I posted my gra-pee-ti... not sure what more I can give you.  I do have another bathroom-themed snow picture... it was a snowman one day, then it snowed overnight and it looked a bit different the next day.

If one IMLP 2010 rider pulls off a century this weekend, I will grace you with my picture

Not this weekend for me, but NEXT.

and the pee thing was funny Josh. ................but you need to work on steadness.

She spent the weekend with 12 chicks doing just that.  Pedis, appletinis, bikinis & catching huge striped bass on a boat on the Chesapeake.  There is another guilty IMLP BTer who was part of the hijinx.  I had a GREAT weekend and knocked off a long term goal.    If someone can teach me how to post pics, you will get one!

JoshKaptur - 2010-04-30 9:53 PM Jorge - just wanted to give a personal thank you for that post.  I learned a lot and appreciate you taking the time to write it all.  In fact, it was copied to a file in my desktop so I can try to use a little more science in my fueling plans (right now I just sort of do "whatever" based on how I feel... thirst, drink... hungry, eat... in general I drink unless I feel like I don't want to drink... and usually it's sports drink).

Anyway - THANK YOU.

anytime!

Just logging in to say hello and so you know I'm still around.
I've had a virus on my computer (well spyware) and it has taken us most of a week to get rid of it so I have had minimal computer access from a different computer (cos I haven't got these modern gadgets like iphone and blackberry   and I like my mouse!)

Now my "training HIM" is done I am so excited to be in the final couple of months push for IMLP.  My coach has started me on a little strength block so I did push ups for the first time in months at the weekend and I can really feel it today.  It is actually nice to feel a good type of sore though

Hope everyone is on target with their training

I just finished tinkering with my May plan and I'm ready to post my goals.

HIM (this saturday) - goal=sub-5:00.  Happy=5:15.  Satisfied=5:30.  Previous PR is 5:49:45.
Swim: 26
Bike: 750
Run: 150

I'm a bit conflicted about the race.  A "tuneup" race is so common, but recovery is really going to eat into what is prime time IMLP training time.  I'm going to play it conservative and take almost a week off from running afterwards, and several days off from biking.

Too funny Josh!  Great pics

Funny you mention Recovery from Races cause I raced a half marathon yesterday and my legs are BANGED UP today!! And on top of that, I couldn't even race to my potential cause my legs were banged up going into the Race.  But yah know what, who cares!  I don't!  I'm addicted to Racing.  I've decided to just Taper and and be prepared for two 'A Races' per season.  The other dozen or so races I do (yes, I'm addicted to Race Day and do 12 to 15 races per year) are all for fun, and I know I'm not going to be 100% for any of them.  But I have so much fun, and really they are all just hard training days prepping me for that 'A Race'.  This year my 'A Races' are Lake Placid and the Steamtown Marathon.  All the other half marathons, half Ironman's, road races, Olympic Tri's ... they're all really for fun cause there just isn't enough time to Taper/Recover.  You gotta just train through them and focus on your Active Recovery.  I'm finding, too, the more I race the less time I need to Recover.  This is a crazy hectic lifestyle, but I couldn't imagine it any other way.

Just my 2 cents (and really that's all it is), but my plan is to treat my half later this month like a training day. If I take off on Fri & Sat before the race, then the distances of the race are no more than what I would do on a Fri/Sat/Sun of training....actually probably a lot less at that point. Recover on Monday and back for a nice long slow swim on Tuesday with biking and running on Wed. Just my thoughts. The only caution flag I would put up is to be careful with trying to make up your monthly training goals with the other weeks as you could risk injury. Again, this is only my 2 cents and you know your training/capabilites better than anyone. Good luck with the Half! Which race is it?

Who is following the BT plan for IMLP????

I need guidance from someone following it!  I started early and now I'm on my last week of training before "tapering"...so I need to figure out if I need to just cycle through the last couple of weeks again as is or add to what I've already done the second time around (and then wait until July to taper).

TIA!

I used to be all about training through B & C races.  I still do that in terms of limited taper.  But my problem is that on race day, even if I plan to hold back some... I will leave it all on the course.  I mean really really really push the limits to get every last drop of potential out of me.  For something like a HIM, that will mean several days of recovery.

The race is Kinetic Half in Lake Anna State Park, VA.

ok, I need some opinions. I am going up to lake placid the first weekend in june for a training camp. the next weekend is eagleman which i am registered for but still don't have a place to stay. my question is, what is more beneficial for me to do: 1) race eagleman or 2) go up to lake placid again that weekend for the free endurance nation camp.

thanks

So I have good news and a question. The good news is that I ran the Long Branch Half Marathon this weekend and posted a new PR of 1:37 and that was after an 85 mile ride and nearly 2 mile swim on Saturday.

But my question is why is it that after every running race I get such awful stomach cramps? I literally feel fine the whole time running but as soon as I cross that finish line it takes all of about 5 minutes and then I get cramps. I am hoping someone can give me some insight on why this happens or how to avoid this. I drank water at every aid station so I don't think it could have been dehydration.

You paid for EM - might as well race it.  Just my opinion.

But in general, I think that racing a HIM during your key IM training builds is counter-intuitive... even though everyone (me too) does it.  The recovery costs are pretty steep if you really race it.

I also did the LBH... A little warm...VERY HOT!!!!  People were dropping like flys out there... only thing I can think of maybe about the stomach cramps is... did you have any of the Gatoraide at the finish???  I did and I was hurting too, it was very thick.... anyways congrats on good run, through tough conditions...

You gave your all and toughed it out... you pushed harder than you did in training.  Your body did what you asked it to do and held it together while you pushed hard, even though it wanted to shut down.  When you finished, your body said "okay, now I can shut down right?" and it did.

Funny thing is - you could have run 10 more minutes without cramping I bet.  It's just that when the adrenaline faded, the physiological complaints kicked into overdrive.

Be happy you can do this.  There are some people who can't push that hard.
