Emmanem - 2010-12-14 5:56 PM I found this blog today (http://runtothefinish.blogspot.com/2010/11/holiday-bootie-buster-challenge.html) and thought the challenge sounded fun but it started in the middle of November so then I thought I'd just do it on my own and who better to ask than my Crushers

Here's the rules she had posted:

1 Point per mile (run/walk/snowshoe)
1 Point per 3 miles biked
1 Point per 20 minutes of weight lifting, Pilates, yoga, stretching or abs
1 Point per 15 minutes of low impact cardio (i.e. aerobics, easy biking)
1 Point per 10 minutes of high impact cardio (spin, kickbox, etc)
1 Per day where you reach a minimum of 7 servings of fruits and veggies

I wanted to change them a little to add in swimming etc.  Thought I would start on January 1st and either do it for a month or a couple months.

Anyone interested in joining??

I like it!

Oooh, I keep forgetting and then remembering which makes my day so much better, but I have a date with the lovely Jon Bon Jovi tonight - yay!
I'm taking my husband along this time so I may have to tone it down a notch or two but it will be an excellent night!

SO, SO Jealous!!!!!

I'll be sure to say hi to him for you.

So...  how is Jon doing???  Can I just repeat...  SO, SO jealous!  My evening so not nearly that entertaining...

Jon was AWESOME!!!!
However, I really hate to say it, but Ive seen Bon Jovi 3 times now and I think he is finally starting to feel his age a bit
The set was great, energetic, amazing, but I think he might have been tiring a little bit and I'm sure he was happy to get to bed afterwards.

I swam today.

Yanti will appreciate this part......nearly every flipturn I wound up grabbing the booty of my depigletized forer coach who was swimming in the next lane over.  I was splitting the lane with a breast stroker and my set had a lot of backstroke.  Hard to have a good idea where I was on those turns  Wink

Morning Crushers and congrats one and all on the great weekend workouts

I completed my second ever tri yesterday and while I am very happy with my bike and run I am, as ever, in despair about my swim. I have trained harder this year for the swim but seen zero imrpovement. If I could just come MOP in the swim I would be so happy - in fact if I could just not come last I would be happy! Here are the facts from the race:

swim (750m) - 18.27 (slower than last time even!)
bike (20km, time include T1 and T2) - 39.30
run (5k) - 23.30

Overall - 1hr 21

I should be happy, its 5 minutes faster than my first tri but the swim really marrs the whole experience.

I would love the benefit of everyones advice on how I should just suck it up and swim more to improve. Should I just swim for distance or swim drills or try to swim intervals...? How many times a week do you reckon I need to be swimming to see an improvement?
I am definitely going to add in a weekly open water swim because I went off course a few times so I think more open water swimming will help.

Congrats on the tri. If you ask me, all those times are looking pretty good.

Thanks Paul! Next tri is Jan 16th, same distance, so hopefully Christmas won't take a toll on my training and I might be able to shorten the swim slightly.

How are you, I haven't seen you around for a few days.

Looks like we have a Jan crusher challenge?? I am down for doing this longer than 1 month, but if we do what will we call it? I love the multi-faceted nature of this because it's so flexible and encourages many good habits.

What do you all think of doing it individually (together) instead of team point raking?

This might be a fun one  to open up to others....there may be a lot of newbies in January (just like at the gym) so it would be a fun way to introduce multisport lifestyle and cross training in a way to avoid injury

They're piling a lot of stuff on me at work so I've been pretty busy. I have three projects right now, two of which I should finish this week and the third next week. I haven't been this busy in years. Plus my son is home for the holidays so we've been doing stuff together as a family.

I think it'd be a great thing to do individually and not make teams if its just the Crushers.  If we open it up to the rest of BT we mad need to make teams.

I am so looking forward to the challenge next month that I lost the first half hour of my sleep thinking about potential alterations to the point list...

1 Point per 20 minutes of run/walk/snowshoe
1 Point per 20 minutes of biking
1 Point per 20 minutes of swimming
1 Point per 20 minutes of weight lifting, Pilates, yoga, stretching or abs
1 Point per 20 minutes of general cardio
1 Point per day where you reach a minimum of 7 servings of fruits and veggies

Let me know what you think everyone about the rationale for suggested changes! We need crusher democracy!

I think that we should point running and biking based on time instead of distance because of imperial/metric complications, and it will be more accessible/fun to those people who don't always keep track of distance.

I like someone else's idea (sorry not sure at the moment who because I am in the post screen) to differentiate between high and low impact cardio in terms of time to complete and points... the only issue that comes to mind is simplicity and consistency. In the event that we change run and bike to 20 minutes, it makes sense to me to have a general cardio section with 20 minutes for 1 point.

Anything else anyone wants to add? Remove? Alter? We have 2 weeks to perfect this!

And I like the idea for the challenge next month. I like the simplicity of 1 point for every 20 minutes of exercise. Some could argue that walking might be easier than strength training or something else but I think its all relevant to our activity level. I think we'll be doing whatever is best for our own fitness level. Plus it just makes it a lot easier.
