OMG - How awesome would it be if we could get temporary tattoos with the HB? Anyone know where to make those?

Just get the temporary tattoo paper and load it into your favorite InkJet:

I think I paid $300 to ship from Michigan and then the $35 for a  gear bag. IMO it is totally worth it especially seeing we are staying a week after and now I won't be lugging my bike and crap around the great northwest for a week.

Any word on water temps?  Was looking at 10 day forecasts for CDA area and it looks bit on cold side (highs of mid to high 60's and lows in high 40's to low 50's).  Think that will be a sweet break from the <95deg I've been dealing with in the SE for the last two weeks or so.

Last long run last night: 16 miles in a bit less than 2:30. Pretty comfortable the whole way, especially considering temps in CdA are going to be about 10 deg less than here in GA. I am starting to feel more confident in my training and ready for race day.

Last long day is going to be a 100/5 brick this Saturday.

I already have HTFU on my rear end...(actually this is a pic of my wife's but same kit)

Hmm.. maybe HTFU = Honeybadger T. F. U.  gonna have to think about that one...

Water temp. as reported in the paper have been fluctuating 51-53. Not really going up much.

Swam 1.2 miles yesterday and it didn't feel that bad.

Good article:

IRONMAN COUER D'ALENE 2011

2,750 people registered for this race....yikes!

Is that a bigger field than last year?  Seems like a lot of people swimming at the same time.

Also wondering about the bike for us slow swimmers.

I think we in the southeast may need to accept that we will be in heaven on the bike and the run.  However, we may not remember the swim due to shock and confusion over a 40 to 50 degree change in our acclimated temperature.  Hopefully the shock will lend itself to a fast swim time.  Thank goodness badgers do not have the worry emotion only the htfu emotion!!!

My thoughts exactly.  I ran last night at 10:30PM and it was still 87F.  Gonna LOVE those temp for the bike and run.  Trying to conjure the HB spirit for that swim however (brrrr)

the one piece of equipment I do not own is a good light breathable cycling rain jacket.  What is the opinion of the group.  Rain and 60 degrees on the bike - need a rain jacket?  Might not be a bad thing to have in a special needs bag.   Thinking outloud here - but may not want to stick an expensive jacket in the sp. nneds bag uh.  Would love to know what you Northwesternes have and enjoy as far as a good cycling jacket anyway.  Thanks everyone.  And I know, I know a HB don't give a sh*^ about rain haha.

That sounds good to me.....just a few degrees colder than what it is in the bay here, and I was really quite comfortable in my 4000 yard swim last weekend.  Any warmer from here on out is just gravy IMO.

Funny how every single moment of training has my mind reeling with thoughts of how I'm going to race on the 26th.   No negative thoughts yet, but Im trying not to be too cocky either.

What I'm really happy about is the fact that my dad, who is doing the race as well, finally went to a sports doc/chiro and got some relief from the lower back pain he'd been suffering from the last month or so.   One visit and he's feeling way better, and the doc is confident hell be pain free by race day.

My guess is those of you who have been training in actual hot temperatures will feel pretty darn chilly if it's 60 degrees on the bike, especially if it's raining.  I would think you would be looking for extra layers or a jacket.  Around here, you can find fairly inexpensive, light jackets that are fairly inexpensive.  The down side is you can be creating a bit of a parachute if it's not form fitting.  Of course, the form fitting stuff is more expensive.  Maybe a base layer long sleeve shirt that is form fitting that you could slide over your tri top and discard once you warm up?  Those are definitely inexpensive.  You might try rei.com to see if you can find something that works.

For those of us in the PNW, however, that will actually be warmer than we're used to this year. If that's the weather, I will likely just go with arm warmers and maybe an extra shirt layer if it's raining.

Ok, I just have to say you all are a lot of fun.  As a group, you have a good sense of humor about this whole adventure, tons of good advice, and a good balance of normal life and triathlon.  And this Honey Badger stuff is killin' me! That's just funny, funny, funny.  I wonder how many people will be watching or participating in the race this year wondering what the heck is up with all the Honey Badger stuff. I had to explain it all to my wife and show the video to her so she wouldn't be confused.

A tip o' me cap to you CDA thread peeps.

That's registered participants.  There are always a few hundred who don't make it to the start line, and a handful more who don't finish the swim.  Bike is crowded for the first 20 miles if you're MOP but it starts to open up as you get into Hayden.  You'll see packs of people grinding up hills but the refs turn a blind eye to the drafting rule when you're doing 5mph.

Vive Le Peleton!!!

Just be careful you don't burn up trying to stay way from these packs of riders. At IMAZ, I ended up playing tag with a group of at least 100 riders and I burned up a lot of extra energy. I would work like crazy to pass them in the wind on the uphill, only to get passed by them on the downhill leg.

The real payoff was riding through the hot zone for the last time and seeing almost the entire group standing in the penalty tent all holding stopwatches.

CdA has historically been less of a problem because it is not as flat as IMAZ and the hills tend to break things up. If the course is packed, that might not be so true anymore.

I saw a few single drafting violations last year, but I didn't see any trains at all.  The short frequent hills really do serve to break those up, which is nice.

Me too. The ocean temps are not much higher here in SD and it has actually dropped a bit over the last couple of weeks.

Seems like great swimming as long as the wind does not pick up too much. Lake CdA has enough fetch to make an onshore wind fairly textured.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome.   I grew up watching him do road races and sprints/olympics back in the 80's.   It wasn't till 09 when my younger brother did AZ that my dad got interested again.  He and my brother did St George last year, but he was coming off too little training due to surgery on his achillies 4 months out.   He finished, but he was looking for retribution.   It was on my way home from Utah after cheering them on that I decided to get involved.   Next thing I know we've signed up for both CdA and AZ.  All 3 of us will be racing in Tempe.
