Christina, garlic and honey?  Together?  I need some explanation here.

Both garlic and honey have claims to antiviral and antibacterial properties.  Don't worry the honey does a great job of masking the raw garlic.

And yeah, Phelps is hardly the picture of the perfect Olympian. Nor is Lochte, for that matter. Nathan Adrian, on the other hand... I think I need his poster on my bedroom wall. (Truth: Rowdy Gaines and Matt Biondi posters graced my freshman dorm room.)

Seriously? He's 23. You could be his grandma.

Not the pics, this. Guess how old Kacie is?

edit cuz I terp'd it.

For the record, she is two months older than him.

Plus John and I are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY younget than Kyla!

Curious: Is it usual for a resting heart rate to be the same first thing in the morning as it is about 1-2 minutes after you lie down at night? Sometimes my RHR is actually lower at night -- I take it after I get into bed, recline, and relax for a minute or two. Morning is it the same, or up to 2-3 beats higher. Why? I always thought morning HR was when it was at its lowest?

Hi Kyla!

First: Are you three done going back and forth?  It was hurting my little brain!  Who is Kacie?

Second:  Curious why you take it at night and morning?  I would think the night time reading would be more variable depending upon what you do right before reclining...Wink

I think you are right, morning HR should be lowest, but oddly sometimes when I am in the car driving to where I start my run...I look down and my Garmin has me up to 5-10 bpm lower than morning rHR.  Scary low...like in the 20's!

But I don't read too much into that because my heart rate strap reading seems to always be higher than my wrist pulse reading by about that margin.  weird, huh?  My rHR seems to be directly tied to hydration and number of sleep hours.

Anyone getting less sleep due to these crazy Olympics???  So glad I am not trying to train for an IM!

Cuz I usually remember at night... and have started taking it just for grins. Then usually when I have taken it at night, I'm more likely to remember in the morning, so then I have a comparison. And yes, I know what happens prior to reclining will affect it, duh!! I figure the HR is related to hydration and rest and sleep and recovery and everything, so I've tried to start tracking it just a little. Not doing much with it, of course, it is what it is.

And yes, the Olympics are wreaking havoc on my sleep schedule. Fortunately the kids like to watch the next day, so if I get tired I can turn off the TV, avoid news and FB, and then catch up in the afternoons with them. Fun!!!

Off to see my diva perform in a musical -- the grand finale of her two-week drama camp. Can't wait!!!

Seems I should not be playing around with these long distance events, instead I should race the women's 100. I can't believe the guts on these chicks? Love it!!!!

what a finish to the ladies race. Paula was horrible. Groff/Gruff almost got there.

Got the 180k ride in today. Off to the cabin for a few days! Peace out!

From our conversation the other day about the shooting events, went skeet shooting for the first time today, moves much faster in person than watching on TV.

Once I figured out shooting a shotgun isn't the same as a rifle I didn't do too bad.

If you enjoyed it, try sporting clays next. That's a freakin' blast.... No pun intended.

They have a smaller sporting clays course there, but not the full thing, I believe.

Pretty funny, I went through 3 rounds before I realized I should have both eyes open, instead of one as if I was shooting at a stationary target with a rifle (never shot a shotgun until today).  Went from hitting 4-5 to 19-20 on my last round.

I think the Men's basketball is ridiculous. Boycott. Women's heptathlon gold medalist Jessica Ennis has abs to die for!!! Gorgeous, humble and an amazing athlete. More track and field! Congrats to Mo Farah and Galen Rupp.

Did it seem like they completey blew over Galen's accomplishment to medal in this event?   Also, did you see his knee was shreaded from spikes from another runner?  Awesome race, my favorite so far.

Bummer.  I got to see the women's triathlon live (started at 6pm here) and I can watch the entire women's marathon and the women's 10,000 meter 2 or 3 times (because there were 3 Japanese girls running and the media believed one of them would medal),  but there is zero coverage of the men's 10,000 meter.    There was also zero coverage of the heptathlon.  Time to check out youtube.

My favorite race so far too! So exciting to watch and I love how happy they were for the other to medal.

I ended up racing today, a sprint. I had done this race last year so wanted to see how I improved. I ended up taking  7th female, which I am super excited about! And I knocked 6 minutes off of my time, half of which was on the swim, haha. And my brother came and he had never seen me race before, so that was cool. But I was a total bonehead! I saw my brother just laughing his head off and I didn't think anything about it at the time, but after I finished he told me that I had my bike helmet on backward! ooooooooooooooooooops.

I watched the 100m final at breakfast today live which was great, Bolt's an amazing athlete, he just looks so much faster at the end than anyone else. Apparently he started out as a fast bowler in cricket and someone spotted him doing his run up and re-directed him to athletics.

Imagine standing there waiting to bat and seeing him running at you!

Australia is having a nightmare, I think we've got 20 medals but most are silver and one one gold. On the other hand Great Britain is going great. I've dual nationality but I don't really feel that connected to the UK anymore so it's sad seeing how all the Aussie athletes have struggled.
