OK after reading some of the athlete guide, I'm pretty psyched!!!

Who's with me on this?

I am excited, anxious, nervous and plain ready to get it over with. I'll be arriving in Lake Placid on the Wednesday before the race and hopefully will be able to meet some of the fellow BTers. I plan on driving the bike and run course, but would also love to ride some of it with someone who knows the terrain.

Does anyone remember where the first bike aid station is?

I'm wondering if anyone else is feeling a bit tired this week, as we start the taper process?  All week I've been dragging, trying not to drink my body weight in coffee.  I had a monster weekend last weekend, so I'm thinking it's probably some residual fatigue from that, plus everything catching up to me finally.  My volume isn't too low this week, but it's lower than last week for sure.  Next week will be even lower.  I have one big last ride scheduled for tomorrow, then a swim (and perhaps a run) on Sunday.

Anyone else feeling a bit sluggish this week?

IIRC, a few miles out of town going up a modest grade before hitting the Keene descent.

I am, but I think it's due to the fact that I really went nuts on the training last weekend to slam myself on hills one last time.

One thing I've noticed during this training is that those monster weekends have a way of catching up to you - and not necessarily immediately afterwards. But backing off a few days - either complete rest or just easy workouts - seemed to get rid of the sluggishness.

I've actually noticed I'm starting to feel energetic. And this "taper" is so far no different than any other week. Just the mental freedom of knowing no more 6 hour rides!

My taper starts next weekend with most likely next Friday being off.  While my volumes have remained big I have taken full rest days during these last two weeks.   Hope to meet you guys a Lake Placid.

My taper has started already. I definitely feel sluggish, but it's normal, based on my other ironmans tapers. A deep massage didn't help either.
Still have a med run 15-17mi and 50-70mi bike this weekend. Hopefully the body will give  me a go.  if not planning on watching lots of Tour De Armstrong. I guess I learn from previous mistakes...being ambitious can be bad in this case.
I will travel to Lake Placid on Thursday. Hopefully will see some BT's at the swim friday and Sat.

If anyone has done CDA and LP, could you compare both swim? I heard the swim start is very narrow.

Thanks,

Manuel

My taper is like the last week so it's not much of a taper.  It's more like a recovery week.

Taper? I'm still trying to build! Placid will be my second century of the year. I am going to be ready to get out of that saddle at the end of the second loop!!

Can't wait for the Gatorade swim Friday and meeting some more BTers!

I have a sprint that I am riding to tomorrow, then adding some running miles after the finish then taking the loooooong way home after the race! A great day of training!!

Youth is a wonderful thing!

I can’t say I have.  You have proven YOU can do it though with x3 IM.  There is a BT that did the IMLP last year on minimal training.  Not sure how he felt the day after.

I have done several long rides over 100+ with my longest ride 120 mile with 8800 ft of climbing.  PennState did several long rides and one at 134 miles.  So it will be interesting to see everyone’s results and hear how they feel after.

I truly am excited to accept whatever God gives me in this race. It could be a great day, it could be a modest day, it could be the most painful day of my life (see injuries). I accept it regardless without exception or question.

I absolutely agree as is my case as well, minus the injuries.  It’s a long race at which I feel I am prepared for.  Anything could happen.  With Gods grace we will ALL finish happen, safe and in good health.  Maybe even with a surprize or two.   Laughing

I just finished my last long ride (120 miles, solo) and because I am coming to LP from California, I am packing up my bike tomorrow to take to TriBikeTransport for the trip cross country.  I guess that means it's time to taper...

x2. Tribullbutter will kick all our arses despite his lack of training. He is a rockstar (and a little bit younger with a more forgiving body probably)... he will have showered and cleaned up and be back to the finish line in time to cheer us on

I fully expect to be humbled in this race despite good swim and bike training. I will learn a lot from it and be a better person.

Ha! This year has been crazy and time has been limited.

I'm excited to see how I do on the "minimal" amount of training I've done for this race. I'm never done an IM with out doing at least 2-3 centuries... Regardless we're all gonna have a blast because LP is the most gorgeous IM out there
