Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LOL, I did not say you need that along with a powertap! I think what you need is this setup... http://www.wheelbuilder.com/store/zipp-sub-9-tubular-powertap-disc.html I KENOTT swim - 2009-12-18 7:45 AM I KENOTT swim - 2009-12-18 5:23 AM KeriKadi - 2009-12-17 2:48 PM trying1 - 2009-12-17 2:44 PM I'm totally psyched, I might be buying a new/used computrainer for $650. My friend's friend bought them for his company and he unfortunately got fired for it but is now selling them. I'm told they've only been used 4-5 times. I'll know for sure by Sunday. If I do get it does anyone want to buy a slightly used cycleops fluid 2 trainer? DUDE!!! I know Ken er, I mean SANTA has been looking for a Cycleops Fluid Trainer for a sweet girl who has been VERY good this year maybe you could check to see if SANTA has finished his shopping ![]() OR We could all take turns paying admission to use your CT. Santa just needs to do wrapping at this point - no more tri crap for you! OK I changed my mind - more tri crap for you if you add this to my list. http://www.trisports.com/zipp-speed-shop-rear-powertap-wheels1.html Besides, Eric said so! Of course a $2400 wheel on a $800 bike will look a bit odd, but after training for about a year I will be so fast you won't be able to see the bike. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I personally only use paddles and very rarely a kick board. Depending on what needs to be worked on with the stroke fins are a good investment for most. It allows your body position to be raised very easily and lets you feel what it 'should' feel like. Only warning is don't become addicted to fins ![]() For kicking I do most of my kicking without a board on my stomach/back or side. It lets you work on body balancing instead of just holding onto a board that holds you up. bzgl40 - 2009-12-18 7:20 AM Evondo, do you use any equipment when you train for swimming like kick boards, fins, etc? I have in the past used kick boards but find that I know have an ok kick so I haven't really gone back to it and haven't really used anything else. I have a feeling all that is going to change once I join the Masters team (if I keep announcing I am going to do I'll have to). |

After a while the family life took alot of my time and I got lazy. FAMILY STATUS: Married to Mrs. Newtons1st. A 2 yo girl, 12 yo twin boys and a 14 yo step son and done. CURRENT TRAINING: I have been trying to maintain some steadyness the lest few months but not to successful. 2009 RACES: Was my first year of Tris. 1 du, 1 sprint, 1 oly. 2010 RACES: A repeat of all 09 races. Du in Feb, Oly in May, Sprint in June, Swim leg of HIM in June, OLY in Oct. There is a gap from June to Oct so I might need to add something in there WEIGHTLOSS: Need to not be 200+ at a race. That is too much extra to be lugging around. WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR: I am looking to steal some of EvDs magic speed potion that gives him"c" speed. MY EXPECTATIONS: To PR all my races this year!!! and get everyone here aquainted with the magical insparation some BT* can give you on training and racing. |

![]() | ![]() gavisk - 2009-12-17 10:26 PM evondo - 2009-12-17 7:26 PM ", this will help me reach my full biking potential, it will improve my fitness, not my bike and it will be my last bike purchase until I reach X mph" Honestly after I bought my bike/powertap I wouldn't allow myself to upgrade wheels until I reached 24mph in a race. It wasn't until earlier this year that I got a front race wheel and a $90 disc cover for the back training wheel. gavisk - 2009-12-17 5:44 PM That is really clear. Thank you. My next question is: how do I convince my wife that I need it? I think you just answered my next question, which was going to be: if you race with it, do you use the same wheels for training and racing? Or do you have more than one Powertap? As you mention having a disc cover, I'm going to assume that you have one Powertap wheel that you use for both racing and training. But another question arises: do you train on your racing bike, or do you have a training bike too, and switch wheels between bikes for races? This is something I've wondered a lot about. I've managed to convince my sweet, sweet wife to let me drop some cash for a TT bike this spring, and I'm sure I'll want to train on it a fair amount, but I really like riding my road bike too. Assuming I could do the necessary sweet-talking to get a Powertap wheel, would I want to switch it between bikes? Is it easy to make the shifting work properly for either? Would I then just buy a second console(terminology?) for the second bike? Most true Tri-geeks ~ are tri bike specific (probably because of the cost associated with their mighty steeds). I do know triathletes that ride super nice road bikes during the 'off-season' and then as they start ramping their training up eclusively ride the tri-bike. I only know of one tri-dooood that owns multiple (race/train) bikes... that is someone that is either sponsored or enjoys much more disposable income than the average triguy or gal! I own one tri bike... ride it in group rides, races, trainer, etc. I don't currently own racing wheels ~ so I race and train on the same wheel set. (that may be changing very soon though) I do have a 'trainer wheel' for riding the cycleops on. I have a bolt on wheelbuilder disc as well. So in an effort of not having to put on and take off the disc cover... I now have another training wheel without the disc to train on... same wheel brand as the one with the disc. Picked them up used on the cheap and put new 9spd cassettes on them. All good until I can buy the race wheels (maybe with a power tap as well).... |

