DQ Hi, Dave, and glad to see you back. My suggestion would really to be focused on the process, not the results. So look to get X number of 30 minute workouts in during the week and try to eat a little better (I could use some of that too ). The lbs will come off eventually. Enjoy the 920 - I just got one pretty recently and while there's a learning curve for me adjusting from having a Fenix 2 (the buttons are all in different spots, so I have to "unlearn" everything all my automatic button presses, especially in the pool...). Walking is a great start. When I jacked up my back the first time and gained like 20 pounds, I walked a LOT - like 15 miles/week in addition to some swimming and core work. Looks like we're all going to come back for next year! |

If not for you guys, I am not sure I would be motivated enough to tri. I ran a mile to my gym yesterday, did a 15 minute core class and ran/walked home. I am out of shape but glad I got out there. A little hungover today, but hoping I feel better by the afternoon and can get another workout in. I'm having lasik in just 10 days! Won't be able to work out a little so I want to get a little base before I sit around for a week or two. |

I know it's not terrible considering that I'm at my in-laws and that I spent a big chuck of my day interviewing for a job - but I'm bummed I didn't get something in. Tomorrow I'm travelling to see a college friend then I'm off to visit my mother and father in Cleveland. Unfortunately - it won't get any easier there either. I saw the movie Passengers - pretty good. Anyone else see it yet? |

YIKES! My company does the health benefits thing too. We get up to $360 a year - whether $30 a month toward a gym membership, or loads of other things qualify too (including bike purchases as they are fitness equipment!). |

DQ Glad to have you back! Those new aerobars - hopefully they fit better than the old ones! (At least the left one if not both are loose enough they slide around - not good for holding an aero position lol). Getting your a55 in gear - you know what you have to do. It's just consistency. There's no need for PR runs or 5k swims or anything. Today, you do something. Tomorrow, something else. Something can be a 30 minute walk. Something else can be an easy spin on the trainer. Trying too hard so early can be discouraging - stick to easy workouts. You know your fitness is down, so the only way to go is up. And let me know when you want to meet up in the new year - I have a few butt whoopins' to put on you from around the world of BDAS hahahaha. And I need to get back to Cold Harbor brewery. Been dreaming of that place since we went in the spring. |

It "was" a dream bike for me too, but I turned 50 this year so the so often quoted "what the heck" was just perfect: no budget for a convertible or a sports car, so it had to be a bike. I think it is a fantastic bike, extremely light, extremely precise with ultegra 11, and easy to ride, both up and downhill (much better than my previous one, that going downhill was not so stable) Take it for a ride any day!! Last one I went to I felt light-headed and dizzy within 5 minutes. I made it through this whole one with no issues! Other than some heart burn. But I know it was the sandwich I ate for lunch, which had sun-dried tomato pesto on it. No bueno. I am going to let my body recover today (trying to ease back into things), and then do some mid-day classes tomorrow since I have off of work. I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year! Can't believe it's almost 2017...which means it's almost tri season again! Woohooo! |

The gym is only open from 10a-2p this week and as a result it is crazy packed! I think I had to wait for every machine and bench today. It probably will be like this for the next month or so, as we will have the resolutioners coming at the beginning of the month and then when the students come back there is another flush of people for about two weeks. Then it settles back down in February. Is everyone thinking about their goals for 2017? |

My goals for 2016 were clearly defined - train up to do a 'long' sprint as my 'A' race and as a bridge to Olympic distance tris, and train for my first marathon (part of Dopey Challenge next week). For 2017, I don't have a single goal in mind. The wife, following completion of IMNC 70.3 in October, has indicated she's taking at least 6 months off of training altogether, and may only do a sprint for fun this summer. So, this does allow me more freedom for training this year, at least the first half of 2017 anyway. |

I agree it's a little dicey but there have been sometimes when i have swum in decently warm water. I needed a wet suit but it wasn't that bad. We could sign up for the duathlon. |

Mostly because I'm eyeing a new bike purchase at the moment and I won't likely have money for a full sleeved wetsuit which would be necessary for that one. I just have a shorty right now which is great for the summer races where wetsuits are barely under legal temps. |
