Cool, a paved campground I'm REALLY excited for the run course. It was awesome running through the campground last year, aside from the rocks, so now we can have the best of both worlds! The one thing I'll miss, is that since only athletes will be camping, we won't have the random families that got trapped inside of the campground, drinking their 12-packs of budlight, gawking/cheering at us crazy triathletes running around in spandex, handing out beer. Man, that was hysterical I love it!!! Sounds like CDA. . . .they literally roll out of their houses, set up the party and cheer us on the run and bike. .. good times by all. |

My favorite similar memory is from the Chicago Marathon a few years back. A group of guys had 2 kegs on the side of the road at about mile 23or 24 and were handing out small cups of beer. |

Yeah last year there was a group of dudes on the run course with a hand-made cardboard sign that read "SPONSORED BY BUSH LIGHT" and they were handing out Bush Light in little dixie cups... awesome. Doesn't this year's run take us through the campgrounds too? I can't really tell from the map where the actual camp sites are in relation to the run course. |

Yes, it does- but those are the campgrounds where we'll be staying, and I'm pretty sure they won't be open to 'the public'. So, there will still be family and friends, and I imagine a lot of support, but there won't be those very distinct 'sponsored by bud light' type of folks (unless those people were actually with some racers?!). |

But I am all up on the camping and paved streets.....Geez. Aw, now I feel bad! LOL, like I said, I really wasn't trying to be snarky, I promise!! It's just that before our discussing of pavement, and campgrounds, we were 'obsessing' over the hills on the course-for the past 3 mos- and the details of the course have been depicted in a few reviews on this forum- where people have given great descriptions- that's all! If you wanted to look back over what some people have written, you can form your opinion about how initimading the course is. |

Well I'm not sponsored by Bud light, but will have plenty at my campsite after the race for any BTers that want to stop by for a post race cold one. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread I know a number of us are camping at the race site, but is anyone interested in a BT meet and greet? Dinner Saturday night? I was thinking of driving into Lawrence to eat and will probably hit up a Mexican place (don't knock it! It works for me ) if anyone is interested. Otherwise it would be cool to maybe meet and greet at bike check in or the campsite? Any thoughts? I will probably make a new BT poster (old one got demolished!) and stake it outside our tent area so if you see it come say hello. Also is anyone planning on doing a practice swim or bike or run? Last year we took a dip in the lake at bike check in (after riding a little) but I think this year the swim beach located at bike check in will be closed. We'd have to drive to the other side of the lake but it could be done. Takers? |

Veteran 144 Little Elm, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread I have an extra reservation for a room at the Hampton Inn, Lawrence. The hotel is sold out and apparently (I've never been there) close to the race site. One of my buddies had to cancel. The reservation is for checking in Friday and checking out on Monday morning. Send me a PM if you are interested and we can figure out the details. Please do so asap b/c if I'm going to cancel I have to do it 24 hours before check in. I'm getting really excited. I've been competing for 8 years now and this will be my first HIM. It's about time! I work in emergency management and a disaster always seems to get in the way. Pray for no Hurricanes or significant disasters. I'd be interested in a meet and greet on Saturday. My wife loves mexican. I imagine the 5 other racers from North Texas I'm traveling with would be up for it. |

I think advice like this falls under the same category as advice on strength training. I would disagree, but I'm just one person in a pool of many individuals who have tried and true systems that work for them. I advise you to go read the past four or five race reports that Lisa wrote up. It works for her. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread atasic - 2009-06-05 11:36 AM Ok. Let me retract that statement than. I can't, but you guys enjoy it for me too. I always have to defend myself when I say I eat Mexican before a race. It really does work for me. I eat Mexican probably 3-4 times a week; my system thrives on it. It's one of the only types of restaurant food I can eat with my dietary restrictions. And I'm not interested in lugging pots and pans and a camping stove to cook a meal at the campsite the night before. I usually get cheese/veggie enchiladas or fajitas and rice. It is literally corn tortillas, cheese, sour cream, grilled veggies, pico de gallo, and rice. That's it! A really good meal for little ol' me. I stay away from beans, hot sauces, and liquor - all of which have the potential to upset my tummy. But I'm just talking about simple foods like I listed above. Nothing crazy, but I know it's not for everyone. |

I can't, but you guys enjoy it for me too. I didn't mean to poke you in the eye - sorry if I came off that way! No, not at all. But you are correct. It is me who gets GI distress easily so I watch very closely what I do in days (not just a day) prior to race. I can do Korean food before race and I am myself from Mediteranian so my cuisine is already "ethnic" if you want. But I do go on a very bland diet before. |