![]() | ![]() Thanks to Eric's suggestions, I use paddles & occasionally a pull-bouy... he recommended fins but I never added that to the gear bag. Between Eric's advice, swim drills & workouts from swimplan... I have seen some improvements and enjoyed some great late season swims compared to what I was experiencing in '08. I am incorparating strength training in as part of the swim plan as well and I am looking to further improve my speed while maintaining my curent swim endurance. |

I have a feeling all that is going to change once I join the Masters team (if I keep announcing I am going to do I'll have to). I scope the lanes with what appears to be the better swimmers... they typically get the 'lane share' concept. I don't experience this much, but try to pick a lane with a good swimmer and then do your thing. If you are able to get to know that person, then y'all can kinda get on the same page with workouts. They would know what drills are and know what you are trying to accomplish, therefore the swims work better. I hope it goes better for ya! |

![]() | ![]() I know I am not the oldest in this group... like the first go round with evondo & company... but my youngest son is celebrating his 13th birthday today. He is a teenager! Yeah, I am officially feeling kinda old! lol! For those with young ones ~ enjoy it (although I don't envy you) cause these little rug-rats grow up too dadgum fast! I am trying to get in what ever 'exercise' I can for the next week... once Christmas has come & gone... I will be able to return to some sense of normalcy and get to work on TRI SEASON 2010! The year of the PR! And from the way this group is shaping up, it would appear that PR's will be littered all across this land... Way to go EvD's MG!!! Edited by Trin2bfast 2009-12-18 8:54 AM |

Shogun Japenese steak house for my son's birthday tonight & maybe the new Avatar movie... Tomorrow... maybe I'll get out and run (definitely headed to the gym)... working a wedding reception Saturday evening (easy money & Christmas is kind of expensive)... Sunday... I have an invite to ride Chappell Hill with Mr Fattyfatfat... may jump on that since I have only been on the bike I think twice since IMFL... Nothing like some cold hills to get ya back in the bike riding spirit. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Friday group!!!! I woke up this morning to a chilly 16 degrees outside....brrrr. I'm ready to have summer back. That pretty much kills all chances of me running outside tonight, so will most likely hop on the trainer instead. Longish run tomorrow and maybe a swim on Sunday. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You will be in that range. I'm 5"11' and ride a 54cm Cervelo P2SL. You really need to go into a few shops and try a couple bikes out if you have time. The problem with sizing is a 56 cervelo is not the same as a 56 felt, not the same as 56 quitana roo, etc... In my case if I switched to a P2C or P3C Cervelo I wouldn't be a 54 anymore because the top tube length is different. I am 5"10 and have a really long torso.....does 56 cm bike sound right??? Been to a couple different shops in the chicago land area and the bike seem really big? Any thought or words? In general, a 54 might be better for ya... it is better to go just a bit smaller than go too big. But it really depends on the bike. QRoo, Cervelo, Trek, Specialized, etc... all have slightly different specs... some a 54 or 56 is smaller/larger based on other manufacturers. Additionally, the top tube may be shorter or longer. The best bet is to try several different ones... narrow it down to comfort/fit and price... unless of course price (like me) is a greater issue, then try and work around that. Good luck! What brand is peaking your interest? my .02 - the Cervelo P2... a darn good bike for the price! I personally am a proud member of the QRoo mafia... but price, quality, reliability, performance... the P2 is HAWT! (just my HO) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() To add a little more to this... most shops are sales men and it drives me nuts they want to fit you to a bike in their shop obviously. If the store has the option get fit on a generic bike FIT system which will give you all of your optimal tube lengths for your body and find the bike/brand that best fits your measurements. evondo - 2009-12-18 9:12 AM You will be in that range.
