Really, now that has me curious. Was it a sweet treat? Or a happy hour beverage? I wonder if they serve that in Canada?

Linda-  doesn't it sound good?  I had a watermelon basil-ade recently and it was so refreshing!

I think every hour is happy hour while on vacation!!!  Happy vacation, John!

I can honestly say I have never heard of watermelon gazpacho.

But you want some poutine with that?

Watermelon gazpacho sounds interesting.   I had to look up "poutine" - looks like Canada's version of cheese fries.   At least they're real potatoes and the cheese curds are probably real.  I would give it a try at least once.

Okay Gang,  I think the SSMinnow is off on some crazy Big Day, so she left it to me to ask the Wednesday question, who is donning a race suit, wheels or fancy running shoes (or just dragging themselves to a start line in cut-offs and a t-shirt?) this weekend!??!

For those of us not racing, tell us your best childhood olympic memory!

I've always loved all Olympics. Who can forget the Nadia games, of course... Those were so magical. 1984 was a year that I followed closely... and Rowdy Gaines and Matt Biondi were two very large posters that hung on my freshman dorm-room wall. I had a thing for Rick Carey, too. This year, it's all about Nathan Adrian, of course. I may need to get a poster of him for my daughter's room, ha!!!

I'm piggy-backing off of Kyla!!! Wink

My first/fav memory was Mary-Lou Retton. I remember staying at my grandma's house while I was attending a hockey school, and coming home and watch gymnastics. I had a huge crush on Mary-Lou.

Wait.  Can I piggy back you???  Poor Kyla, having to hold up the both of us!  I loved Nadia's floor routine as an 11 year old, I remember her awesome gracefulness and athleticism.  I loved Dwight Stone in the high jump as my dad was a high jumper.  I set up foam cushions and a high bar in our backyard and would practice the Fosbury Flop for hours on end.

1984, Mary Lou Retton nailing that perfect 10 on the vault was riveting and my whole family stood up in the living room and screamed when she stuck the landing!!!!

It s a cold soup usually made with cucumber instead of watermelon. One of my favorite things to eat. My mom used to make the best gazpacho. Google a recipe and give it a shot. Pretty healthy too.

Good luck racing peeps. Nada here.... But I do need to start training again! On the plane now heading home. Had a great week in NYC with the family. Hit up some museums, Central Park and Brox Zoo with my sisters and there kiddos, toy stores and lots of hot dogs! Got a good pic of a gorilla taking a dump. Then the polar bear at the Bronx zoo was playing with a ball and a big crowd gathered around. Then he got out and took a dump I started cheering then everyone joined in. It was awesome!

. men's hockey winning the gold. Jim Craig looking for his father. Mary Lou was cool too. Tonya freakin Harding... That train wreck is still fun to watch. Nancy Kerrigan was a jacka$$ but didn't deserve that. Debbie Thomas was a hottie. So was Janet evans. I'd probably still hit it. I still love watching the Russians get beat at anything. I've heard that song probably a thousand times and it still makes me want to run through a wall or something.

No races here.  I am finishing up my biggest week - got in a 20km run on Sunday and did 135km on the bike yesterday.  My legs are sore this morning.

The names I remember from Olympics are Mark Spitz, Olga Korbut, Frank Shorter, Dan Gable.....a few years earlier than those who have replied so far.

Hi Gang!  One day down and one day to go!!!! We're having some unpredicatable weather in these parts so I my BIG DAY was turned a bit upside down.  Keeping my fingers crossed weather is good enough tomorrow to get it in as planned.

Favorite Olympic moments have to include Mark Spitz, Greg Louganas (sp?) and Mary Lou Retton.  I used to watch the Olys and wonder if it was too late for me to start training to be a star. Tongue out  What a dork.

We must be the same era! My parents have a photo somewhere of me wearing "Mark Spitz stars and stripes speedo's", I think I was about 7. My sister was a huge Olga Corbett fan!

That just reminded me of that skit on SNL at the 'Steroid Olympics" when that russian weightlifter ripped his arms off.

No racing here.  Just plenty of mental training, aka freaking out.

Most of my favorite childhood olympic memories are mostly from winter sports; torvil and dean, scott hamilton, bill johnson, picabo street but Mary Lou Retton is definitely there too.

Serious question alert.  Well, maybe not so serious but I need some ideas on how to carry my crap on the bike. My current bento was a last minute purchase pre-HIM last summer and I hate it.  It's flimsy and cumbersome. But maybe I don't need a bento box.  This is what I have; extra tube and levers currently tucked under my seat, small pump (never used a O2 cartridge before and likely to pull a "muppet") currently attached to my downtube, and then small things planned such as advil, immodium, pretzel M&Ms, single use Chamois buttr which I could just throw in my shirt pocket.  What am I missing?  What do you pack for the IM bike?

Tums have become my new friend for long races. I make sure to stash a few everywhere -- bento, transitions, special needs, etc. Nutrition? I think I always carried some extra powder, but truthfully I hated my drinks after awhile so also made sure I could tolerate on-course stuff so I could get some variety. Small tube of sunscreen?
