Member 32 Somewhere between lost and found | Subject: Prayers for Michelle We lost a founding member of our club yesterday. The Human Racers, now part of MSM Michelle had carcinoma meningitis, which means the cancer was in her spinal fluid and around her brain. Go to caringbridge.org and type in michellechaput for more information. I would like to ask every to say a prayer for Michelle and her family. another member Gil Hannon wrote the following prayer... I am blessed to have know Michelle.......she will be missed.
My friend Michelle
My friend Michelle was called up to heaven today God said, “Hey Michelle, come on up, let’s play.” I have designed a great course for you 140.6 miles in all; grab your gear for the race, you will have a ball. You will swim in my ocean; you will find it a breeze, the dolphins will guide you; you will do it with ease. Take your time in transition, have a snack if you like, the angels will greet you as you prepare for the bike. The course is amazing, through my pastures of green, all of it downhill, like nothing you have seen. Take your time in transition; the fun’s just begun, just wait till you see what I have provided for your run. Your run is beside rivers and lakes and streams, you have seen this before; I have listened to your dreams. I hope you like it my child, I designed it for you. I would be thrilled if you were able to say “I do.” I like it Lord, I like the way you play, I am peaceful up here and I am happy to stay.

Veteran 487 McFarland, WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Just a little heads up if you are riding the "stick"portion of the IM WI bike course. S Fish Hatchery Road will be closed early Monday morning between Lacy Rd and Shamrock Ln, and remain closed through mid-October. In addition to finding alternate routes, be aware that significant amounts of traffic will be detouring onto surrounding roads frequented by cyclists, including Whalen Rd, Mutchler Rd, Lacy Rd, Seminole Hwy, Syene Rd, and Irish Ln. Be predictable in your riding, signal your intentions, obey stop signs, and ride single file (or two abreast if you can do so without blocking traffic). This construction project will put motorists and cyclists in conflict throughout the summer, and we need to be respectful and safe. When S Fish Hatchery Rd reopens in October, it will have paved bike lanes and a multi-use side path throughout the project, and the speed limit will be reduced to 40 MPH (from 50). Instead of being extremely hazardous for cyclists, S Fish Hatchery Rd between Lacy Rd and Irish Ln will become a recommended bike route in the Fitchburg system. So at least there's something to look forward to! Please pass this along to other biking lists. Thank you! Regards, Steve Arnold, Fitchburg Alder, District 4 Only two seasons in Wisconsin--Winter and Road Construction! |

Iron Donkey 38643 , Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread The run course still has construction at the top of Observatory Hill - they caged the area off on the road, so, there are two choices - 1). Run "off-road" along the other side of the curb for the .1 mile or so, but be careful. |

The bike course is a BLAST!! It's really not a "killer" unless you train on totally flat roads. The profile looks bad but if you look a little closer, even the "big" hills are less than 400'. The total climbing of the course is 4300' give or take a couple hundred feet. If you ride in upstate NY that's a typical 40 to 50 mile ride. Take the first loop at a comfortable pace and spin up the hills. Accellerate going down the hills and your momentum will carry you up most of the rollers. Most of all ........ have a blast out there, it's a great venue! |

Maybe I misread the elevation profile and some other stuff.....I thought there was around 7000 feet of ascent on the bike course? I am wrong?? |

Maybe I misread the elevation profile and some other stuff.....I thought there was around 7000 feet of ascent on the bike course? I am wrong?? Pretty sure its more than 4300, but less than 7000. I would guess right in the middle somewhere. But Bob is spot on. Lots of rollers, and if you pedal the downhills you can make it up a good portion of the next uphill. Its a fun (and technical) course, but well supported on the big hills and through the towns. A fun ride for sure. In general, there are rollers and flats and the 3 big hills, that you ride twice. They will slow your pace down, but nice descents after them. There is another hill going into Mt. Horeb that you do twice, as well, that is not in the roller classification, either. Oh yeah, and at about mile 100 there is one other substantial climb on Whalen road. Its fun to go down at the beginning, so you will know it coming back. So, in summary: Rollers, climb into Horeb, nice downhills on Garfoot and Witte, then the 3 climbs, then climb Mt. Horeb, downhills to the next 3 hills, and then the last hill on the stick. Thats how I look at it anyway. Very fun course that is never boring. Looking forward to it! |
