lmscozz - 2011-06-06 3:53 PM Sorry about the calf.

I'm going to try and get my son to make some honey badger signs for us. I think a smile and chuckle will be welcome and perhaps necessary from time to time.

There is a booth at the expo where they supply the blank sign boards, pens etc. for spectators to make  signs for their runners. The folks hosting the booth then drive the course and place the signs out along the course.  As I recall, out along lake drive past the Golf Course (On the grassy strip along the road) is where thousands of these things get posted.

I think the idea is that this is an alternative to street chalk.

Just print off a HUGE honey badger picture and glue it on the board!!!

That's the idea

I think I get in on Wednesday and will prolly be hitting the water on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for some sort of a swim. My house is only about a mile from the expo so it makes it pretty easy. Also planning on getting in a lap of the run course on Thursday if anyone is interested. (Nice and easy pace)

I will be at the Moose at 8:00AM for the practice swims.

I'd be game for that run my man. Not sure the Slayer can hang with the waterdog66's easy pace but will give it a go. PM me particulars.

Of note, I will probably swim Saturday too, but didnt want to commit to 8am.

Message On the way.  As for pace, we are going to be 3 days out from an Ironman. The pace will be very pedestrian. I think I have some strides planned for that run but I can do them when we get back.

Anyone else is very welcome to join us.

Hey everyone!  Haven't posted here in a long while but I've been following closely the discussion.  I've got a  couple of questions for the IMCdA veterans.  The Athlete's guide mentions that there will be floor pumps available in tradition on race morning.  Does that mean that there will be one or two pumps and people will be street fighting over those?  Like most of you I'm flying in and I'd rather not bring my floor pump with me...

Second question: the guide also says that bike shoes can be either kept in the bike bag or left clipped to the bike.  If I recall correctly, a long time back someone mentioned that jump-on-bike mounts are forbidden at IMCDA.  Now the guide seems to contradict that.  Have the rules changed since last year?

Thanks!

you know you're training for an Ironman when...

10). You take a very deep interest in weather predictions for home, training and race destinations
9). You pat yourself on the back for dropping another cyclist on the path (A Surfer on a beach Cruiser)
8). At Master's Swim, you start throwing elbows at your lane mates trying to circle swim with you
7). You become narcoleptic when you sit on your couch
6). You go out to eat and after horking down your dinner, you start foraging from other guests plates
5). A whole season of your favorite TV show has passed and the DVR is out of space
4). You are putting more miles on the bike than your car
3). Your co-workers have made your daily workouts a company wide running joke.
2). You come to work looking like you are wearing your father's clothes
1). Someone you have not seen in a while asks if you have been sick (In hushed tones)

Thought I'd throw this out again...I'll give a tour of the bike course either Thursday or Friday afternoon to anyone who's interested.  I can fit 4 in my car and if there are more who want to follow in another vehicle that's cool too.  Anyone interested PM me.

I plan to get in on Wednesday but am staying with a friend about 15min from Coeur d'Alene. I will try and make the swim times but depends on family and how I handled the jet lag (but 10 days later so should be fine). I will try and get some riding in on the course as well and have some runs planned. Sure this will develop as we get closer to race day and people's plans firm up. Keep me posted everyone on any rides or runs. Slayer/Waterdog, I'd be happy to join you guys for a casual cruise around part of the run course. My tentative week looks like this:

Thursday - 30' swim / bike - may ride the hills section

Friday - 30' swim / 30' easy run

Saturday - 20' swim / 15' easy bike

All of this is flexible right now if anyone is running or biking and looking for company.

There will be bike support in the transition area on race day and pumps are at a premium but not as much as the porto(s).

I did a Flying Mount/Dismount @ CdA in 2008 and no one bothered me about it. I volunteered at IMAZ in 2008 as a bike handler and about half the field did flying mounts/dismounts and we all went along with it. I did the same @ IMAZ in 2009 without issue.

My plan is to do Flying Mount/Dismount this year also.

I had heard reference to prohibitions about this practice from a long time ago, but I think it is no longer true.

Chomping at the bit and hard time focusing on work... Anyone else feel that way?!

To make things worse I pulled a calf muscle running up the boat ramp after a cold water swim (how lame is that!) tri relay, and now I can't run for a few days (hopefully! - this ol lady don't heal like she used to!)  Everyone stay healthy and minimize as much risk of injury as possible.  It made me crazy and emotional being this close to the game!  Thank goodness for the bike!

Can't wait to meet the BT athletes that have inspired, motivated an helped train me though out this journey!  You guys ROCK!

Get well and stretch the calf like 6x a day.  Lots of heat/ice.  I hurt my back on Sunday when doing 20+ honey-to-do items.  It's not serious, but it hurts.  Ugh!!

Thanks all for the positive thoughts and advice.  I am doing heat, stretch, ice, arnica, advil, compression (and prayer) 3-4 times a day.

Hope your back stays in check as well.  I'd lay off honey do's until after CDA.  And NO fancy "positions" until this is all over either - LOL!

Awesome!  I'll be flying on/off the bike too then, hopefully without crashing into the ground Laughing

Thanks!

Ill do a quick ride, maybe 15-30 minutes with some up/downs. Really more to make sure all gears are good instead of touring the course. Ill drive a loop instead to see what I am getting into.

Still up for a Swim/Run on Friday morning. Give me a time and place and I will be there.

It was prohibited for age-groupers last year.  I don't recall seeing anyone doing it but obviously I was in the race so I only saw a handful of people who were near me after the swim.

Feeling like a broken record here, but I think I hurt myself again.  I ran on Sunday and felt great, but later that night I noticed my knee was all swollen.  Funny thing is, it didn't hurt at all, just looked puffy.  I iced it, took ibuprofen, and elevated my legs while I slept.  Repeated all steps yesterday.  It looks almost normal now, but I'm nervous about running on it again.

Anyone ever experience this before?

Happens to me all the time, where I think I have an injury but really just need a few days of rest. Wait till you feel normal again, then go out for an easy run. At the first sign of pain/discomfort, call it quits. The hay is in the barn as far as CdA goes, no sense getting injured this late in the game.

You are doing the right thing: RICE and take it easy.

Yikes, be careful.  Knees/ankles/calfs/quads are super important at this point.  My back is ok now so just a quick scare for me.

I was tweeting back and forth with PhatKnot and another guy about CdA, and mentioned I might cry from laughing from at all the Honey Badger stuff...to which PhatKnot says I can't cry, but then gives in and says it's okay if it's from laughter.  Well, apparently using the term "Honey Badger" got picked up by the Honey Badger, cause I got this tweet back

Honey Badger : Don't care.

yeah i think i was wrong about it initially. i defined when its ok to cry during Ironman. Its ok to cry when laughing or when being thankful or appreciative, even when thinking about a loved one. however, its not ok to cry like a baby on the side of the road with a wet diaper.

and kstater39, it must be catching here in Ga. honey badger just wipes his rear with dry pointy southern magnolia leaves after a deposit during a long run when there are no toilets. i did it using the rounded side and it wasnt too bad!
