Subject: RE: May Flowers ChallengeCrushers - I bought rose bushes today. 2 of them. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous big red buds, bred for this climate, guaranteed to have 4-5 blooms at any given time over the summer. They are called "Hope For Humanity Roses" as 100% of the proceeds goes to local homelessness-related charities. I love roses, and it's for a good cause. But ... I don't have a garden. I have a blank clay tablet that has not yet been developed. I guess I'd better get on with building the flowerbed along the south end of the fence, so my beautiful new roses have a home too. ;-) It's worth commenting - the house I lived in in Victoria had a 60+-yr-old 3000-sq ft garden in a temperate wet humid NW climate. Trees and shrubs and bushes and flowers everywhere. When I moved in I thought I'd love it. Turns out I hated it. Now I'm back in the suburbs in an arid desert-like northern climate with a postage-stamp yard, and happier than I ever knew I could be. Life is funny, ain't it. My biggest lesson from that monstrosity of a yard: Less Is More. |
