more. Bad manatee. Bad JoGo-er. Life just kinda gets in the way sometimes, which really isn't that great of an excuse. No such thing as a bad jogo-er. Any jogo is better than no jogo! You all will have to wait until Monday for the update. Work was a mess yesterday and when I finally got to the spreadsheet, I got called to see 2 patients. Seeing they pay me, I figure work had to trump BT. Oh, to be retired and just be able to work out and stalk you all! *in my dreams* My stupid home computer does not have excel so I can't open the spreadsheet here. |

We got evacuated from our house for a nearby gas leak! It didn't last long, we were out of the house a couple hours before they scaled back the evacuation but it was a new experience. Never been evacuated before. Gave us reason to think about being prepared for such things and having important documents in one, easy access location. |

I like this app better than Map My Ride. The downside is, it doesn't give you the elevation data in the app - I have to do the extra steps I described above to get the elevation data.... If you want your elevation data available without the extra downloading and uploading - Map My Run will give you that within the phone. Not sure if you can export your routes to import them here or not, and I know you can do that with the Cardio Trainer App. |

It's just a really tough one to write because I miss Taupo so much--such a magical mystical place with some of the best people on Earth as Jo can confirm--but most of all because my dad died immediately after. Mentally and emotionally (well, and physically), March was one of the most concentrated months of my life and it's just difficult to revisit it. Plus, I have like a hundred pictures. Maybe more. |

Take all the time you need. It's your report. You do it how you like and when you like. For a sorta similar situation for me (as best I can tell), things just kind of stalled and sat there for quite awhile. Then all the sudden I'd get a huge amount of whatever done really fast. |

Awesome hills here! More like a bazillion little rollers, really. That's fantastic. I took a rest day today. Hubby is home and we had some projects that needed to be done. I mowed, weeded, and spread grub kill for two hours today. I hate my lawn (weeds). |

I actually was pretty comfy as I was wearing an jetpack filled vest, a full camel back of water, and had drenched my shirt and head wrap... No matter my comfort level, it's always worth it to see all the kids, special needs and not, having a great time and dancing with the frog. Anyway, the frog thing equals a 2.5 hour Jogo for me...yep I was out there for 2.5 hours in that suit....Don't know if I was awesome, or just plain stupid, but I had fun. |

(Okay, I realize this describes EVERY 24 hours in my life I've always said this and many of you have to me too, and experienced this for yourselves: when the shyte really hits the fan, it's always surprising who shows up and who doesn't. But I always, always get what I need. MY MAN LUKIE WON CAIRNS!!! I am sure Jo is having a blast there. I so wish I could have done this race but I feel God knew best and clearly it wasn't time.
In very sad news tragedy hit my old hometown of Santa Monica (I lived in Venice Beach, so the Marina del Rey/Venice/Santa Monica boardwalk is like one long continuous beach walk/esplanade). I had read the news yesterday and been in contact with friends but was not aware how close it hit until my friend Anne posted this. Anne and her husband Paul are some of my closest friends there--as in I raised and trained their dogs, have keys to their house, took road trips with them, spent time every week, sometimes several times a week with them. This is what she posted on FB: Just want to say thank you to all my family and friends for your care, concern and support. Yesterday was a crazy, emotionally draining, traumatic, and very scary day. I am still processing what happened but just feel so grateful that Russell did not leave the house two minutes later and that John, the shooter, decided not to shoot me. I couldn't sleep last night, just kept seeing him looking right at me. His eyes were dead, as moments before he had shot and killed his brother and father. I was transfixed to the spot on my porch until he shot the lady in the car at point blank range and with no hesitation - then something (self preservation?) kicked in. Somehow, during it all, I retained enough sanity to call 911, tend to the woman he shot, and try to put out the fire with garden hoses and with the help of several of my neighbors. I am sure you have heard all of this on the news, but as I said, I am trying to process it all so thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers. I really feel for the mother, who was vacationing in Lebanon, and who will now return to the loss of both of her sons as well as her ex-husband. All so senseless. |

He wants to die. I totally get it. Judi and Wondermoose remember me going through this ... one of the worst times of my life. It takes you to such a dark place and cripples you in every way, literally. I have permanent osteoarthritis from this. I was horrendously depressed for weeks (it completely effs your neurotransmitters as well), but having dealt with major depressive disorder most of my life, I knew I was going to be okay even if I felt like I was dying and wanted to die. Jim doesn't have that experience. He's also finding (as I did) the paucity of literature and recommendations for this relatively rare but now increasing illness. We've had a much longer than usual rainy season here (like much of the rest of the world, and still ongoing) which has jacked up the incidence of mosquito-borne disease. Anyway I've also been keeping in close touch with Jim to try to keep his spirits up--he's never been through anything like this before whereas when I had it I'd already been through a gamut of nasty tropical shyte--as well as his family and doctor. It's pretty horrifying to know you'll probably feel like this for weeks if not months. Excruciating physical and emotional pain. Extreme fatigue. Fever that goes on for weeks and often spikes high. Some get it worse than others; it can depend on the strain and curiously enough, healthier/fitter people often suffer more (I won't get into the supposed explanation). Anyway. His sister wrote me the loveliest e-mail and even Jim found the energy to write ... I AM TAKING STEP 3 TODAY TURNING MY WILL AND MY LIFE OVER TO THE CARE OF YANTI AS I UNDERSTAND HER ! "severe" depression is an understatement ! Love, Jim
This isn't a case of someone else I need to take care of--this is really just sharing a few words and phone calls of experience where I can be of particular help because I've been there and I understand how serious it is and I've done the research. Also because he literally lives next door it'll be easy to see him when I GO BACK TO BALI FOR TWO WHOLE WEEKS NEXT WEEK WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO
