gotta run - 2010-12-26 5:25 PM Uh oh. I've been on a road trip and missed the MG move. Can I please come back??

depends.

I'm not going to ask the conditions.

ETA: but I do promise to read all the pages I've missed and post my bio tonight.

LOL!  - When I asked the same thing that I missed the MG move as well, only to be confronted in big caps "CLOSED". So I asked, no one said anything so I decided to be rude and just bug in and invite myself. Posted my bio, no one didn't seem to notice....not even Fatty. *hmmm*

Welcome back!

Slightly disappointed that I couldn't do my first out-of-state race and last race of the season.  I'm currently in NJ and am about 45 minutes from NYC.

The dang SNOW got in the way.  It would have been too risky to drive over an hour to the race site, race, then drive home back in the blizzard.   Not worth it, so DNS it is. HOWEVER, I emailed the race director and he said that he will defer my entry next year. So not all is lost. ;-)

I wish I can travel to Knoxville, but not enough money to fly out and to pay for Rev3. :-( You'll gonna have so much fun.

Hugs to you all. I'm going to gather up some snow and eat some tonight.  I love the snow, especially that I can just experience it once a year...unlike it was when I was living in NJ. :-D

SSMinnow - 2010-12-26 7:17 AM Sounds like everyone had a great Christmas and got a few good things to help them progress in the sport.  So far, my gift has been missing the flu that knocked the man down on Christmas Eve.

Good luck to our NE friends....looks like you're in for a doozy of a storm. My BIL and his family are supposed to fly out of NYC tomorrow....maybe not?!?!?!

PS. For those doing their race schedules for '11, consider the REV3 Oly/HIM in Knoxville on 5/15....many of us are meeting up there for another MG experience.

It's very bad weather in NYC and Boston, Boston is worse..  wind gusts of 50+mph and 1-2 ft of snow..  We were supposed to drive to Boston to visit the in laws today and canceled..

The roads are really bad up here.  Probably a good call.  My bro left the Beantown area around 1pm and didn't even get an hr away before having to call for a tow truck to pull his suv back on the road.  He's the most cautious driver I know too.

SSMinnow - 2010-12-26 12:36 PM WOO-HOO!!!  Over 6,000 bike miles in '10!

Nice job!  Talk about inspiring.

Merry belated Christmas everyone.  I've been busy with three days of Christmas celebration and completely pooped.  Luckily, my goal of hitting 100 running miles this month are keeping me going.  I got 9 snowy miles in this morning.

Tri-Santa wasn't good to me this year, despite tri gear as 90% of my Christmas wish list.  I might be one of very few disappointed with getting diamond earrings instead of tri-gear.

Hmmmm, is the giver of said earrings supportive of your tri habit?

Luckily, yes.  Don't get me wrong.  They are beautiful and I am a very lucky lady.  Just not looking forward to spending a couple hundred bucks on winter gear after spending way too much on gifts for the kids.

Yeah, I feel that pain!  The tri habit is an expensive one!

There are a few things I spend $$$$$ on (like Castelli Truly Free bike shorts), but in general I get a lot of my tri stuff from Sierra Trading Post, Campmor and Team Estrogen's Clearance Section.  If you don't know these online retailers check them out!

Christmas was very good for my new found love of this sport.  My wife got me the Garmin cadence sensor and quick release and my inlaws got me gift cards to Dicks so I can get some new running gear.

Now I'm looking for a transition bag that I can carry my pool toys with in the winter and all my gear during the race season.

I will be deferring until 2012. First my PT said "No" and 2nd I have to run the annual meeting of North Carolina Woodworker, Inc. on 5/15. (Darn Events director scheduled the meeting without consulting the rest of the Board of Directors!),

Well had a great Christmas in Denver with my family. For the most part was able to maintain my training program while I was up there with a few tweaks. Thursday I got my run in at lunch before we left for Denver then that night was able to swim at 24hr Fitness. Friday got in my bike ride and then swam that afternoon since everything was closed on Saturday so I had back to back days of swimming could feel it then ran on Saturday Even though it was only a couple of thousand feet higher in altitude I could feel it still was pleased with the time and pace.

They only day I missed was my long bike 25mile since we were traveling today and didn't get back until dark.

