Closed the month strong yesterday with a 4.5 mile run with 4 x 1'15" @ R pace outdoors, followed by some strength and core work.  Started March with a bang with a strength session at 6 AM then a 90'-ish outdoor bike ride here.  Like 80 degrees out so I was a sweaty mess (and covered in pollen).  Run and swim planned for tomorrow.

@Nicole, Maybe it's like when kindergarteners like each other the little boy will pull the girls pigtails looking for attention, and the guy is being a douche because he likes you? I'm with Nathalie, I would have left. Life's too short for you to have to deal with that sort of stuff.

@Nathalie and Nicole. Well done on cutting back on the booze.

@Gretchen, Thats a good solid month. Especially with the pool closed for a lot of it. No advice for the dodgy air quality, other than indoor training with the AC and hopefully air purifier going full blast.

@Nathalie, good job on a solid month for you too.

For myself,

Swim: 0. Pool closed the whole month due to flooding.
Bike: x7, 4:35, 167km. All on zwift. (We all count treadmill miles, so I count zwift ones too )
Run: x13, 10:30, 77km
Strength/Mobility, 15 minutes.

Safe to say, not my best month. A bit of sulking after withdrawing from the 70.3 (even though I agree it was the right call) a bot of real life getting in the way, and some lazyness.

March will be better.

I hope you can take this in the spirit it is intended. The trope that men/boys do things like this because they like/love a woman is one of the most dangerous attitudes in society. It conditions women, often from a young age, that abusive and inappropriate behavior is a sign of acceptance and love. This has knock-on effects. Why don't women leave abusive relationships? Because they've been taught to see it as the man's way of showing he loves her. It certainly is not, but this pervasive belief kills thousands of women every year.

@Nicole-I don't know what I can do from where, but whatever I can do to support you/help, I will. Please feel free to pm me if you need something.

90' interval ride today (4x6' at Z3 with 3' Z1 breaks, surrounded by Z2/1 warmup and cool down) in the entryway to my apartment, with the a/c blasting. Yesterday I finally turned on the A/C fans to try to filter the air a bit. Not sure it worked, but today the air quality outside is a bit better. I could at least see buildings across the Nile! Later this afternoon I'll do a strength training session, or maybe a few of the body weight ones throughout the day in my office.

Nice February, everyone...remember only 28 days so we have a built-in excuse for our lousy totals.  Mine were:

Swim:    4.25 hours, 10,800 yards (a little under target)
Bike:       ~11 hours, 210 miles (thumbs up)
Run:       5.75 hours, 32 miles (thumbs up)
Walk:      1.5 hours, ~ 5 miles (add-on to running to get some foot mileage)
Strength:   ~ 10 hours (solid)

@Andrew:  of course Zwift miles count!  I'm actually pretty close in pacing outdoors to Zwift so I think it's directionally accurate.

@Nicole and Nathalie:  good job keeping up the damp January; I've fallen off a bit here in my beach vibe...one of the local breweries was giving away hazy IPAs down at the beachfront grill here so of course I had to oblige (didn't want to be rude and all)

Weeked is almost here, and I just noticed it's 10 days until my super sprint in Florida.  It's been super warm there (high 80s) for a couple of weeks now so I doubt the wetsuit I brought will be used unless I jump in the ocean here (which is about 65-ish now, so bathtub water for Nathalie).  I also can't find my elastic race belt so I'll have order a new one.

45’ Z1 run followed by a 2500yd swim this morning. Both were good. I scheduled myself a sports massage for tomorrow after my 2:15 ride. It will be my first (professional) massage, so if there are any unwritten rules I should know, hit me with them!

How was the massage Gretchen?
Nice month Mike

Since Zwift miles counts, I tried to see how many I had last month but the only thing I could find is my total since I started on Zwift. (2500km)

Change of plan this weekend, can’t train tomorrow (unless I get up early and if I was Gretchen or any one of you it wouldn’t be a problem but I am me) because I am going to take part in a songwriting workshop with my hubby (guitarist and main songwriter in our band). I have so far written one song and I am hoping to learn things to help me write more.
So the long run is today instead (14k on the menu) and I will bike on Tuesday (I will get up early for that but it’s not Sunday so that’s OK) but it will not be as long as a Sunday ride.

Woke up with a headache and light nausea again this morning, as I often do on Saturdays. Before I went dry/damp I blamed it on the couple of glasses of wine I used to drink on Friday nights but now, I don’t know know…
Allergic to Saturdays?

Allergic to Saturdays?!? Say it ain’t so!!

Massage is later this afternoon. I will report back afterwards. It is a real leap out of my comfort zone. I don’t generally like being touched by anyone but close friends and family.

2:15 ride today on the balcony. It appears my alley neighbors forget their curtains are open occasionally! Had I wanted it, there was quite a show to watch this morning…ummm…new triathlons experiences every day!

Massage was wonderful, although how much of a “sports massage” it was is debatable. Also…I am ticklish.

70’ Z2 run, followed by an easy 1500yd swim this morning. Later this afternoon, I’ll do some strength training. Everything is stacked up at the beginning of the week to allow for an easy day on Thursday, before my 10k “marathon” on Friday. I picked up my race packet on Friday afternoon one of the swag items was a can of chili flavored fava beans…by far the weirdest swag I’ve ever gotten.

Yes, that's some intesting SWAG.  LOL

Had a rough couple of days here - Friday I was just totally wiped out, no energy at all so took an unplanned day off.  Yesterday was better but I'm just really sore all over, not like sick/achy just body.  Ugh.  I slept like 10 hours last night so hopefully today will shake that off.

