ME 2! Yup, it will be my first oly. I'm a little nervous, because I did the sprint last year and there were some seriously aggressive and rude people on the bike course. Men were cursing and screaming at each other--City of Brotherly Love, my a$$.I think you'll find the Olympic course much more "brotherly". You will get a lot of inexperienced racers in the Philly Sprint Tri (I did that one 2 years ago). But the Olympic race seemed much more cordial and professional. You'll also find that the swim is much easier on the Oly course since you swim straight downstream with the current as opposed to a loop in the Sprint race. When the race gets closer, I'll let you know my # so maybe we can say HI. LOL, I am an inexperienced racer--this will by my first oly. I'm just glad I'll be wearing a helmet in case they start throwing rocks or something. Thanks for the offer to say , "Hello." I never know anyone who does the Philly races, so I just mill around in transition getting nervous. I think if you don't kick/elbow anyone in the swim, and then ride to the right/pass on the left and yell out a friendly "passing on your left" as you do so, no one will throw rocks at you Good luck at your race Jackie! |

See if you can stop by in the transition area and say hello! I just looked you up... you're bib # 2103. We should be not to far from eachother in the transition area. I'll be the one with the deer in headlights look standing in the port-o-potty line! Good luck at the race, too, Bill! Totally unrelated to anything, but your story reminded me of my relay race last weekend. My one teammate was running one of the legs at 2am through a forest preserve in WI. For the race, we had to wear headlamps when running at night. During her leg, she saw a deer and shined her headlamp in its face. OMG it was frozen in place and she could see it shaking from 2 feet away! Once she passed by it she heard it run away. That's so interesting they are unable to move due to the light (it wasn't just because it was scared because it was able to run away once the light was out of its eyes). |

I knew it was coming, so I set my goals for the month accordingly. Rode a metric century this weekend. No RR, but the depressing story of it is in my blog from Satruday. The wound is still a little fresh. Managed to get a short ride in yesterday. Rode by myself and really enjoyed the quiet time. Hope everyone has a good day! One more day of work, the off on vacation for a week. Awww, sorry the century didn't work out for you... Sometimes it's not just in the cards. But there are always others... Could you shoot to do one in the fall? At least the weather will be better then, plus it shouldn't be too hard with your current base! |

I'm not sure if it's because of the relay race I did over the weekend (living in a van with little sleep for 2 whole days might have done it), or it could be that I've been riding my bike to work for the last 2 weeks and it's taking a lot more out of me than I thought it would? Anyways, I hope I'm un-tired by Saturday since it'll be my first marathon training run as a pace leader for my training program, and I don't want to make a bad first impression by not being able to keep up! |

I did my first 100km in April, but it took me about 5-6 months of solid bike training to complete it...and my 100k was on a very flat route. I think your completion of the metric is something you should be very proud of. No failure there. |

Nice job. Inquiring minds want to know if you found the free breakfast on the way to work finally. Yes, I finally did! And since today's the last day of bike to work week, there's a huge rally at Daley Plaza all day. This morning I stopped by and had a bagel, banana, and water and got a free tshirt, 2 waterbottles, and a bike map of the city. I might stop by again after work, since they have a beer garden and I think cyclists get a free beer (though, actually that doesn't sound like a good idea but luckily it's downtown so if people overdo it, they can just take the train or bus home). |

I felt kind of gypped since I was biking to work all week and didn't know they gave me breakfast for doing something I was gonna do anyways. Glad I got my free stuff this morning though... It definitely made up for it Next year, I'll be sure to take advantage of the breakfasts all week! I *really* hope I get a chance to stop by after work tonight for the beer garden! |

Extreme Veteran 494 Morris County, NJ | Subject: RE: Team 3 - June Challenge Hi Team! We have been having wonderful weather, so my bike and I are having a love affair. Need to get on my running shoes a bit more, though. Will be a light weekend for me; just a short practice tri tomorrow to work out the kinks. Do I even remember how to set up a transition area? I'm sure it will all come back to me. Oh, and since I'll be away, I'll take this opportunity to say, "Happy Father's Day" to all to whom that applies. I'll be cheering my husband on at a small Jersey tri that has a special retro category for Dads to drag out all the vintage gear. Should be way too funny. Have a fantastic weekend everyone. |

Master 1641 Seattle, California | Subject: RE: Team 3 - June Challenge Hey team. I had to take the week pretty much off running due to an ankle injury I sustained last week during a trail run. A week later it is still bruised and a little swollen. It doesn't feel that painful as long as there is no torque on it but rather then chance running on it I have just taken the week off. I think I should be able to get back into the swing of things next week but this week is pretty much at a loss. Is it cool if I modify my goals to reflect the time I've taken off for the challenge. I would hate to bring the team down because of this. Hopefully I will be 100% next week and be able to pick up where I left off. |

Shoulder is feeling good and it was a good 10:30 min/mile run this morning that was 4 miles of ALL running. YEAH. No stopping until I was done. Tomorrow I get to try for 5 and will stay there for hte week with some 4's thrown in. Hoping I can squeak out another mile for 5 tomorrow. Will see. the weather was 54 and lower humidity this morning with spitting rain. And I told myself I couldn't have DQ if I didn't run. I ran and I got DQ. Tomorrow run and pedi. Hope everyone is doing well. I am in Alaska for work and I have been bogged down with work since I got here so sorry for the lack of inspires and checking in. Expert 1163 | Subject: RE: Team 3 - June Challenge Good morning team! What a weekend! It started off with hurricane-like winds Friday afternoon causing a power outage at work. I would have gone home early except it really looked like a hurricane outside and didn't want to go out in that weather (to give you and idea of how windy it was, I have friends who work at the Sears Tower and the building was swaying so much that people's office doors were opening & closing by themselves). Once the winds died down, I headed home on my bike. It wouldn't have been too bad, besides getting utterly soaked, except that I got 2 flat tires on my way home. Lovely! Lucky for me, there was a bike shop around the corner so I just paid for them to change my flats rather than trying to fix it in the rain. By the time I got out of the bike shop, the storm was over. Saturday I started my marathon training program, and had my first group long run of the summer. Sunday was my long ride-- 52 miles. I was hoping to go for longer (not as long as Jay , maybe 60-something) but I had to cut my ride short because I was running late to father's day brunch! |

Finding a good group is the key. I have a hard time motivating myself when I'm riding solo...but in a group, I'll do everything I can to avoid getting dropped. Once I show up for the ride...I'm commited. I'll admit that my legs were not feeling too good on Saturday or Sunday morning. The only reason I completed both rides was because my ego would hurt more than my legs if I pulled back or cut the route short. |

Expert 1580 Ankeny, Iowa | Subject: RE: Team 3 - June Challenge Got a 4 mile and 5 mile run in Sat and Sunday. It felt good to get out and run again after being off for almost a week of running. Shoulder is complaining a bit today (no meds and the workouts probably don't help) so I will give it a break before I have to lug the heavy backpack through the airports friday/saturday. Ran along the lake and watched the float planes take off. Partly cloudy and mid 50's on both days when I ran so it was perfect. Both days were all running. This was the first time I ran 5 miles without having to do a walk/run. It was fabulous and a big confidence boaster. Today is core/lower body to give the shoulder a break and then 4 and 5 mile runs on T, W, and R with a break before heading home late friday. Have a good week everyone!!! Stacie |
