Can you believe ti's that time again?  Is there anyone out there racing for the GOLD this weekend? Laughing  If so, raise your hands high and tell us all about it!

For those not racing, what Olympian inspires you?  what can you take away from their performances?

Which Olympian DOESN"T inspire me is the question!!! Well, I wasn't inspired by the Japanese gymnastics men, to be honest. Downright broke my heart. Otherwise, such heart, passion, desire, talent -- I just watch hours and hours of the Olympics in tears. I LOVE THE OLYMPICS!!! Having fun with the kiddos being a couch potato and exploring random sports, too. Kids loved the canoeing! And I have two kids who are ready to give water polo a try!! WOOT! Talk about a TOUGH SPORT!!

Oh yeah, no racing for me.

How about the South Korean,Chinese and Indonesian female badminton teams? Crazy!!

The story of Brit Tom Daley and his father was quite moving. I am a sucker for those type of stories

Hey ya'll.  Thanks for all the suggestions about bike shorts and saddles.  I bought a very pricey pair of Cannondale bibs to try.  Won't do another long ride until next week because I'm getting ready for a race this weekend.

It's a Sprint + a little.  800yd swim, 17mi. bike, 5mi. run. I've decided to go into this one with a run/walk plan in place (since I always end up walking some anyway).  I'm hoping this will help the body keep from overheating.  I'm planning on improving my swim time and my run time and match last year's bike.

After this weekends race, I have an OLY the beginning of Sept. and finally a sprint at the end of Sept (trail run).

I'm REALLY looking forward to the temps dropping out of the 90s.  I'm done with hot.

Jayne:  Can't wait to hear how you like those shorts!  I had two honking long rides back to back this week and the parts are in tact.

Trev:  Totally agree with you.  I am suprised to see them so soon.  Big question is whether IM WI will be back next year. Contract was up last year and got a one year extension.  Haggling over $$$.

Fatty:  I agree!!  I love watching those swimmers.  They make it look so simple.  Their turn over is crazy.

Paul and I are off to Minocqua in the morning so no racing for me! Enjoy the weeknd!

No racing for me, I'm easing back into tri training but I'm still struggling a bit with running so I'm going easy there. My swimming's come back nicely, I don't really feel any different despite a couple of months off! Did a straight 2.5km this morning, air temp was only 4 Celsius but pool was like a bath.

I'm enjoying the Olympics but the time difference is awkward, you can only watch it live very late at night or at breakfast time here. Everyone is very disappointed with the lack of success in the pool, Aussies don't like coming second. I blame the lack of sports funding with our crappy government, you only have to look at the size of Our prime ministers a$$ to see how much sport she does....!

Hey MG. Sorry for not posting for awhile. Things have been a mess.

Work issues continue and I am trying to work out our future, which may involve moving to Europe. I have a call with my boss later today.

My knee has been a real impediment to my tri-season. Bottom line is there really has not been a season. I have been unable to do most of the races I wanted. While the knee is improving SLOWLY!, every day IMFL seems to become less likely. Even with a best case improvement I would have to walk most of the run and I do not want to do that.

The foregoing has me feeling down. That and travel and family stuff have made regular training a mirage. I need to get back to regular exercise as my weight is up.

So it looks like my season is done and I will continue to heal and slim down. I will be talking to my coach later today too.

I expect to pull the plug on Florida within the week.

Sorry to hear this Doug.  Take care of you and the family.  There will be more seasons and more IM's.

Just a thought, how about coming on down to Florida and bailing at T2.  Definitely not ideal but it would still be a blast.

Good to hear from you Doug. I'm sorry your season hasn't gone as planned, but as John said, there will be other seasons. Good luck with the relocation decision, and with getting your knee healthy!

I'm running a trail marathon in Indy this weekend. The course isn't super difficult, but it's going to be hot, so my plan is to pace it conservatively (and I mean it this time) and stay on top of hydration and nutrition.

As for Olympics, swimming is and will always be my favorite to watch. It's such a beautiful sport, and it's amazing and inspiring to see the best in the world take to the water. Did anyone catch the men's 100 free finals last night? Pure joy.

Doug, Sorry to hear your summer isn't going as planned.  Hopefully you can focus on some cross-training.  I hope your work situation turns out well for you and your family.  Change is always scary.

Julia, I saw the men's swimming last night--super exciting!

So, I have a race this Saturday.  I've had a bit of a cough for the past couple days, and last night it became evident that it's an all-out chest cold.  It hurt to swallow last night and this morning I spent the first hour of my day trying to cough my lungs clear.  Ugh.  So, I'm going to shut down the last of my pre-race training and just rest an hydrate.  Any other ideas???

Loved the finals last night. Local hero here, so great articles in the paper this morning. And such a cutie on the Call Me Maybe video!!!

My favorite thing about watching the swimmers is just knowing the years upon years and hours and hours and yards and meters they have put in to every performance. Yes, I know many other sports have athletes that put in the same amount of training and such (gymnasts come to mind) -- but then I know there are many Olympic sports where people pick up something later in life and then succeed (the rowing gold medalists come to mind -- not sure which event it was?). I know those people are still amazing athletes in their own right (gotta love good genes), but watching swimming is so beautiful when you truly KNOW what is behind it.

What cracks me up is that I sit and notice things and have the audacity to criticize (i.e. Phelps messing up his last stroke on the 200 fly, someone shortening up their stroke near the end of their race, etc.)! OMG!! These are total world-class swimmers, who do I think I am??!! LOL!! Then when Rowdy says the same thing I just did, I feel all vindicated, but still like a total lame-o spouting off from my couch, ha!!

Have a great run this weekend, Julia!

Doug, we've missed you and I know everything will work out over time. Ironman ain't going anywhere...

I don't know, even with the attempted legal disclaimer, this still strikes me as "Swimmers are better" than the others.  Were you previously a Swimmer?

Yes... I was previously a swimmer. So no, it's not so much a "swimmers are better," as it's an "I understand and totally GET what it took to get there." So the respect and admiration I have for them is deep-rooted. And I do think that some Olympic sports require more time/training/dedication than others. It ain't all apples to apples. I don't think the skeet shooters put in 4-8 hours/day since they were pre-teens. Maybe I'm wrong??

Not sure how many hours our skeet shooting gold medalist Kim Rhode put in but 99/100?!!!!!  WOWZA!

The swimmers are absolutely amazing and that Nathan has the cutest smile ever.  Love how Lochte and Phelps were high fiving for him in the waiting area.

Can't wait for track and field which starts this weekend.

Doug, take care, and keep a positive outlook.  Do what you can to stay as fit as you can, whether it is PT or diet or core stuff...it will make a difference when you can get back at it!