Guess I'll consider this tapering.

@Mike—sorry to hear you’re not feeling great. Hope a hole of days of rest help!!

Serious multi-tasking here this morning. I got up and did a run and a swim while making bread. Get bread out of fridge (mixed up yesterday), leave to rise while I run 33’ intervals. Then come back, shape bread and leave to proof while I go swim 1500yds. Come home, shower, breakfast, bake, cool and I’m still out the door and on my way to the office at 8:30.

Later today I’ll actually do the strength training that I thought was scheduled for yesterday. it wasn’t. It is scheduled for today.

@Mike, Hope you're recovering from your enforced 'taper' Not good timing at all.

@Gretchen, Mrs consistency as always. How's the air quality improving? Zero visibility smog is not what you want for a 10k marathon

@Nathalie, If you go to your profile on the zwift companion app you can select all time miles, last 30 days or last 7 days. Not sure if you use strava but if you've synced zwift with that it keeps track easily. Apparently I've spent about 9 and a half days zwifting, and burned off 379 slices of pizza. Not sure if that is peperoni or margarita pizza tho... I need to know.

@Me. 3 rides, 2 runs 4 hours total again last week. So consistent week to week, although not consistent at the volume or frequency I'd like. After a wet horrible summer, Ironman NZ had a perfect weather day. I'm not jealous at all to have missed out. (Even though I know it was the right call) Next year I turn 40, IMNZ facebook tells me 2024 is the 40th anniversary of Ironman NZ... I am on the verge of making a really terrible decision.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

@Andrew—DDOOOOO IIIIITTTTT!!!! Really terrible decisions are our specialty here!!

I’m taking an unscheduled rest day. My right ankle tendinitis is playing up, so I’m hoping I can tame it a bit with an extra rest day. Fingers crossed it feels better by Friday!!

Mike, hope it’s just your body needing a rest (well done for listening) and not a nasty bug. How are you feeling now?

Gretchen, good job on the Swim Bake Run triathlon. Should be a thing.

Andrew I feel for you, even though it was the right think to do, as we (and more importanly you) all agreed.
Bad decision? If you’re thinking what I am thinking, sounds like a great idea. (For you )

I deleted the Zwift companion app, didn’t see the use for it. I am on strava though. Not looking at it much but it’s recording everything I do. Not the Zwift miles though, I just checked. I don’t care tbh.

Managed a quick ride after my day of writing songs on Sunday (that was fun) and another one yesterday so no need to get up early today. Yeah!
I have too many hobbies to be any good at any of them which is frustrating at times. I’d love to be able to work more on playing and writing music but that doesn’t burn any calories so I choose training over music 90% of the time.

Golf season has not even started yet (although when it does the hockey will be almost over)

Snow storm here today, which will be followed by a week of colder temperatures. That’s delaying the opening of my big pool.

Have a nice week!

Hi all, happy Tuesday!
I've fallen out of my stride a bit after a weekend of too much fun and zero productivity. I'm also struggling with my weight right now, so back to focusing on diet. I want to do more strength stuff too. My house is currently a mess and my email is out of control so working to clean those things up so I can focus on me again. I need to get a house cleaner...

Gretchen, glad the massage was nice! And fava beans?!
Mike, fun on vacation (and free IPAs!) Is totally allowed.
Nat, I love the different fun activities you do. Tell us more about the songwriting workshop!
Andrew, I second what Nat said (do ittttt!)

Add a +1 to the terrible decision crowd, Andrew!

I seem to have shaken off my malaise over the weekend and took a scheduled day off yesterday and got a message (seems to be the trend around here).  My back has been bothering me pretty good the past few days but getting better so still on track to race Sunday.  I have no idea how to pace this thing (400 meter swim, 8 mile bike, 5K run) besides just redline until I can't.

Haha, Nobody in the world is as supportive of triathlon goals and achievements than a group of people you've never met in real life on the internet.

Now I've got your approval, I need to find the opportune moment to discuss with Mrs Bullfrog. It's a big commitment for me and the family. This could take some serious negotiation.

Andrew, so you mean ”a bunch of people I’ve never met think I should do it” is not a clinching argument? Good luck with the negociations.

Sorry work and house work are getting in the way of training Nicole but too much fun sounds like fun. If you can afford it, yes, get a cleaner, life is too short to clean the house.

Songwriting workshop was fun, got to write songs from scratch in half an hour to one hour with one or 2 total strangers and then perform them in front of the group. Talk about venturing outside of your comfort zone!
Wrote a ”punkish” song called rather dead than bread which could be a hit

Rest day yesterday and intervals with club tonight. Happy Wednesday BDASses!

It is almost like you guys know me!

But...for real...an entire day off. I even took a cab to the office and home instead of walking the km to the metro stop. Real rest day. It didn't help...ankle/leg still feels off. 25 straight days is apparently too much--I should have known better.

@Mike--good to hear you're feeling better!

@Andrew--if it helps, you can tell your wife the doctor ordered it (I am, technically, a doctor--not of anything really useful if you're sick, but use it if ya need it!... :D)

60' Z1 ride (BORING) and 1750yds in the pool this morning before work. Later will be some strength training, although I've already done a couple of sets of body weight stuff while waiting for things to happen at work (squats while the kettle boils? why not?!?!).

Hi, all.  You OCD nuts would have been proud of me yesterday.  We have a 20 yard indoor pool here, so I swam exactly 1500 yards by stopping at the other end of the pool and walking back after my cool down set.