Question:
Mondays are my rest days should I try and make up some of those miles on Monday or just maintain it as a rest day?

So anyone here ever diagnosed with high blood pressure?

I have a Dr.'s appointment tomorrow to go get checked out, last few times I went to the minute clinic for shots or whatever they said it was high and I should go get it checked out with my Dr.

Well finally doing that tomorrow.

Problem is the way I see it there isn't anything else I can give up except maybe coffee (does caffine effect BP?).  I don't seem to fit the profile for the self induced high blood pressure type, lots of exercise, I don't eat much red meat, don't drink, smoke, etc.  All I have left is Coffee and a very little bit of salt I put on food.

I've seen BP medicine have odd side-effects on some people and not really interested in dealing with that..

So keep your fingers crossed for me that the minute clinic people don't know how to run those machines.

If you have a scheduled recovery day, recover.  I tend to go back and forth between active recovery and complete do nothing recovery.  Currently doing active recovery which tends to be a 30-45 minute spin on the trainer with almost 0 tension just to get the legs moving.

Our coach always puts on recovery days that they aren't day's off.  Don't eat like a pig, try and get a bit more sleep, rest, etc.

If anyone is interested in info on this race let me know, I did the oly last year.  Pretty cool race, great for families.

I think BT is going to make this a destination race this year, last year they had all the moderators down for the race but didn't publicize it well, I think they are going to make a bigger deal of it for BT.

yep.  the problem might not be what you are doing but rather hereditary.  also, one test at your md's office may not be the best indicator...white coat phenomonon or whatever they call it.  your bp ramps up when you think about it due to the nurse / doc in the room testing you and/or your already thinking about it.  which you are.  if its high tomorrow and your doc says monitor it (machines are like 75 bucks) good.  if doc says you need meds i'd be very leery as there is a lot you can do to lower it IF its you causing it, not your genes or whatever.  edit.... but hopefully he/she says its not an issue.

address it but don't stress it.

Hey Peeps!

A nice, cold (for south Texas), easy Sunday here.  I did run this morning (in upper 20's, sunny but no wind).  It was a good run but my heart rate was elevated for an easy run.  I wondered if cold air could have been an impact.  Also got a short weight session in this morning before the gym got full.

Tony, I have BP issues in my family and my wife's as well.  I agree with John, especially with buying a machine and monitoring over time.  My wife did that before she was put on medication.  Even with her running and such, she  takes the lowest dosage available just to keep it in check.  It is what it is when it comes to genetics.

It's great to see all the new MG members sharing and getting to know them.  This is a great group!

I was looking at my 2010 totals and they pale compare to some on here (6000 miles on the bike!  Wow, Suzy!  Amazing, compared to my 500 or so.)  This was my first full year of tri training, so it will be a benchmark to compare with for the future.

To those that are batten down inside during the blizzard in the northeast, stay warm and safe!

nope, nothing else just go swim.  especially if you're two months into it.  save the money on toys for a lesson or two.

or you could be the typical triathlete and go buy two boards, a pull buoy, two sets of fins, 8 sets of paddles, 15 swim caps (purchase these cuz the ones you get at a race are not cool unless its an ironman).   and make sure you announce loud and clear at the beginning and after every 100 that something along the lines of "i was supposed to go 4500 today but i can only get in 4250 because i got a flat on my 60 mile ride and my garmin 310 took so long to grab a sat on my 6.234533211223445  mile transition run that i had to run in zone 3 for the last 6 minutes which led to an improper cool down."

;-)   just swim.  and enjoy it.  the toys will come.  edit..  AND USE YOUR LOGS!!!!!!  please.

Merry Christmas, all!  Santa was good here.....everyone seems happy.   I didn't get my top choices (Sharks jersey, new nano) so I hit the mall today and just finished syncing my new fuschia nano.  Much happier mommy here.

Did 12 with some hills this morning.....felt pretty good!

Heading out early to ski for the next few days.....stay safe, all!!

Hi - thanks for all of the Happy Birthday wishes.  We had a nice day chilling and dropped the kids w/ the parents long enough for a short run in the freezing cold.  I am so over this winter already.  Counting down the days to Disney.  I sure hope the weather is warmer there.  :-)
